HIGH VISIBILITY STANDARDS Our workwear fabric quality is the foundation of our brand. To ensure each garment we produce has exceptional durability and longevity we test our fabric to the wide range of testing criteria described here. We only approve the fabric to go into production if it meets our high standards. We don’t make claims we can’t prove.

1906.4:2010 This standard explains the use of hi-visibility fabrics and retroreflective materials. It specifies the chromaticity levels to which fabrics need to be dyed in terms of performance and atmospheric pressures in order to comply to the standard. Natural fibre garments have a lower chromaticity level due to the nature of the fabric. EMBROIDERY ON HI-VISIBILITY SAFETY GARMENTS: Excessively large logos may jeopardise the classification of the garment. Embroidery on wet weather jackets may also impair the waterproofing properties of the garment. Please seek professional advice.

This standard refers to how a garment is constructed using fabrics compliant to 1906.4 above. There should be no less then 0.2m2 of unbroken hi visibility fabric on both the front and back of any garment that covers the upper torso. High visibility fabric must not be broken with non compliant fabric within the 0.2m2 area from the top of the shoulders to the waist, so no full side panels at armpit level are permitted. This standard also explains the position of the retroreflective tapes on the garment, the width and quantity used. These tapes should not detract from the 0.2m2 measurement required. Class D = Daytime use Class N = Night time use using retroreflective material Class D/N = Day/night use

4399 This standard refers to the capability of a fabric to protect skin against solar ultra violet radiation (known as UPF = ultra violet protection factor). This standard is an additional bonus to the garment rather than an essential requirement for hi-visibility standards but often specified from specific industry users.

To most people, a safety garment is a safety garment. Orange or yellow, big or small, it’s all the same. Not all hi vis safety garments sold in the market today comply to the latest Australian and New Zealand safety regulation for high-visibility garments 4602.1.2011. Below are a few common examples of garments that would not pass the current 4062.1 2011 AU/NZ standard.

UPF 50+ RATING Ultraviolet Protection Factor (UPF) - a rating designed for fabric and clothing that specifically measures the level of Ultraviolet Radiation transmitted through a fabric onto the skin.

STRETCH FABRICATION A garment that use fibres that will stretch with you to provide increased comfort and unrestricted movement.

RIPSTOP TECHNOLOGY Ripstop fabric provides increased tear and abrasion resistance through an innovative fabric weave. This weave allows the use of lighter weight fabrics to keep you cool while still maintaining a garment that will stand up to the tough jobs.

ADVANCED KNEE PROTECTION A garment with a knee pad provision and extra fabric reinforcing the knee area. This provides greater protection and comfort for those working on their knees.

BREATHABILITY Garments that allow more air to pass through the fabric thanks to innovative fabric design and garment construction. This allows the wearer to stay cool, dry and more comfortable while on the job.

UPF measures both UVA and UVB rays.

WATERPROOF A garment that uses water resistant fabrics and coating to prevent water coming through the outside layer. All Syzmik waterproof garments are seamsealed to prevent water entering through the seams and ensure protection from the elements.

CARE The right care and storage of your workwear is important for it’s durability, function and long term comfort.

WASHING CORDURA® REINFORCEMENTS Cordura® is made from the highest tenacity fibre technology available. A garment with Cordura® reinforcements is built to last with exceptional resistance to tears and abrasion. Cordura® can withstand more then 3 times the wear of traditional workwear fabrics.

Every garment has specific washing instructions which are suited to the particular garment’s material and design. Ensure that zips, buttons and quick close tape closures are closed when the garment is washed to reduce wear and tear.

DRYING It is recommended to dry the garment flat or hung up to reduce the risk of shrinkage.

Introducing Rugged Cooling - Syzmik’s heat stress management range that increases breathability by over 110% while also increasing tear strength by more than 70%. Heat Stress is the single biggest problem affecting our customers at work. Heat stress is not only uncomfortable but can result in serious injury or even death in extreme cases. Under the workplace health and safety act 2011 (AS) it is the legal obligation of employers to put plans in place to mitigate the heat stress risk. Syzmik’s Rugged Cooling range of works shirts and pants changes the way cool workwear is developed. When we started to look for a better solution to heat stress we first had to understand the way the body cools itself which is primarily through the evaporation of sweat. So to aid the body in cooling, we set out to create a fabric that would increase breathability to not only keep the wearer cooler but also allow the body’s sweat to evaporate and dry quicker. The fabric we use is a 100% cotton, produced in a square weave construction that allows the maximum amount of air to pass through the fabric. Added features like extensive mesh venting and vented tape increases the breathability of our range even further. We then set out to make our fabric more durable and developed a ripstop construction in the fabric which uses thick reinforcing thread through out to make the fabric stronger while not limiting the breathability. The result of all this development is a range that is not only cooler and more comfortable but also actually stronger than traditional workwear.

Syzmik’s Fire Armour® range has been created to offer the highest level of performance possible while addressing the major complaints that consumers have had about existing FR products available. As well as delivering on uncompromising protection, Syzmik Fire Armour® takes a leap forward in current FR solutions with fabrics that solve the issue of heat stress and comfort.

FR clothing is needed to protect workers who may be exposed to the risk of fire or arc flash. If non FR clothing, such as cotton is worn when exposed to these risks it will increase the injuries suffered from the incident. Non FR clothing will continue to burn after the source of the flame has been removed at an increasing rate, until all flammable material is consumed. The flame from the continued burning of cotton or other non FR clothing will often cause more intense burns than the original incident itself. Burning clothing will also cause injuries to areas of the body that had not been exposed to the original incident. FR clothing’s key characteristic is that it will self-extinguish when the source of the flame is removed. Good FR clothing should also resist ignition, not melt, drip or break open when exposed to fire or arc flash. These characteristics greatly improve the survival rates and outcomes of anyone exposed to arc flash or flash fire. FR clothing will not prevent all injuries in the case of a flash fire or arc flash incident but they will significantly reduce the injuries and give the wearer an ability to escape the incident. The graph below illustrates the importance of minimising the severity of burns:

All products in the range use fully FR rated trims including, reflective tape, snaps, buttons, zippers and even FR heat seal logos. DESIGNED TO MINIMISE EXPOSURE All products feature gusset sleeves that make it difficult for employees to roll up and wear incorrectly.
