Frills were the trend in 2016 in A/W16 and S/S16 and designers such as Tom Ford, Gucci, Alexander McQueen and Balmain did a range of frill garments for the catwalk when it came to fashion shows and fashion weeks. I decided to look at frills and ruffles as a trend because the effect that frills gives to a garment and that it can make you look more dresses up because it’s a lot of detail wherever the frills may be placed on the garment, I think frills can compete any look whether it be any occasion, it still has its elegance. My target audience is from young to middle age. The way fashion is communicated now is through social media such as Instagram as soon as there’s a new trend it’s on social media and Instagram tends to have fashion bloggers promote these things . My target audience would be around 25, she would be in well paid business job and she mainly wears frill garments for smart work wear and other occasions. Some frills are very Structured unlike others may be flowy and have a bit of bounce to the frill, some people wear frills more often for work wear, such as my target audience for a smart, casual look. There’s many outfits you can make from frill garments, from the frilled top tucked into some tailored pants some of the outfits I’ve got pictures of I think are very stylish and are still fashionable today.

Trickle-down effect Frills have been a trend since the 17th century and became another popular trend in 2016 when it came to AW16 figure 11 and SS16, to look how high end has trickled down to high street for example I’ve looked at Alexander McQueen, Balmain, Topshop and River island
Compared to the high end of the market high street have changed the way they’ve taken inspiration from the catwalk to change the way they design frilled garments. The way Ruffles and Frills have trickled from high end to high street is that high end catwalk has all been about big oversized frill garments compared to highstreets they’ve down dressed there ideas by taking ideas from the catwalk and interpreting theminto 1 piece of clothing.

Ruffled shirts started from 17th century portraits then made a debuted on television when Jerry Seinfeld appeared in a “Puffy shirt”. The ruffled shirt .

thas been around for almost 600 years and became one of the biggest trends in SS16 in spring 2016. Also in the early 1600s the ruffles would be replaced by a lace collar then lace because fashionably popular. knowing that the ruffles would be replaced by laces makes me think of the lace frill tops, maybe that’s where designers got the inspiration from to be what ruffles and lace would look like together. I can see where designers get the inspiration from mixing 17th century ruffles compared to ruffles today, seeing it visuallyit makes sense to see how you can interpret frills into garments in different ways. Ruffles then continued into the 1600’s in various forms such as flutedskirts, frilly and puffed blouses, that was also clinched at the hem. Figure 6
