Steps to Glowing Skin

t’s only 45 minutes long. But to those who attend, it’s transformative. Spiritual even. Drop into a class—literally any class—and behold the magic. The lights are dim, the music is loud and the instructors, inspirational.

Whether you are having a staycation, or prefer to shield your skin from the sun, bronzer allows everyone to achieve a healthy, beautiful glow. Application is as easy as 1-2-3. Start by selecting a shade one to two tones deeper than your natural skin tone. If your desired look is luminous and sun kissed, seek out a bronzer with shimmer. NARS bronzer in Laguna has just enough shimmer for a golden glow (local Sephora stores and Sephora.com, $39). To create supermodel cheekbones, look for matte shades of bronzer. It does double duty by not only creating a tan appearance, but also providing natural contour on the cheeks. Steer clear of orange bronzer, as the end result tends to be ruddy and orange. The best tool to apply a bronzer is a dense, tightly packed kabuki brush. The Make Up For Ever 124 Kabuki Brush is a favorite ( local Sephora stores and Sephora.com, $52) as it applies the perfect amount of bronzer and does the blending for you. When applying bronzer, think of the number three. By creating an imaginary number three on your face, your bronzer puts the focus on areas naturally hit by sunlight; your temple, cheekbones, and jawline. 1. Begin by placing your brush on the cheekbone and sweep on bronzer. 2. Next, sweep the brush in a C motion toward your temple. 3. Finally, create another C motion and sweep the brush back down to your jawline. Repeat steps one through three on the opposite side. To further enhance your bronzer, apply a blush that mimics the hue of your cheeks after a day spent running on the beach. Maybelline Dream Bouncy Blush in Hot Tamale is a lightweight gel texture that feels like a powder, but wears like a cream ( local Ulta stores and Ulta.com, $7.99).

Created in 2006, SoulCycle has birthed a movement. Devotees like Kelly Ripa and Lena Dunham have made the classes trendy, but that’s not why the workouts have a cult following. The founders, Julie Rice and Elizabeth Cutler have reinvented indoor cycling. With 36 locations nationwide—and approximately 50,000 people riding each week—SoulCycle is no passing fad. We recently caught up with the queens of spin. FW: When and how did you two come up with the idea for SoulCycle? Why spinning? Julie Rice: We met at a lunch and shared the common vision that fitness could be an inspiring,

challenging and joyful experience, and that you could get a full body workout in 45 minutes. We had both discovered indoor cycling and liked it, but knew the experience could be so much more. FW: How was the name conceived? Elizabeth Cutler: I have to credit my husband for the name. He thought of it in the shower. FW: What do you think is the secret to the success of SoulCycle? EC: SoulCycle isn’t just a workout, but a total mind and body experience. It makes you feel

alive — it is a combination of inspirational instructors, epic spaces, rocking music, dark rooms and candles, and the instructors who are pushing you to be the best version of yourself on and off the bike. FW: What’s next on the agenda for SoulCycle? JR: We just celebrated our nine-year anniversary,

and can’t believe that ten is just around the corner. We will definitely be planning a blowout 10-year celebration! FW: Have you considered venturing into other types of workouts, like barre or yoga? EC: Right now we are focused on bringing

SoulCycle to as many people around the country as we can. Last year we received thousands of requests to open studios across the world. FW: Favorite part of your job? EC: Dozens of riders come up

to us and tell us their personal SoulCycle journeys everyday. Hearing the ways SoulCycle has changed their relationships, careers, and lives is the best part of my job. FW: What inspires your retail collections? JR: We are inspired by

everything that is going on around us—including trends from the runway, festivals, and street style. We have a great team, who work fiercely year ’round to design and produce 14 collections a year.

Tysons Reinvented

T

he silver linings surrounding Metro’s Silver Line arrival to Tysons Corner just keep coming. Indeed, something stylish is always happening at Tysons these days, and we’re not just talking about the numerous fashion boutiques.

Tysons Corner Center is quickly becoming one of the most dynamic and accessible communities in the Washington area, thanks to the new look provided by the Silver Line and a ground-breaking expansion. The update includes a modern luxury hotel, a sparkling office tower, VITA luxury apartments, and several new restaurants. The centerpiece is The Plaza, an 1.5 acre elevated outdoor public space. The Plaza is the site of year-round activities and special events like movies, concerts and festivals. Of course, the true hub of it all is the twomillion-square-foot Tysons Corner Center shopping mall, which contains more than 200 retailers ranging from Apple to Zara. There are also dozens of dining outlets and 16 stateof-the-art movie theaters. THAT’S ENTERTAINMENT Peter Pan Live may have been a one-time event on NBC last year, but it’s a summer-long experience at Tysons. From June 24th through August 16th, an off-the-hook Peter Pan experience will be presented under a Cirque de Soleilstyle 100-foot-high tent. Premiering at Tysons Corner, the remarkable Peter Pan ThreeSixty Experience will be theaterin-the-round, with surround CGI projection providing a virtual reality Neverland. And yes, the actors will be flying around as well. Also on the entertainment docket is the weekly Fresh Artists Concert Series. From June 12 through August 7, there will be performances ranging from ballet and blues to poetry and pop. Last year, top acts like Andy Grammer and Alex and Sierra performed, and from all indications, the names will be even bigger this year. Gavin DeGraw is kicking off the series with a concert (plus fireworks) on June 11. Officially, it’s a private affair, but there is a charitable way to get in. Come to the Tysons Corner Center Concourse on June 4 between 9 and 10 AM with a shoebox. Make sure it’s filled with unopened,

travel-sized toiletries for the United Way Shoebox Project (unitedwaynca.org/pages/shoebox-project-2015). Those who donate the first 1000 boxes, which benefit community shelters, receive a ticket to the DeGraw performance. The concert series closes August 7 with a free show by The Legwarmers. General admission to the regular concert series is free. So are many events on The Plaza. Complimentary ongoing activities include Tysons Fit Club Classes powered by Crunch Fitness, yoga, and classic backyard games like cornhole and ping pong. Shake Shack hosts a monthly table tennis tournament, complete with prizes, the second Saturday afternoon of every month. The Plaza’s also the place for special events. Coming up soon: A Turkish Festival delights crowds on June 6 and 7. June 13th is Family Fun Day with a Peter Pan theme. On June 14th, it’s the Annual Burger Battle. The top chefs of Tysons “meat” and compete to determine who makes the best burger... and the public is the judge. Other events are listed at tysonscornercenter.com/events With so much to do, why not spend the night? The Hyatt Regency Tysons Corner Center, which opened in April, is a reflection of its glitzy surroundings. It’s modern, it’s vibrant, and it’s a hub of activity. The property is running several special packages, including the American Girl Experience and a Rise and Shine Bed and Breakfast deal. Room service for the hotel comes from Barrel & Bushel, the Hyatt’s contemporary American restaurant. But you don’t have to be a hotel guest to enjoy Barrel & Bushel’s unique dishes made with fresh, locally-sourced ingredients. The barrel-forward restaurant has 22 beers on tap and a selection of 30 bourbons. Other 2015 additions to the Tysons dining scene include Eddie V’s, which opened in April, and Earl’s Kitchen + Bar, coming this fall.
