faslife NO. 1 AUTUMN PREVIEW 2010

editor’s letter (THEINTRO)

Welcome to the premiere issue of Faslife magazine. after years of daydreaming about having my very own publication in honor of the vision that is fashion, i finally made the effort to make what was once a dream a reality. words cannot express how blessed and grateful i am to see this vision come to life. Fashion and the spirit of design is something that flows through me as natural as an apple is to an eye.

faslife NO. 1 AUTUMN PREVIEW 2010

FASlife magazine: There are a million + 1 professions out there--why styling? olivia crouppen: Because to me style is a reflection of "the times", and there's really nothing more interesting than now. FAS: Ok, understandable... So, how did you get your start? OC: Fashion has always been my thing. I taught sewing classed at Jo-ann Fabrics in high school then went on to study fashion design. It was only once i was in school for design that i realized what i really wanted to be doing was styling. I took a leave and got a number of internships that got me no where, so when i felt i had no where else to turn, i decide to check out good old craigslist. I came across a listing on for a celebrity stylist that needed an assistant so i set up an interview and the rest was history. FAS: Talk about a fairytale! That’s something you can surely tell your future grandkids. (We both Laugh) FAS: So, on to the next question... As we’re all aware, The fashion industry is like a revolving door--one minute you're in & the next minute you're out; Do you feel pressure as a stylist to stay as relevant as the designers you include in your shoots? OC: Yes, & no. The truth is, there's nothing new under the sun, as long as I'm making something i feel relevant. Of course i feel some pressure to keep up with what's out there. I am constantly looking for new designers, magazines, blogs...but i think i would do that even if i wasn't a stylist. FAS: Do you feel you need to have a 'knack' for styling, or is it something you feel anyone can learn. [Why/Why not?] OC: Honestly, i think it's something you either have or you don't. You know how some people just can't cook. It's like that.. FAS: It's the year 2012...where are you? OC: EVERYWHERE! FAS: What's the first thing/person that comes to mind when you hear, 'Fashion Icon'? OC: Wow, i want to say Lady Gaga.. But seriously Alexander McQueen. FAS: In your opinion, what’s the current or next trend? faslife OC: oddity is more "in" than ever.

THE DESIGNER 1020 by nicole

COLLECTION fall/winter 2010

It’s bold. It’s red (a color that you can never go wrong with). It’s fiery, yet classy and hip. Just like this magazine. The cherry on top of the cake is the Extended zipper at the wrists in case you want to ‘roll up’ your sleeves without actually rolling them. Oh, and that’s not all. The nifty Black blocks of contrasting fabric could make even the most tomboyish woman look like she has the shoulders of a Zoe Saldana. To get your hands on one, Check out our Credits section.
