It’s ‘Grow, Sew and Show It In 2016’ Fair time 2016 is fast approaching in Owatonna! The 2016 Steele County Free Fair runs August 16-21. Thousands from all over southern Minnesota and Northern Iowa will attend M i n n e s o t a’s biggest county fair. Admission to the fair is free. Todd Hale There are over 7,000 free exhibits including 2000 animals, the FFA Children’s Barnyard, the Community Bank/R & K Electric Petting Zoo, the Izaak Walton wild game and fish display, free entertainment on four outdoor stages and in the beer garden, 300 indoor commercial exhibits and over 200 outdoor vendors including 100 food stands. See the Buxton World Adventure Mounted Exhibit and fish native to Minnesota in the Izaak Walton building. They will issue free coloring books, offer special membership rates for a year and will have complimentary copies of the national newsletter. Mega Ride ticket The midway Mega-Ride ticket is $49.00 which entitles the holder to unlimited midway rides every day of the fair. The tickets are only available at Hy-Vee in Owatonna until Tuesday at 5:00 p.m. Mega-Ride tickets go on sale July 15.
For the kids Kid’s Days will be featured on Wednesday and Friday of fair week. Activities begin with a free kid’s show in Fair Square Park at 11:00 a.m. Our fair friend, Ronald McDonald, will be featured in the Wednesday show along with future cheerleaders from Owatonna Cheer. Friday’s show will feature Enticing Entertainment plus a visit with reptiles and snakes from Rad Zoo in Owatonna. On both days a $20.00 pass will entitle kids to unlimited rides from noon to 5:00.
Child ID tags Parents, daycare providers etc. can pick up free child ID tags at the Sheriff ’s office in the Muckle Building on the fairgrounds. In the event a child gets separated from you, the I.D. tags are invaluable to enable child and adult to get back together again. It’s a safeguard while you attend the fair with youngsters.

For the senior fairgoers Senior citizens aren’t forgotten at the SCFF. Thursday is U.S. Bank Senior Day. All seniors 62 and over coming to the fair prior to noon that day can park free in the general parking lot on the ball diamonds. Shuttle service will be available
from the parking lot to the west side of the fairgrounds. The day will feature great entertainment that seniors will enjoy beginning with a performance by the SeniorPlace Golden Tones at noon. They will be honored by the Steele County Exchange Club and the SCFF on Thursday night, August 18 at 6:30 p.m. in Fair Square Park.

Barb’s volunteer work centers around the Ellendale Area Heritage Society. She has served as president of the organization since 1989. Tickets to the Midway
The Goldstar Midway will open a ticket booth for redemption of Mega-Ride tickets for wrist bands at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 16. There will also be a separate ticket booth open for the Tuesday night $2.00 ride tickets.
Information stations There will be two information stations for the convenience of fairgoers during the Steele County Free Fair. They will be open daily from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on the east side of the fairgrounds and at the north end of the fair midway.
Wheelchair/scooter rentals
This year there are two new displays in the museum. A display of local auto racers has been included in this year’s show. Glen Anderson and Carl Souvie, both of Owatonna, were popular local racers at the fair. Priceless photos of both are included in the display. The other new addition is a tribute to current fair board member Dick Reinhardt, who is a 58 year fair board member and a 54 year alumnus on the staff of the Minnesota State Fair, most of those years as a ticket auditor. The Muckle Museum is located on the west side of the fairgrounds in the Muckle Building and will be open free of charge each day of the fair.
Vikings Cheerleaders
Wheelchair and Scooter rentals will be offered by Med City Mobility during fair week. They will be located near the safety zone emergency display. Scooters rent for a minimum of $20.00 for two hours, then $5.00 for each additional hour. Manual wheelchairs rent for a minimum of $10.00 for three hours and then $3.00 for each additional hour.
Fairgoers are invited to meet some special guests coming to the Steele County Free Fair. Goldy the Gopher will be visiting the Federated Insurance booth in the Four Seasons Center on Wednesday from 11:15-1:30 p.m. Two of the Vikings Cheerleaders will be on the grounds on Friday from 5:30-7:30. They will be greeting fairgoers and selling Viking Cheerleader calendars. Proceeds go to the Vikings Children’s Fund.
History of SCFF at museum
Church Services

Free shuttles to fairgrounds
A free shuttle bus, sponsored by Owatonna Bus Co., will travel from Central Park in downtown Owatonna and from the Industrial Park on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 11:00 to 1:00. Ride Bill’s Bus and have lunch with us! Trinity Lutheran Church of Owatonna will offer free shuttle service from the church parking lot to the Steele County Fairgrounds on Thursday and Friday from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. fair week. Drop off and pickup will be near the northwest entrance of the fair (Park Place and Senior Living lot). The shuttle will provide return trips to Trinity as needed…there will be no more than a 5-10 minute wait at the fair shuttle stop. This service is provided by Trinity’s Transportation Ministry and Hospitality Ministry volunteers.
Stage dedication in Reseland’s memory
A dedication of the new Elmer Reseland entertainment stage will take place at 6:00 p.m. on opening night of the fair. The stage is located just outside the 4-H building and will feature the Thank a Farmer magic show and entertainment by Enticing Entertainment. The Owatonna Gymnastics Club will perform on Thursday and Friday at 4:00 p.m.

2016 Season parking pass is $25.00 Daily parking for the gate on 18th street is $5.00 and can be purchased at the gate. Handicapped parking is located off of the Park Street entrance. Handicapped parking requires a Minnesota handicapped sticker along with a season or daily pass and is on a first come-first serve basis.
