UNIQLO AND LEMAIRE UNIQLO and Lemaire have come together to offer timeless elegance to everyday essentials that are made of the most carefully selected materials. The collection brings a sense of refined yet friendly confidenceto pieces that you can wear everyday and on any occasion. This is LifeWear elevated with style that fully
respects the individual. Uniqlo’s known for affordable, minimalist basics but the Japanese retailer definitely has been making a quiet name for itself as the go-to for designer collaborations with mature, slightly surprising fashion heavyweights like Carine Roitfeld, Suno, Jil Sander, French model-
muse Inès de la Fressange, and Helmut Lang. It’s latest offering: A range with streamlined, super-luxe basics label Lemaire, which was announced in March. While the brand might not be quite as recognizable as other figures who’ve teamed up with Uniqlo (or other fast-fashion retailers, for that matter), it’s

the one that has the fashion world buzzing, thanks largely to the fact that its designer, Christophe Lemaire, was the former creative director at HermĂŠs, and since launching his own label in 2011 has developed a high-fashion fanbase thanks to his coveted essentials with a minimalist benta perfect fit for Uniqlo and
its core clientele. "Lemaire is not a luxury brand," he said of the duo's new label. "We try to do qualitative garments that will last. In this sense, that is also what Uniqlo is doing. Uniqlo challenges our conscientiousness as designers because we know we will dress many different
people across the world, and therefore we have to be very attentive to proportions and style. It has to fit everybody's lifestyle and morphology without compromising the style. This is a very interesting exercise."

MERINO 3D KINT
Marking the third official collection from the Uniqlo U design team at the Uniqlo Paris Research & Development Center, this range aims to "make clothing an ideal expression of its wearer," with items catered to both men and women alongside accessories. we caught a glimpse of a few standout pieces from the collection, including a vivid

red, seamless Merino dress with a mock neck. The beauty of it lies in its fluid silhouette— the ribbing of its A-line form follows the body contours in a flattering manner. This dress was created with 3D U-Knit, a new form of three-dimensional knitting technique employed by Uniqlo in a joint venture with Shima Seiki Mfg., a leading Japanese manufacturer of knitting machines.

There are certain things that 3D machines can only produce, including draping and A-line silhouettes. But when we are talking about creating a perfect knit, using 3D is almost a must.

The styling for this season emphasizes volume through dolman sleeves for women’s fleece blousons and boxy silhouettes for men’s fleece jackets. All the pieces, including the fleece jacket, come in mainly neutral colours, and are inspired by
the "drive to make clothing an ideal expression of its wearer." Essentially, Uniqlo has reinvented wardrobe basics. Along with the fleece, I've picked eight other pieces I can't wait to get my hands on.

MERINO
One of the futuristic promises of 3D printing in fashion was that one day the technology would allow you to walk into a store, give the staff your measurements, and walk out with a garment made on the spot, just for you. We’re not there yet, but the scenario is becoming a reality for 3D knitting, a cousin of 3D printing that uses yarn to
produce a complete, threedimensional item. Rather than the stiff plastic product created by a 3D printer—good for sneakers, less so for clothes— it produces sweaters, jackets, and anything else you could knit.
