About Issue 2 : Issue 2 is a travel photography diary of my 2018 trip that started and ended in Fukuoka, Japan. It captures the beauty of 7 cities of Fukuoka through a crosscountry road trip across 10 days. Issue 2 is also a visual tribute to a friendship with two other amazing, independent spirits bound by a common love of photography and fueled by each other’s creativity.

In a photography club years ago, we were drawn towards each other’s approach of capturing moments. From the way we framed our photographs to how we postprocessed the images, each of us had different perspectives and styles that we equally admired. At the heart of it, our photography styles were guided by our personalities and emotions. And through various photo-outings and tea sessions, we came to recognise that despite our unique personal approach to our craft, we had similar souls underneath it all.

Jasmine’s free-spirited sense of adventure and experimentation is highly infectious. I love her unfiltered excitement as she tries new techniques like double exposure, diptych and cinemagraphs. Her favourite colour, periwinkle, perfectly describes her anchoring hues of serenity and calmness with a dash of vibrant appreciation to impermanence.

Uthi is the levitation guru, making weightlessness look effortless. He’s a master of poetic descriptions that elevate accompanying images to a whole new level.

His drawings and photographs draw you into the frame, making you wonder what the subject is feeling and thinking. I love his calm and unique perspective that allows us to view the world in a different light.

And then there’s me, a reincarnated dugong who loves a good visual story. For the love of good vibes and tea, I somehow kept getting drawn back to both of them like a moth to a flame.

KUMAMOTO

As our friendship blossomed through numerous photoshoots, we wondered what it would be like to travel together and extend our photography adventure.

In 2018, we finally got a chance to do exactly that. As fate unfolded, Uthi’s life wound up in Japan. So, we killed two birds with one stone by planning a photography travel trip to his new home. In Fukuoka, we explored Japanese culture and spent time with a friend we’ve sorely missed.

About Fatin I. : Based in Singapore, Fatin I. says she must have been reincarnated from a dugong, since she craves diving every other day.

Always searching underwater for a pretty octopus in crevices, blissfully surrounded by bubbles and the blue.

About Unfinished : The one thing that is consistent about me is that I love to start. But I never seem to finish. New ideas led to new projects that I began eagerly but I wasn’t ever able to complete them.

Maybe it was the thrill of starting something new that got me addicted to this. Unfortunately, this feeling never lasts long enough and because of my lazy ass, the constant ebb and flow of continuing the work puts me off the project eventually.

Thus, this zine. ‘Unfinished’ is an incomplete compilation of my adventures in a bid to force myself to record my feelings through photographs. Words ain’t one of my strong suits and I hope this visual assemblage conveys enough.
