Make way for the Steele County fairgrounds in Owatonna August 14-19! Those are the dates of the 2018 Steele County Free Fair, Minnesota’s biggest county fair! Thousands from southern Minnesota and Northern Iowa will attend. Admission to the fair is free. There are over 7,000 free exhibits including 200 animals, the FFA Children’s Barnyard, the Owatonna Community Bank/R & K Electric Exotic Petting Zoo, the Izaak Walton wild game and fish display, free entertainment on three outdoor stages and in the beer garden, 320 indoor commercial exhibits and over 200 outdoor vendors including 100 food stands. Goldstar Amusements will provide 40 thrilling rides on the midway, plus Owatonna Motor Company brings two excellent Celebrity impersonators of Danny DeVito and Jack Nicolson, playing their role so well you’ll forget it’s an act.
Halls of Fame
Tuesday afternoon, both the Equine Hall of Fame and the Steele County Livestock Hall of Fame will take place in the livestock show arena. The Equine Hall of Fame will be held at 12:30 p.m. Honored and inducted this year will be Anita Anderson Grant. The Livestock Hall of Fame will be held at 2 p.m. Inducted this year
will be “Rusty” Paulson and Lester Oeltjenbruns. Thomas Burke will also receive the Livestock Hall of Fame Service Award and be inducted under that category.

Equine Hall of Fame and the Steele County Livestock Hall of Fame to honor new inductees Aug. 14 OWATONNA — Both the Equine Hall of Fame and the Steele County Livestock Hall of Fame will take place at the Steele County Free Fair on Tuesday, Aug. 14 in the livestock show arena. Senior Day at the Steele County Free Fair OWATONNA — Senior Day at the Steele County Free Fair will be held Thursday, Aug. 16. Free parking for those 65 and older will be available from 8 a.m. to noon, sponsored by US Bank of Owatonna. Outdoor stages
There are three outdoor stages that will feature free entertainment each afternoon and evening. They include the United Prairie Bank stage in Fair Square Park, the Elmer Reseland Stage (Moogician, The Bazillions, and Owatonna Gymnastics Club) and the Village of Yesteryear stage. Entertainment begins on Tuesday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. with the Air Force Band in Fair Square Park. Check the fair brochure for scheduled times of entertainment.
Ride specials
The traditional ride specials will again be featured on the Gold Star Midway. Tuesday is Power 96 Radio $2 Tuesday with all rides priced at $2 each beginning at 5 p.m. Wednesday (Kid’s Day #1) is Serengeti Water Park Day featuring a $20 ride pass for unlimited midway rides from noon to 5 p.m. Thursday is Culver’s Moonlight Madness featuring unlimited midway rides from 5-11 p.m. for $22, or $20 with a Culver’s coupon available at Culver’s in Owatonna. Friday is Berkshire Hathaway Advantage Real Estate Friday Family Fun Day. An unlimited ride wrist band to be used from noon to 5p.m. is $20. Saturday is Profinium Inc. Saturday Ride Special. A $22 wrist band entitles the wearer to unlimited rides on the midway plus a chance to win one of eight bicycles being given away. The fair winds up on Sunday with the Pepsi Family Day. A $22 wrist band entitles the holder to unlimited midway rides from noon to 9:30 p.m. plus a free Pepsi and hot dog.
Mega Ride ticket
The midway Mega-Ride ticket costs $55 and will be on sale from July 15 to Aug. 14 only at Hy-Vee in Owatonna. Mega-Ride tickets must be purchased by 5 p.m. on opening day of the fair on Tuesday, Aug. 14. The ticket can be redeemed for a wrist band that will entitle the holder to unlimited midway rides all week.
Children’s Entertainment
Kid’s Days will be featured on Wednesday and Friday of Fair week. Activities begin with a free kid’s show in Fair Square Park at 11 a.m. featuring the dairy themed Magician, “Moogician,” and brand new to the fair, education themed rock n roll light, “The Bazillions.” Across from the Reseland stage, in KRFO Town Square, will be a Decompression Zone with a variety

Senior citizens aren’t forgotten at the Steele County Free Fair. Thursday is U.S. Bank Senior Day. All seniors 62 and over coming to the fair before noon that day can park free in the general parking lot on the ball diamonds. Shuttle service will be available from the parking lot to the west side of the fairgrounds. The Steele County Senior Citizen Volunteers of the Year will be recognized at 11:30 a.m. There will also be senior citizen discounts at many of the vendors. Mega Ride tickets to go on sale July 15 Mega Ride tickets for the 2018 Steele County Free Fair go on sale Sunday, July 15 through 5 p.m. on Aug. 14 at the Hy-Vee store in Owatonna. Tickets are $55 and entitle the wearer of the wrist band to unlimited rides the entire week of the fair on the Goldstar Midway. Wrist bands will be attached on the first day of the fair beginning at 1 p.m. at the midway ticket office. Mega ride tickets must be purchased by 5 p.m. on the first day of the fair. Log on to the new official Steele County Free Fair website; scff.org. The website has
entry forms, schedule of events, grandstand entertainment, beer garden entertainment, free stage entertainment, food vendors and sponsors. You can sign-up for the SCFF Calf Dressing Contest and the Mutton Bustin’ Contest on the SCFF website and the fair office. Both contests will take place Tuesday night of the fair at the “Dirt Kickin’ Wicked Good” Bull Riding event in front of the grandstand. Entries to both contests are on a first come, first serve basis and you must be 18 years of age to participate in the calf dressing
and ages 5-7, with a 60lb weight limit, to participate in the Mutton Bustin. Entry fee is $30 for the calf dressing, $5 for the Mutton Bustin event. You must pre-register by noon on Tuesday, August 14th at the fair office or at the front of the fair grandstand from 6:15 to 7 p.m. the night of the event. You must wear a helmet to participate in both events. Kid’s finger printing will be offered at the fair by the Steele County Sheriff ’s office. The Sheriff will also have kid’s I.D. tags available to attach to small children when they attend the fair.
Church services at the Steele County Free Fair OWATONNA — There will be two church service held on the Steele County Free Fair this year. The first service will be in the Village of Yesteryear on Sunday, Aug. 19 at 9:30 a.m. The worship service is traditional and the message will be
“Celebrating our Heritage” by County Fairgrounds. Pastor Rev. Cindy Halvorson, Pastor Mark Perryman of Northridge First Baptist Church. Special Church will deliver the message. music will be provided by the Bad Tangerines and faith story by Romayne Moore.
