Pruning Tips Bypass

Anvil

• Causes less compression damage. • Suited to live green stems. • Cleaner cut – lessens chance of wound infection. • Requires less force to cut through wood. • Good for hard to reach spots. • Named because the blades ‘pass by’ each other in a scissor motion.

• Better at cutting hard, dry wood. • Has one blade that closes onto a flat surface like a guillotine. • Can crush the part of the plant that is meant to be kept. • Requires less wrist and hand strength to operate. • For use where removal of wood is considered more important than cleanliness of cut.

Saw Blades The range of saws included in this booklet have been individually selected due to their high level of both engineering and material quality. The precision action required for a saw blade to cut effectively, as outlined below, dictates that anything less than the highest quality blade will not satisfy our shareholders’ requirements. Farmlands’ range of correctly hardened and sharpened saws will undertake clean cuts with ease.

The knife-like ‘tip’ of the teeth cut through wood fibres. The integrity of the strength and sharpness of this ground ‘tip’ is essential to achieve an effective cutting action.

Teeth edge carve out wood from between the cuts.

Gullets on the upper edge of the teeth collect and discharge sawdust from the cut. Sharpness and durability is essential for efficiency and effectiveness.

Straight Blade Saws Preferred by professionals and hobbyists alike for ease of maneuverability between and among tightly-spaced branches, straight blade saws are easier to control and less likely to nick nearby branches than curved blades. Straight blades also enable the user to manipulate hinge wood for precision log felling techniques. Although incredibly smooth and efficient cutters, straight blades aren’t quite as fast as curved blades.

Curved Blade Saws The curved saw blade provides greater cutting speed with less effort. Curved blades are more aggressive in their cutting, because during the action the blade first creates a peak in the cut then knocks it off.
