A Passively Heated and Passively Cooled House This passively heated and cooled house is ideal for locations where conventional electric power is cost prohibitive. It minimizes the size of the HVAC system. Geothermal, the most efficient HVAC, minimizes the number of solar panels and wind turbines required for electric power generation. This house doesn’t just slash energy requirements. Its rustic stone and cedar interior glows in natural light flowing through south-facing glass to create a unique ambiance.
A 30% energy tax credit for geothermal HVAC, solar panels and wind generated electricity systems is available until 2016. (For further information regarding energy tax credits, visit www.energysavers.gov/ financial/70010.html.) From a cost perspective, minimization of equipment size with passive heating & cooling makes this technology even more attractive. Monthly energy consumption and cost for this house are shown at passivesolarabodes.com. The yearly energy consumed by the model is 15% of the amount predicted by the Passive Design calculation. It is only 4% of the amount predicted by the Conventional Design calculation. (Results differ by location.)
This design is perfect for anyone who might want to get as far away as possible. Energy for heating and cooling has been minimized by design and demonstrated with construction and data collection. Geothermal HVAC with photovoltaic and wind generated electricity increases the range of location decisions. A combination of modern and old-fashioned technology will maximize lifestyle maintenance for your children and grandchildren in the future.

Polo Under the Pecans
A Benefit for SIRE, Houston’s Therapeutic Equestrian Centers When do high-powered polo ponies “compete” with therapeutic riding horses? When the Brookshire Polo League sponsors an exhibition polo game to raise funds for SIRE. Then add a silent auction, a magnificent asado dinner with a hot Latin band, and you have a memorable event called “Polo Under the Pecans”, or PUP for short!
Mango Punch raised the tent’s roof with festive dance music—from salsa to tango, and from Motown to hiphop. The event chairs, Esther Kane and Tana Wood, organized and planned the event with help from a

In late May, Scott and Tana Wood opened their beautiful ERG Polo Fields to over 350 polo aficionados and SIRE supporters for PUP. The evening opened with a wonderful demonstration of SIRE’s riding program. Our therapeutic riding program allows client riders to match the movement of the horse to stimulate muscles and facilitate movement for a rider. This becomes especially important for a disabled rider. Derrick Perkins rode Tikki (donated by Elisabeth

Following the SIRE demonstration, the polo players galloped onto the field to begin their match. Excited fans watched as Superior Crude Gathering’s team faced the Sterling Turner Foundation’s team. Mallets up, and the game was on! The eventual victory by Sterling Turner Foundation’s players earned them a stunning trophy and applause from the crowd—well

M arilyn H offman the one hundred million dollar realtor ’ expertise in selling extraordinary farms, ranches and estate properties attracts a clientele that reads like a Who’s Who of business, sports, entertainment and the social register. Golfer Lee Trevino, a Saudi Prince, sports legend Deion Sanders, transportation secretary Milo Bryant, a billionaire Texas oilman, Horatio Alger Member, Carl Westcott, cosmetics queen Mary Kay, Merv Griffin, and a major sports team owner have all been her clients.
Marilyn recently made history by listing the most expensive home in Texas, a $100,000,000 property. She also sold one of the largest estates in Texas to the new owners of a major sports team. Her sale of a $9,995,000 Penthouse in Dallas was the most expensive penthouse ever sold in Dallas. Marilyn sold a $13,500,000 estate to the owners of a Scottish castle. Her most recent sale was a $20,000,000 estate that she listed, sold and closed for full price in 24 days. This 35,000 sq. ft. home was the largest and most expensive sale in the state. This estate was previously listed with another international realtor at a lower price and did not sell.
“Marilyn’s aggressive approach to the international marketing of the property resulted in a completed transaction in five months from start to finish. I’m hasten to add that the prior agencies failed completely to do any effective marketing of Brantley Manor, although I did spend a substantial upfront marketing fee with them.”
Marilyn sold one of the most famous Hill country ranches, the Double Diamond Ranch, with 2,000 acres, 20 homes and an exotic game preserve.

3L Cattle Ranch

Canada v Saskatchewan v Pleasantdale RM v Naicam This patiently assembled 36,000-acre offering represents one of the most balanced beef-andgrain combinations available in North America today. Encompassing 19,170 deeded acres and 16,900 acres of private-provincial-tribal leased land, the 3L Cattle Ranch currently carries 2,500 brood cows + the 2011 calf crop + yearlings born in 2010 + replacement heifers + range bulls. Spring-born steer calves typically weigh about 650 pounds in October; yearling steers shipped in August and September go out at about 850 pounds. Additionally, the Ranch puts up all required winter feed and harvests about 1,700 acres in cash crops: canola, oats and barley. The growing season climate is remarkable – 61 millimeters or 2.4 inches of rainfall per month from May through August and plenty of sunshine produce average annual crop yields of 60 bushels of wheat, 75 bushels of barley, 40 bushels of canola and 85 bushels of oats with no irrigation! Knowledgeable prospective buyers may choose to convert more land to cash crops and harvest the abundant grass pastures with yearling cattle. The 3L Ranch lies in Saskatchewan’s renown “black soil” region about 210 kilometers or 130 miles east of Saskatoon. Two fine smaller towns, Tisdale and Melfort, are within about 60 kilometers or 35 miles northeast and northwest of the headquarters. In the past five years, Canada’s economy is most enviable with Saskatchewan’s future being especially bright. The Historic Horse Ranch
T
Montana v Fergus County v Lewistown
The Historic Horse Ranch is nestled in the rolling hills of central Montana about 35 miles northeast of Lewistown. The Ranch is comprised of approximately 25,323 total acres including 22,812 deeded acres plus 2,371 acres of state lease and a small 140-acre federal permit. Positioned on the northern side of the Judith Mountain Range, the Ranch is a rare opportunity to own one of the premier blockedup and contiguous grass ranches in the Big Sky State. The Ranch is ideally located in one of Central Montana’s most desirable and appealing areas. Lewistown and Fergus County afford all the resources required for successful ranching and personal enjoyment of a safe and quiet lifestyle away from the maddening crowds of metropolitan America. The Horse Ranch was first put together to supply remount horses for the U.S. Cavalry in forts throughout the vast Montana Territory in the 1860s and into the 1890s. The Ranch was purchased by Vernon F. Taylor in 1947 and held in the Taylor Family until 1963 when it was passed on to his son, James C. Taylor. These visionaries have spent the last 64 years creatively shaping and improving this significant holding. The expansive operation contains sufficient hay meadows and summer pasture to comfortably run 700 to 750 head of brood cows on a year ’round basis plus a full complement of replacement heifers and bulls. Even to the untrained eye, it is apparent that the grazing resource has been managed conservatively. The remarkable condition of this historic ranch is the result of over six decades of masterful stewardship. The deep timbered draws and grassy plateaus also provide prime habitat for the resident elk herd, trophy mule deer, antelope, wild turkey and upland game birds including sharp-tailed grouse, pheasant and sage grouse. The Horse Ranch symbolizes a quality opportunity to acquire a true operating ranch with enough size, scale and carrying capacity to make some business sense even in today’s tumultuous economic climate. Prospective buyers in solid financial condition with an interest in portfolio diversification and a desire to own one of Montana’s true working outfits should seriously consider The Horse Ranch. Indian Hot Springs Ranch West Texas v Hudspeth County v Ojo Caliente
I
Indian Hot Springs Ranch is located in a small valley formed by the Rio Grande River’s cut through the Quitman Mountains. It is on the United States side of the river, just across from the small village Sierra Blanca, and is almost completely surrounded by mountains. For serene, restful beauty nestled in an invigorating, smog-free valley of the Rio Grande, remote from the hustle and bustle of big-city pollution, Indian Hot Springs Ranch is the place. At the hotel spa, you will find picturesque landscapes, intriguing historical sites and naturally heated waters whose therapeutic values were well known to Indian tribes of long ago. Indian warriors came here to recover and rest from battle and forays across both sides of the border. The Mountains of Old Mexico rise behind the Indian Hot Springs Ranch Hotela, a big masonry hotel built in the 1920s and restored, modernized and appropriately furnished. It provides a comfortable home base for those taking advantage of the many opportunities and new experiences of this enchanted place. In addition to the 12 private rooms in the main hotel, the ranch affords two adjacent duplex apartments and a private cantina (saloon) for the enjoyment of invited guests. The main hotel is within a stone’s throw of the Rio Grande. A swinging bridge connects Indian Hot Springs Ranch to the small, quaint Mexico village of Ojo Caliente. When the first explorers came to this Rio Grande Valley, in which Indian Hot Springs Ranch nestles in quiet splendor at over 3,000 feel in elevation, they found where prehistoric people hand-dug stone troughs around the springs to access the therapeutic waters. Later, the Indians made use of the natural stone bathtubs for bathing in the waters, which they considered to be enchanted liquids capable of healing miracles. These natural bathtubs have been improved with plumbing, as well as construction of the bath and well houses. Since the improvements to the springs, many celebrities from the entertainment world, sports figures, countless professional
athletes and other well-known dignitaries have enjoyed the benefits of the Indian Hot Springs Ranch Spa. The property includes 10 sections that adjoin the river. Each section is approximately half a mile wide and two miles deep, giving it roughly five miles of river frontage. Because of the bends in the river, this amounts to a good deal more lineal feet of frontage. Also included are five sections of land leased from the State of Texas and are located to the rear of the deeded sections approximately two miles from the river. $5,800,000.
