PUBLISHER’S NOTE Photographers, We greatly appreciate the efforts, training, cost and time that you put into perfecting your skill. Our goal is to display your art, in as close to your vision. We prefer to present them in as large a format as possible. There are just a few things to consider while submitting image for a publishing. In layout, the overall composition of an image can determine the options in which that image is laid out. If the original image is cropped too tightly, this may discourage full page display. For example, hands, feet/shoes, hair and the like can be prone to unwanted cropping due to lack of proper proportioning for a typical full 8.5x11 or 8.5x17 page layout. Additionally, consider where faces or body parts may come close to the center of the 2 page, horizontal layout. Help us make Fashion Faces the premiere fashion industry magazine and to display your art, in it’s purest form.

For comfort in viewing, decide how far from the edge of the page you would want an important part of the image, or test, to be. We receive many photos that are pushed to the very edge of the image. It limits the way that we can display the entirety of the image. Again as we work with the finest photographers around the globe, our goal it to present your true vision for your images. Please help us, by not cropping so close. Make open space when taking your shots. With every shoot, think cover, and shoot some images with plenty of head room for a masthead. In some cases you may want to send us two images. One with plenty of room and one with your desired post-production crop. We promise to keep your image looking their best! Don’t forget the bleed!

Helene France is an award winning

fashion stylist, who founded “Helene France” in 2010. Since the opening of her self-titled line, France has been styling TV hosts, commercials, public figures, magazine editorials, and runways for fashion week in New York and Washington D.C. She has worked with renowned designers (i.e. Sarli Couture, Alberto Rodriguez, and John Paul Ataker) and styled collections for their runway shows. 
 Before entering into the fashion industry France was an associate in a major Washington D.C. law firm. After years of studying law in college and then getting her masters, France decided to switch career paths. Good thing she did, because now the fashion industry has an amazing talent. In 2013 France won best emerging clothing stylist at the Maryland Fashion Awards, and is a nominee for this upcoming year for best clothing/stylist category. 
Philanthropy is what really makes France stand out as a stylist. After losing a parent to cancer, she was adamant to help women who are affected by breast cancer. She participates in fund raising events and produces fashion shows to benefit breast cancer foundations and support woman associations.

A few days before Thanksgiving, Emergency Animal Medical Technicians™ from the Arizona Humane Society were called to rescue a cat who had gotten herself in a prickly situation. When they arrived, the feline was covered in cactus needles and it took several hours for veterinarians in AHS’ trauma center to remove all the spines from her paws, tail, muzzle mouth and one of her eyes. The 1-year-old kitty cat, now known as Cactus Jane, has made a full recovery and is now ready to find a new home- hopefully one where she can reside as an indoor house cat so she won’t get into any more trouble. Jane has proven herself to be a love bug with a sweet disposition and as an added bonus, she’s good with kids and other cats. She will contently sit on your lap while you gently pet her and all the while her purr rumbles like a diesel engine. shley Stainton was born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona. She is currently attending Law School at Southern Methodist University’s Dedman School of Law and will graduate in May 2016. Ashley received her undergraduate degree from Southern Methodist University in May 2013, graduating Summa Cumm Laude with degrees in Journalism, Psychology and Fashion.

In 2008, Ashley was crowned Miss Arizona Teen USA. She spent the year traveling around her home state of Arizona, to various parts of the United States, and represented Arizona the 2008 Miss Teen USA Pageant put on by Donald Trump and NBC Universal in the Bahamas. Ashley placed in the Top 15 at the pageant. Recently, Ashley competed in and placed top 5 at the 2013 Miss Arizona USA Pageant this past January. She has no plans to compete for another pageant in the future, and is focusing on completing her juris doctorate.

FF :

What does fashion mean to you?

NS:

Fashion means to me the trend, manner, or way of style at the moment. I also believe that fashion is a personal entity. My clients are encouraged to dress in a way that appeals to them, and keeps them mostly in their comfort zone. However, we like to add a little twist or flair to keep them up to date with the style of the moment.

FF:

When did you realize you wanted to get into the business side of the fashion industry?

NS :

I always loved fashion since I was a little girl designing clothes for my Barbie’s and Francie dolls. It was an easy transition for me to go into the business side of fashion, because I studied finance in college. My first job in the fashion industry was working in New York for Gitano Jeans, where I was their showroom model and assistant buyer. I was very lucky and was even able to do their print work when a client decided I was the one. That moment led me back into full time modeling, acting, and developing my own style.

FF: How long have you been in business?
 NS : I have been in business for 20 years. I started my first store in New Jersey.

FF :

Describe the general process you go through to select a piece of clothing?

NS : When I select a piece of clothing, especially a gown, I do not have to look at it for a long time. I know within seconds if it’s something I can work with, or something that will be a heavenly creation with the help from my amazing seamstress, Irene Jameson. 
 When purchasing or designing for my stores, I tend to pick things that really jump out at me. I like things that will allow my clients to have a unique style. I love very rich and airy fabrics for the flowy-type dresses and gowns, but I also love gorgeous colorful stones, which can add detail to bodice styles. I love my gowns to have depth and a clean look inside and outside. The dresses I love to pick out the most are those for my pageant girls. I want them to look amazing while feeling great. Again, I must stress the great work my seamstress, Irene, does by making the gowns like second skin for these girls. She has a very rich eye and is my partner in another one of my stores.

FF : From your experience, what do you believe makes a quality gown? 
 NS :

A quality gown is first and foremost beautiful. It has rich fabric, impeccable design, great fit, clear clean stones, and a great line that follows the body where it should.

What matters to you the most in selecting fashion brands or designer? 


NS : A designer of a fashion brand that instantly thrills me, makes me excited to work with them. Support from the designer and staff are very important, as well as personalization and how well we can collaborate together, typically. FF: NS :

How do you prepare for a fashion shoot or show?


To prepare for a fashion shoot, I consider the models shape, stature, and coloring, to figure out what will look best on each girl. I have to make sure that she compliments and highlights what she is wearing.

NS :

What matters most to me when selecting the fashion brands, is a designer will work with my ideas and suggestions. I like for designers to have cutting edge designs, like McDuggal, and I love Jay at Panalopy for his unique styles. Karishma Creations has a gorgeous outlook and bright colors, and Colors Dress has gorgeous material, flow, and stunning details. I am also a huge fan of Angela and Alison for their amazing stonework and unique patterns.

What advice do you have for aspiring models or pageant contestants?

NS:

My advice to any aspiring model is to be yourself, and be comfortable in your own skin. God blesses everyone with different types of beauty, but the most beautiful girl is the one who shines from within. I modeled in New York at a very young age and later went into acting. I did this, because it was so much fun to be able to express myself in that format.

FF:

What do you like best about selecting clothes for your clients?

NS :

My favorite part of selecting clothes is to visualize them on certain clients. I love when I call a client to come try on a dress, the expressions they have when they first see themselves in it.

FF : How would you define your personal style?
 NS : My personal style cannot really be defined,

seeing as here are so many styles that I love. I am always drawn to champagne colors first. However, I love the bright colors and lots of stoning detail too. I can see a gown that can be plain, but have a classic look and I am drawn to them as well. I gravitate towards the ones that, I feel, will make my clients standout the most.

FF :

What are some of your fashion goals?

NS : My fashion goals are to continue to grow with my own personal line, “Norieta”, and to make more unique signature styles that are even more cutting edge.

EXCEPTIONAL EYEWEAR

Exceptional Eyewear with Alexander Daas Sophisticated, fashion forward and elegant. These are the words eyewear designer and stylist Alexander Daas uses to describe his optical brand. Aside from offering a unique aesthetic, Daas creates his own eyewear line catering to those with narrower faces.

“I wanted to have some kind of signature but I also didn’t want it to be loud,” Daas says. “(Customers) like the high-end feel of having something, but...they don’t feel like they are a walking advertisement for the brand.” Daas uses his styling background to influence his designs rather than following current trends. He utilizes dual-side coloring and color mixing to add a modern touch to the classic shape of his eyewear.

Daas grew up in the eyewear industry, helping run his family’s optical boutique in San Francisco until he officially took over after graduating college. As a secondgeneration optician, Daas built up a clientele that came to him for custom designs and alterations because they had smaller faces.

The Alexander Daas eyewear collection uses top-of-theline manufacturing techniques and materials, such as a high quality plastic called acetate. Daas says he draws out the concept and shape for each piece of eyewear, which is then handmade to add better quality and stand out from opposing mass-produced labels.

In fact, 25 percent of the population has a small pupillary distance, or the distance between the pupils. Due to a lack of selection in luxury eyewear, Daas says many adults with small PD are forced to buy child or cheaper quality frames.

“I SAW A MAJOR MARKET NOT BEING MET IN THE LUXURY DIVISION OF EYEWEAR.”

“I had my own ideas that I wanted to put together and decided to launch my own line,” Daas says. “I saw a major market not being met in the luxury division of eyewear.” Daas launched his first collection in 2010 and says his line is personal and unique. The one of-a-kind hinge serves as the signature to his brand and is placed on the inside of the temple, which customers appreciate. He also focuses mainly on the aesthetic fit of his glasses, using elegant hinges with a more classic frame to define his brand.

One thing Alexander Daas has enjoyed about being an eyewear stylist and designer is seeing the optical industry change over the years. “The industry has kind of changed to where now eyewear has become much more fashion forward and now it is an accessory,” Daas says.

With Post Christmas/New Year Blues, and those unwanted Christmas Presents lurking in the corners of your mind! Let’s Kick Out The Jams and get 2014 off to a good start with a little consciousness raising Uplifting Karma! As we take a journey back through the time machinery of style! To a time when fashion & music had real ‘attitude’! Jumped into bed together and created beautiful inspiring and wonderfully uncontrollable, unruly children! And the ‘Coolness Factor’ was For Real! The Look & The Sound of Fashion & Music, was at the Cutting Edge of Cool! And was definitely ‘Art with a Capital A’! Ladies & Gentlemen, welcome to the looks and sounds that made it all possible, and which are still being plundered shamelessly (albeit rather unimaginatively) today! For most people today, it is possibly rather hard to imagine a world not driven and controlled by over professionalized marketing & branding! Where all is a ‘construct’ a cynical marketing collage of the past (i.e. Lady Gaga) that passes itself of as something new happening and now! To a credulous consumer group, dumbed down by ruthless brand conditioning, and living a reality that increasingly evokes the story of ‘The Emperors New Clothes’!

In the beginning was the 60s! And the 60s started with Mary Quant and her Bazar shop on the Kings Road Chelsea in London! MQ, together with the Inspired genius hairstylist the late Vidal Sassoon, created a Cultural Revolution! MQ was a posh girl with an even posher husband & partner (Alexander Plunket Green). And Vidal was a working class Jewish boy from the poorest part of East London, who had managed to ‘trade up’ through sheer force of style! The combination of these two elements, created the ‘Looked That Cooked’ and literally ‘Changed The World!’ The other major player in the game was a gay working class Scottish (Glasgow) motor mouth called John Stevens! MQ though, and her Chelsea shop primarily catered for wealthy ultra trendy posh girls with cut glass accents! However what really made this ‘Alchemy Of Style’ so interesting was the addition of the then extremely young and ultra hip ‘Andrew Loog Oldham!’ Oldham went on to become the manager of the fledgling Rolling Stones, indeed the Stones 60s’ cool, would never have happened without him! And without doubt, his sense of ‘the look’ was certainly enhanced by working for MQ!

LET’S KICK OUT THE JAMS AND GET 2014 OFF TO A GOOD START WITH A LITTLE CONSCIOUSNESS RAISING UPLIFTING KARMA!

However! It was not always so! (As both I, and certainly the FF team know only to well!) And this is the reason why the FF circulation is moving on up, while others have only a downward trajectory! Because it’s all about ‘ATTITUDE’!

John Stevens though was a whole different ball game! A tough gay young mover and shaker he had read the signs and signals sent by the emerging UK Mod Movement, and he was quick to act on it! Within two years he had a string of ultra hip small boutiques (all under different names) in Carnaby Street in London’s Soho! Which became the island of ultra cool, for the Mod Generation! Not only the young Mod Faces and Tickets, but also all the cool new bands that went on to change the world, from The Beatles to The Stones, The Who, The Small Faces, The Kinks, indeed everyone who was hip young beautiful and happening! The Cool Look of these bands was an integral part of the music, indeed you could not (and cannot) separate the LOOK, from the SOUND! Perhaps the coolest dressers of them all were The Who and The Small Faces, with their more or less ‘authentic’ Mod Look! However as 65/66 came around, and the new ultra hip post Mary Quant Chelsea Boutiques like the mind blowingly ultra cool Hung On You and Granny Takes a Trip, opened up, and Psychedelia came in! Twiggy & Marianne Faithful were the iconic dream girls! The Beatles & The Stones, became the true Zengangsters of Style!

IT IS ALSO IMPORTANT TO REMEMBER THAT FASH ION I N THE 60’S AND 70’S WAS ALL ABOUT LONDON! Hair had become longer fashion had become totally androgynous and more flamboyant (very important point!) and the pungent aroma of ‘exotic cheroots’ was definitely in the air! The best illustration of ‘the look’ is to look at images of Brian Jones, founder member of the Stones who went on to die so tragically young! Brian Jones (and his girlfriend Anita Pallenberg) perhaps more than anyone personifies the brilliant ‘Psychedelic Mod Dandy’ Look of the 60s! 108

This of course was an entirely androgynous look, and boys and girls would swap and wear each others clothes at will! Also one has to remember how skinny all the Brits were then! Post War UK had reared a generation of hip skinny beautiful people reared on the austerity and food rationing of the war! Today’s terminal overweight/ obese culture simply did not exist! As the sixties gave way to the seventies David Bowie and more than anyone else Roxy Music, created the next cultural revolution of style! And it is very important to remember that in all these periods I refer to, Fashion Designers and Pop Stars, functioned as one single integrated subculture! Most of them came from Art College Backgrounds, and most knew each other! The early to mid 70s was principally about three shops/designers: Biba in Kensington, Alkasura in Chelsea, and Mr Freedom, also in Chelsea! There were many other great designers, the late great genius of Ossie Clarke for example, however it was Biba, Alkasura and Mr Freedom that personify the era! It is also important to remember that Fashion in the 60s and 70s was all about London! Paris was considered incredibly dated, as was Italy, and the USA did not feature at all, indeed American fledgling hipsters flooded into London to buy there clothes (and music). As the 70s wore on a new vibe came in! A harder edge appeared, driven and created almost entirely from London based art colleges ‘Punk’ howled its way onto the streets of London (and around the world). In reality ‘Punk’ was an ‘Art Movement,’ a ‘Performance Art Installation,’ ‘Revolt Into Style’, and it utterly and completely altered and subverted the whole concept and idea of fashion!


To see images today of The Sex Pistols is (to see) ‘The Look’ that changed the world...making Vivienne Westwood and Malcolm McClaren rich & famous! A look at so much of the imagery of the Punk/New Wave/Post-Punk bands of that time - The Clash, The Slits etc. etc., show a look that has, and still is being recycled in fashion thirty five years later! Madonna for example took her entire early look from The Slits! By 1978 at the very latest, Punk was well and truly over, and had metamorphosized into something called ‘New Wave’/’PostPunk’ (which is where the most interesting fashion and music really begins!)! An examination of this period will show a strong ‘German Influence’, certainly in Manchester’s Factory Records, with Peter Saville’s inspired Artwork, and the look and ‘feel’ of bands like Joy Divison, and many of the more ‘Industrial’ Northern English bands! In the late 70s and early 80s something called ‘Goth’ appeared! This had (and indeed has) many shapes and forms, but it is a look that embedded itself almost permanently into designers and the fashion industry (including today!) And when Yohji Yamamoto and Rei Kawakubo first hit Europe they were often perceived as a type of ‘High End Designer Goth’ (and indeed still are!) The Powerfully imagery and music of Germany’s Kraftwerk, pervaded the whole of the 80s, and there was very little cool pop or imagery that did not have a hefty slice of Krafwerk/Germanic Cool in it, or indeed of Einsturzende Neubauten, Kraftwerks more abstract industrial cousins in Berlin! The 80s was probably the high point in fashion, with brilliant and inspired ‘Street Style’, driven by music and club culture! This spread out from the streets and clubs of London and took over the world! The first movers in this were (as usual) the Japanese, who having picked it up, did it better than anyone else (and indeed still do!). The coolest, most iconic ‘Pop-Woman’ of this period was perhaps The Eurythmics’ Annie Lennox, with her ultra cool androgynous minimalist tailored look and boyish hennaed hair (a look lifted entirely from the all-girl Berlin Group Malaria!).

As for Madonna? Again, her career launching look was lifted very cleverly from London Street Style, and in particular The Slits! To visit NYC in the 80s, was like visiting a rather cool reflecting mirror of London Street Style! Not however LA, which then (as now) was/is still stuck in ‘Punk Nostalgia’ and ‘Retro Rock’ clichés!

THE SEX PISTOLS IS ‘THE LOOK’ THAT CHANGED THE WORLD...MAKING VIVIENNE WESTWOOD AND MALCOLM MCCLAREN RICH & FAMOUS! Throughout the 80s London had the most inspired and inventive fashion scene in the world! Driven by ‘Street Fashion Cool’ & ‘The Ultra Hip Club Stylists’ labels and designers emerged that were (and indeed are) still moving, shaking and being plagiarized and copied by young designers, labels and brand to the present day! Workers For Freedom/Body Map (David Hula)/ Demob (Willy Brown)/Wendy Dagworthy/ and the wonderful (and sadly missed) Hyper Hyper and Kensington Market! Took the idea of Ultra Cool Anarchic Street/Club Style & Social Democracy, and created a whole new ‘Postmodern Look’! And it is this ‘Look & Sound’ that still drives and influences Fashion/Music/Pop-Culture, to the present day!

The 90s was without doubt the last time when both fashion and music united as one single unified culture, and was genuinely fresh new inventive and exciting! ‘Brit Pop’ had taken off in a massive way, with cool arty bands like Pulp, Blur, Elastica, Suede, The Stone Roses, Happy Mondays and Oasis, kicking out the jams, with a whole fresh new take on pop culture and a brilliant visual style, still being copied and recycled today! The real big new in the 90s though was ‘Clubculture’! With Techno/Trance music filling the clubs all over Europe and Ibiza becoming the center of the universe for all who were young cool stylish and beautiful! The look that became known as ‘Clubwear’ ruled! And spread around the globe! Sadly the USA (other than NYC & a few ultra hip young dudes with their radar plugged in to what was happening!)) rather missed out in most of this! But it is this ‘look’ (like 70s punk retro) which is being continually being re-shaped/re-modeled and re-hashed (just like music) in an increasingly desperate attempt to inject the current ‘emperors new clothe-ism’ of the fashion and music industry with a less than believable illusion of ‘Wow’!

WHY TODAY EVERYBODY IN FASHION & MUSIC TRIES TO IMITATE THE PAST RATHER THAN CREATE THE FUTURE!

What has to be remembered is this: It was the ‘Sound’ the bands/music of all these periods (right up until the end of the 90s) that inspired designers! NOT the other way round! Young fashion design students at London’s Central St Martins and The Royal College Of Art (still today the most prestigious and influential fashion/design faculties in the world) would spend their nights in the clubs posing, hanging out, dancing and seeing bands. Indeed many of the coolest looking and sounding bands came from art school backgrounds (and still do). So these young design students would create ideas that expressed the ‘look’ & the ‘attitude’! So it ALL came from ‘The Street’ the ‘Subculture’! Not as it is today, from the artless uniformity of Marketing & Branding, applied from ‘Above’!

Chris Garland What held all this together of course was The Face Magazine! More than any other publication then or since (although FF shows definite signs of moving in this direction I am happy to say!) The Face had it’s ‘Finger on the Trigger ‘of music and fashion! It was the ‘Connector’! And global hipsters would religiously buy their copy of the magazine each month, knowing that what ever was featured, was way ahead of the game, totally ‘below the radar’! And nobody else yet knew about it! A look at some of the collage of images that accompany this article will illustrate how cool it all was, and why today everybody in fashion and music tries to imitate the past rather than create the future! However, I like many, who ‘were there’ can sense a change! The ‘codes, signs & signals’ are all there! It’s about to get exciting and interesting again! And the next ‘Cultural Revolution’ is just around the corner! So make sure you get your copy of FFM each month! And when the train leaves the station! INTERVIEW WITH CANADIAN ACTRESS & ONE OF MAXIM’S TOP 100 MODELS, LAURA VANDERVOORT FF:

How did you know that acting was something you wanted to do for the rest of your life?

LV:

I truly didn’t when starting. I was 13 and was inspired by the movie, “My Girl.” It seemed like something so special, being able to evoke emotions in others through a personal and emotional art form. I had really been focusing on sports, martial arts particularly. As I grew into the industry and into myself, I challenged myself by working on different projects, and I ultimately realized I had a long lasting passion for it.

...SOMETHING SO SPECIAL, BEING ABLE TO EVOKE EMOTIONS IN OTHERS THROUGH A PERSONAL AND EMOTIONAL ART FORM.

FF:

What would you consider to be one of the defining moments in your career thus far?

LV:

I feel like every project has taught me crucial things about being an actor and being in this tricky business, but it also taught me a lot about myself. Picking a defining moment is hard. Personally, defining moments would be those days on set I wasn’t sure I could get through... but did. Professionally, defining moments aren’t as clear. “Smallville” was a wonderful opportunity for me to get me in front of the American industry.

I had worked so long as a Canadian child actor, but “Smallville” truly helped me become more visible. “Ted” was a big moment for me both personally and professionally. Working with one of my first crushes, (Mark Wahlberg) and finally being a part of a feature film many would see. Every project has wonderful lessons and challenges. That’s what I live for!

FF:

You’ve been in so many movies and TV shows, which one of the characters that you’ve played do you relate to the most?

LV: I always try to find a way to relate to every role. Some are obviously closer to home then others. My role as Frankie in the Indie film “Damage,” was the furthest I’ve been from myself, a true departure. Whereas my new series, “Bitten,” has been a character I have fallen in love with. Elena (Bitten) is so layered. I relate to her in many ways, but also just invested so much of myself in her for six months that I feel closest to her. FF:

You were starring in a show in Canada, what do you think is a difference between productions in Canada compared to the U.S. (If there is a difference at all)?

LV:

There really is no difference. It’s all about the work you put in. High budgets or low, you really make it what you want. Perhaps, in Canada we say “eh” and “sorry” a little more while working, but there truly is no difference in terms of your personal experience. On the business side...Canadian and American projects can differ greatly, I’m sure.

FF:

What are your plans for the future?

LV: I honestly would love to continue working and to continue challenging myself. There are still so many genres I’d like to take on: period pieces, Westerns, comedies, action films, etc. FF:

What is the biggest challenge you have set for yourself to conquer?

LV:

I am always the toughest on myself to get work, to do my best at work, and then to get work again. With this business you are constantly looking for that next job. That’s enough of a challenge that we all put on ourselves. I think, I was also fairly conscious of breaking away from being seen as a child actor in Canada, and being taken seriously as a serious actress both in Canada and in the US.

You were on the “Maxim Top 100 List” …twice! What is a ritual that you do that always makes you feel good?

I grew up playing sports. Because of that I have always loved working out; spinning, Moksha and hiking are my staples...

...It’s just an opportunity to not only feel better, but also quiet your mind. Moksha is a great way to focus on being calm, to just be at ease, and still, and focus on your breathing.

FF:

You were recently motion pictures “This and “Ted” what was part when working on

in two major Means War” your favorite these films?

LV:

I was working on the ABC series “V”, in Vancouver at the time we filmed “This Means War.” I was lucky enough to be asked to work on the film for two days in between filming “V.” Working with the well-known young actors on “This Means War”, (especially Tom Hardy who I had just seen in ‘Bronson’) was thrilling. “Ted” was a wonderful experience. I hadn’t truly done comedy yet.

F F :You were featured in two of my favorite Disney movies growing up, what made you not want to go that route and be a Disney star?

LV: Hahaha! It wasn’t a decision I had to make. I did a few Disney movies as a child, but soon after started working on a Canadian series for four years. After that, “Smallville” and “V” came about and some other films! By then, I was older and moving into more adult roles and wanted a true challenge. FF:

What do you think is most important thing to do, to make sure that you’re carrying yourself the way you want to be perceived in the media?

LV:

...I WOULDN’T WANT TO BE PERCEIVED AS ANYTHING BUT MYSELF AND WHO I AM.

I wouldn’t want to be perceived as anything but myself and who I am. So, I just make sure I take the risks I’m comfortable with taking, and comfortable with the consequences of those decisions.

Working with Patrick Warburton and Mark Wahlberg was insane. They were so kind. We would improvise under the direction of director Seth Macfarlane.

Not allowing anyone to talk you into anything, being kind and real, and being appreciative and humble, but also knowing when to step up and make your voice heard…if necessary.

It was all I could do to not laugh when Patrick came up with the most hilarious one-liners take after take. I just felt lucky to be working alongside them.

That was the toughest lesson for me. People will respect you if you have a voice and opinion. You can’t be afraid of that.

If you could describe your love in three words, they would be...

LV:

Loyalty, patience, and understanding.

Elena becomes the only female to survive a bite, and hence begins the incredible dark and edgy story of Elena’s two worlds colliding. She tries to maintain a normal life in Toronto while denying who she has become.

FF:

You’ve been on countless magazine covers, red carpets, premieres, etc.? What is the first thing to do when deciding what to wear?

LV:

I used to always just wear what I felt comfortable in. As I’m getting older, I like to take more risks. I love fashion and trying new things. I have a wonderful stylist and friend, Karen Raphael, and my hair and makeup guru and friend, Glenn Nutley, that help me get it right and encourage me to try new things.

FF:

“BITTEN” IS BASED ON A SERIES OF NOVELS BY NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER, KELLEY ARMSTRONG. I PLAY THE LEAD, ELENA MICHAELS.

Tell us about your new show, “Bitten”, and supporting cast?

LV:

It’s honestly the most challenged I’ve been yet. “Bitten” is based on a series of novels by New York Times bestseller, Kelley Armstrong. I play the lead, Elena Michaels, who grew up in a foster care system. She has had a horrific childhood, and was always afraid to trust and love. She falls in love with her Professor (Clay) in college and finally feels at ease. Willing to trust. She soon feels betrayed when she discovers he is a werewolf (don’t you hate when that happens), and bites her thereby destroying any chance she has at a normal life.

It’s also about the pack and family dynamic she has always wanted, but becoming a horrifying animal repulses her. The cast is absolutely wonderful. We all immediately clicked, like any pack. It’s a joy working with all of them; I looked forward to it every morning. We pushed each other hard, and gave our all to the show. Bitten already has a large existing fan base thanks to the novels, so we wanted to make sure we gave that loyal fan base what they’d imagined, plus so much more.

PERSONAL INSIGHT S I think photography is a lifetime learning, you will never get to point where you will stop and say you have done everything there is to do, it is constantly evolving with times, that is why, it is important for you have to develop your own personal style. Your personal style should come from within your own inner soul. You create scenarios outside of the frame to give viewers a sneak peak of what is going on to establish interest and engage everyone involved.

WORKING METHODOLOGY I follow this mantra since I started photography: “Imagine…Achieve” , because if you could imagine you could achieve. Everything starts by thinking, planning, executing, and making things happen. In addition, the key ingredient to a successful photography career is to always have FUN in everything that you do because it matters.

My name is Franz Szony, and I am but a boy who paints with his camera. I approach photography from an illustrator’s perspective. Although my technique is more modern than my aesthetic, I deem to create a wondrous illusion that is photo-real. This way, the viewer can believe the illustration (no matter how fantastical) actually exists. I blend my Neoteric perspective with my devotion to the Rococo, in essence this becomes my mantra to create a lush world that is ambiguous in character. An image that is unclassifiable in time or place with a celebration of the androgynous. My combination of traditional theatrical tricks together with digital illustration techniques create the illusion of a painting, even though the image is actually a photograph. I do believe in beauty, but I also believe in the intention and thought behind that beauty. In my work the imagery is seductive, but the feeling will encourage you to understand the story. Much of my work is inspired by my dreams. The worlds and characters I’ve dreamt have influenced both minute details as well as entire works of art...visually and emotionally. The diary I keep next to my bed has been filled with sketches over the years. Most people think that when we are asleep, we are unconscious. However, many studies show that we are more conscious when we sleep than when we are awake. If so, I can’t help but think our dreams to be more real and truthful than the physical world.

If you can respond to the beauty, look deeper for the feeling, then go even further, you can find the “space between your thoughts.” My intention is to inspire the viewer into this state of mind. If I can propel the onlooker into a transcendental daydream, my magic has worked. To elicit a response to an image requires a good subject and an even greater photographer with a vision to share. How do you judge what makes a good photograph? Art is subjective. What gives the photographer an artistic eye? Franz Szony grew up in Nevada. As the son of a casino manager, he watched all the shows that came to town. The show’s costumes clearly have affected his work. He enrolled in art classes at the age of five and the legend was born. Lucky for us at an early age, Franz realized that he was destined to be an artist. He immersed himself in the craft by studying the history of photography and the techniques of other photographers then perfected his own style that would set him apart. Coming into his own over the years has had its ups and downs but he never lost sight of his path. He has no regrets and thinks the word “regret” should be banned. With the closing of Szony’s first show in Los Angeles, and after he finished perfume ads for fashion designer, Furne One, I wanted to know more about Szony’s path and how he perfected his “artistic eye”. I like to think of my photography in the terms of fashion. My fine art photography is my couture, and customercommissions are my ready to wear. However sometimes these cross paths, and my customer commissions want the fine art, this is almost always in the form of advertisements. My fine art photography (like couture) is my vision completely; it represents the fantasy and the unattainable.

Amato Haute Couture and brand, Furne One, created by eccentric fashion designer, Furne Amato has never been more sought after. This illustrious creative is esteemed worldwide in the fashion and entertainment industries in anticipation of each lavished couture piece that graces bodies of the glamorous. It’s no wonder it wasn’t long before Amato’s Dubai-based designs and face were foreseen to take the red carpet and center stage, globally. From an early age living in the Philippines, young Furne was captivated by fashion. Already sketching at age ten, he used his inherent interest in aesthetics, gleaning appreciation from his Mother and Grandmother’s own admiration for beautiful appealing apparel. By 1994, Josie Natori and other foundational fashion players took notice after his competitive win for the MEGA Magazine Young Designer of the Philippines Award with his Furne One line. He was Natori offered an apprenticeship by Natori, herself, at her design house in New York. That same year, Amato received the first prize at Japan’s Women’s Wear Awards. All of his exploration and intrigue paid off, as his next notable accolade was as finalist at Manila’s Fashion Designer Awards three years later.

In 2008, Germany’s Next Top Model invited Amato as a special guest designer for the show’s season finale with supermodel, Heidi Klum. This initiative launched international response, and influenced his repeat role for the following three years! While International Fashion Week(s) from London, Dubai, Los Angeles and Miami, desired this rising designer on their catwalk, he was marked as a favorite, bringing monumental success. This brought the acclaim of celebrity status, as sensations including: supermodel, Heidi Klum, and singers, Jennifer Lopez, Katy Perry, Shakira, Nicole Scherzinger, Amber Rose and Nicki Minaj considered his creations a musthave. Excitedly, the brands’ first boutique in the US opened successfully in Los Angeles (2012) with more cities to come. Furne One and Amato Couture are a result of diligence. With so many talented designers it’s interesting to include that he believes his luck was inclusive of “being in the right place at the right time.” Either way, it is time for Furne Amato to shine.

In 2002, the elite clientele in Dubai were thrilled as Furne opened his first boutique. He called it, Amato. Meaning “beloved,” it was no wonder his idolizing patrons had first glimpses of Furne’s unique creations. Again, Amato’s work set the stage for an inundation of offers including Swarovski’s request for a highly embellished bridal dress for their 2007 limited edition book, Unbridled. This opened a collection partnership with them yet again for its Crystalised Swarovski Elements events.
