Additional features and even better performance for new handlers
Merlo has updated and upgraded its MultiFarmer telehandler line-up with new engines, improved controls, and increased lift capacities. David Williams reports.
MultiFarmer handlers o er unrivalled versatility, with a standard rear three-point linkage and PTO which allows them to operate implements that would otherwise require a tractor. For 2022, the line-up includes eight variants, including new MF44 models replacing previous MF40 versions and with 400kg additional lift capacity.
Increased productivity
Merlo’s Adaptive Stability Control System (ASCS) display is larger and clearer than the previous Merlo Dynamic Load Control system (MCDC) version and new features include automatic attachment recognition when Merlo attachments are tted, so that matching working load parameters are immediately loaded. When using Merlo buckets, a Free Digging Area mode is automatically installed, providing maximum lift capacity and break-out force if the boom is fully retracted.
User-friendly
The new models gain a Captive joystick, with sensors which recognises when the operator’s hand is present for boom and attachment operation. This o ers greater convenience and operator comfort than the previous version which required a safety button to be pressed. “The new model updates will increase productivity and further improve operator convenience and comfort,” explained Merlo regional sales manager for the south of England, Henry Nash. “MultiFarmer models are unique in the market and o er much greater versatility than conventional handlers. Many farms use them to complement tractor eets and the handlers carry out lighter eld tasks such as grass raking and tedding during the busy grass harvesting season while the tractors work with heavier implements. For most farms they won’t replace a main tractor, but they can be a more cost-e ective option than owning and maintaining a second, older tractor which is used only occasionally when the main tractors are busy.
“Larger MultiFarmer models have heavy-duty hydraulic linkages with full draft control and are capable of performing more demanding eld applications including ploughing and cultivations. They are a popular option for forestry users too.
“On some farms, MultiFarmers have replaced tractors for eld tasks, and these include free-range poultry units where the primary use is materials handling, but then it also does the grassland maintenance including fertiliser applications and mowing. Merlo’s wide range of models with an extensive choice of speci cations caters for the many varied applications our customers nd for them,” he concluded.
The new Merlo MultiFarmer models will enter production in March, with customer deliveries starting in May. FG
