the track is back! the trend that hit the fashion world by storm in the noughties isn’t moving anywhere as it still ‘trickles across’ into today’s fashion scene as we’ve seen on the runway from designers such as french luxuray designer house chloe and luxury sportswear brand juicy couture.

‘trickle across theory claims that fashion trends move horizontally within the industry, the movement comes from a specific social group and passes through group to group of similar social circles.’ (Revell DeLong) this theory sits in between the trickle up and down theory that specifically starts at the top and bottom of the industry, designer labels and streetwear.

when discussing the tracksuit there is only one woman we can pay homage to, mrs paris hilton. paris hlton brought the tracksuit to the forefront of fashion in the noughties, displaying the velour juicy couture tracksuit in an array of vibrant colours to her everyday wardrobe. pairing the iconic tracksuit with a pair of flip flops, sunglasses and designer bag you were considered on trend. the tracksuit in the noughties was high in demand for rhinestones covering the bum of the wearer, along with the low rise waist style of the bottoms, fast-forward to 2017 tracksuit trend and it’s all about the figure, with pants that show the figure with a oversized matching jumper. the trend has trickled across from paris hilton in the noughties who was considered a c-list celebrity this informs to the viewer that the trend has moved across from similar social groups at the time, such as the kardashian family who at the time were also low list celebrities who are now considered trend setters in their own right. from the c-list celebs wearing brands that are available to a wide audience and not just the rich and famous allowed the trend to trickle into the fashion world today with fashion bloggers and streetwear’s rocking the same styles.

the trend is trickled to the fashionistas of the world such as high end bloggers, showing different ways to wear the trend. the trend targets audiences of women who are interested in fashion such as bloggers and celebrities, aged between 19-35 years old, women that have a stable career and can afford the whole tracksuit from labels such as adidas and puma. this is a generation y trend, for the millennials that have been shaped by technology as a platform to show and exhibit their style and trends whether it be within the media(magazines) or fashion blog posts.

the tracksuit trend has now burst into the catwalk scene more than ever with us seeing matching pieces being sent down the runway for designers such as fenty x puma, yeezy season and vetement. all the social groups and media have paved the way for designers to have this trend stay on the catwalk for years, and im sure for many years to come. from the juicy couture tracksuit mrs hilton rocked to the adidas tracksuits we see on the catwalk now the overall athestic of the garment hasnt changed.
