Sheh Kai Concrete Drill Bit

by Nai-Wen Chang, Fastener World

Accredited by PGM from Germany Drilling Speed up 30% & Durability up 10 Folds

he SDS-Plus ser ies a nd 3- C ut t er /4 - C ut t er SDSMax series concrete drill bits are the latest creation from Sheh Kai Precision which utilize full-body tungsten carbide design for the drill head and replace the conventional insertion welding method with butt-welding technique; therefore, t h e y g a i n m u c h b e t t e r we a r resista nce, fast chip removal, st e a dy p osit ion i ng, a n d h ig h roundness among other excellent performance. Af ter 3 years of research and development, Sheh Kai’s team developed a specially designed tungsten carbide drill bit which reduces the bit’s jiggling in contact with reinforced concrete and significantly increases users’ safety and comfort.

Special Butt-welding Technique Professional High-strength Concrete Drill Bits with International Quality Guarantee & Impact-resistant Design The newly-designed SDS-Plus and SDSMax series concrete drill bits are tailored to high-strength reinforced concrete. Their special tungsten carbide material tackles users’ problems regarding chip removal, positioning, jiggling and so on once and for all and improves work efficiency. The buttwelding design makes tungsten carbide drill bits more rigid and enables unobstructed passage into reinforced concrete. The new bits have three to ten times longer service life than conventional ones. They reduce the time of bits change and costs, making onsite construction easier and smoother. Therefore, they are concrete drill bits of medium to high cost–performance ratio available on the market.

The drill bits from Sheh Kai sweeps the market of Japan, Australia, the U.S. and Europe with a global sales record of over 3 million pieces. They are certified to PGM (by Masonry Drill Bit Certification Board), ISO9001 and ISO1400. A renowned wafer company purchased 100 pieces of SDS-Plus concrete drill bits from Sheh Kai for plant construction and were surprised to find that the whole plant only used 37 pieces of the drill bits. “The constructors of the plant exclaimed in wonder! The drill bits are unimaginably much more durable than other construction drill bits!” General Manager Mr. Andy Lin said SDS-Plus concrete drill bits are designed to be impact-resistant and have high precision and roundness. Their quality criteria is to be able to drill 200 holes on concrete of above 10,000 Psi grade with less than 0.1mm of abrasion depth.

Excellent Manufacturing Technique & Care for User Experience

Having mature welding technique and heat treatment, Sheh Kai tries various ways to develop drill bits. The company hears the voice of end users on site and takes 3 years to develop SDS-Plus concrete drill bits. Sheh Kai is adept at welding and flexible use of metal materials. It has established an R&D team which is currently developing more drill products. Sheh Kai is also recruiting sales representatives and strategic partners for its target markets, hoping to develop more products in the power tools accesories field that will satisfy end users.

The product is composed of a round base (various diameter available) and a hexagon shaped base above the foot. These new adjustable feet have been introduced to the market at the beginning of February 2019. This new range of adjustable feet is fully in Nylon, both the threaded part and the feet, contrary to the levelling feet usually available on the market that are more of a mix between metal and plastic. In comparison with the metal-plastic combined products, Nylon offers various advantages; it is lighter, cheaper, and easier to recycle. It does not conduct electricity and is also not subject to corrosion. Polyamide thus allows the use of our “adjustable feet SF” in areas subject to corrosion which, for reasons of hygiene or for specific regulations, require materials resistant to it.

The Brexit Mist Forcing Carmakers and Parts Suppliers to Re-evaluate Production in UK

According to Nikkan (Japanese news provider), the forthcoming Brexit deadline is making carmakers re-consider their production in UK. If it turns out to be a No Deal, the tariff between UK and EU would re-emerge and cast a catastrophic change on the business environment. Nissan said to possibly revoke its production plan for the next SUV model, and Honda said it is likely to move its production out of UK after 2023. Following the carmakers, more and more automotive parts suppliers have started reconsidering.

So far it is still zero tariff between UK and EU, but if the end result is a No Deal, WTO’s rules will come into play and cast tariff on automotive parts, increasing the cost for makers. Honda will end its production in UK by 2021, and while it said this decision did not pertain to Brexit, it is observable that Brexit could have been a factor. BMW is considering to move the production of the “Mini” model to the Netherlands. Furthermore, the president of Piolax, a Japanese automotive fastener maker, said “it is difficult to invest in UK plants”, and he has begun to consider subcontracting partial production in UK to collaborative companies.

Hilti DX-9 / Powder-actuated Nail Gun The DX 9 is a powder-actuated fastening tool used for fixing metal decking to steel beams. The ergonomics and a self-explanatory form were central to the design development. While the upright working position reduces strain on the operator’s back, the handle minimizes stress on wrists, elbows, and shoulders caused by recoil. Direct fastening is five times faster than traditional jointing methods, such as welding, and it also avoids toxic fumes. A simple display integrated into the handle shows the operator in real time when the tool needs maintenance, helping to prevent unplanned downtime.

BOSCH IXO 6 / Cordless Screwdriver IXO, the world’s best-selling power tool, is now even more intuitive and reliable thanks to the “furniture-protect” trigger. The new generation of this compact cordless screwdriver gives you the full control in every screw driving application through variable speed control. The more you push the trigger, the faster you go. No more damaged screws, no more splintered wood, for the perfect worry-free DIY experience. The iconic, reduced design underlines the product’s intuitiveness and approachability and brings the screwdriver out of the toolbox into the living environment.

William Tools Screen Slipping T-Handle Torque / Hand Tool The Screen Slipping T-handle Torque screwdriver is made from high-tensile metal and eco-friendly materials. It is factory-calibrated to +/-4% and a new mechanism ensures that accuracy is retained for longer. Every wrench is supplied with a calibration certificate to satisfy the requirements of ISO 6789:2017 and ISO 9227(NSS). The core features of the product are a numeric screen display making it easy to read the torque value, an ergonomic grip that offers a better feel than other brands, and an alloy steel pawl which reinforces product stability and reliability.

SW-Stahl Ratchet / Reversible Ratchet The reversible ratchet from SW-Stahl impresses with its well-balanced design and ergonomic handling. Defined contours, a slim shape and a high-grade finish result in a professional and dynamic overall appearance. The smart details simplify the usage of the reversible ratchet for a smooth workflow: labels on the ratchets head show the direction of rotation, a flattened hole allows an easy mounting and the ergonomically designed handle enables optimal power transmission.

According to the latest statistic s of International Organization of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers (OICA), the global car production amounted to 95,706,293 units in 2018. Compared to the figure of 2017 (recorded at 96,746,802 units), it showed a slight drop of 1.1%. To view by region, Europe shared 21,333,651 units of production in 2018, down 1.4% from 21,634,302 units in 2017; Americas shared 20,800,328 units, a bit down 0.4% from 20,714,030 units in 2017; AsiaOceania shared 52,449,078 units, down 1.8% from 53,395,211 units in 2017; Africa shared 1,123,236 units, a significant 12.0% increase from 1,003,259 units in 2017. Africa was also the only region in the world showing a two-digit year-onyear growth.

Europe Stagnant Capacity in W. Europe, But Fast Growth in E. Europe Germany, Spain, France and the UK have usually been considered the car manufacturing heartlands in Europe; however, the combined performance of these four countries in 2018 does not seem as good as it was before. Although the sum of the annual production of these four countries still represented more than 50% of the Europe’s total, only France showed a slight 2.0% increase from year 2017 and the other countries (Germany/ Spain/the UK) reported a decline within the range of 1-10%. The decline margin of Germany or the UK was even higher than that of Europe, reaching -9.3% and -8.3% respectively. What’s worth mentioning is that the production of Italy, typically considered one of the main car manufacturing countries in Europe, not only has been outperformed by those of Czech Rep. and Slovakia, but also appeared a slump of 7.2% if compared to the data of 2017. Countries showing significant growths were mainly located in E. Europe, such as Slovakia, Romania, Hungary and Slovenia. Their growth margins were within the range of 5.6%-31.1%. To view from the pan-Europe perspective, countries showing the top 3 growth margins were: Austria (69.7%), Portugal (67.7%) and Romania (31.1%).

America YoY Ratio of N. America’s Production Dragged Down to Negative by Canada, While Brazil Reported Far-Above-the-Average Growth The production of America in 2018 did not show a very significant change. Its YoY ratio was only 1%. The YoY ratios of USA and Mexico were within the range of 0%-1%. However, due to the -7.9% drop of Canada, the combined performance of USA/Canada/Mexico was down 0.2% to 17,436,070 units. Nevertheless, the sum of the production in these three countries still represented more than 80% of the America’s total.

South America, different from its counterpart in N. America, showed a more remarkable production growth margin in 2018, reporting a 4.0% YoY ratio and reaching 3,364,258 units. Main car manufacturing countries in this region were Brazil, Argentina and Colombia. Brazil, in particular, reported a 5.2 YoY ratio (better than the performance of S. America). The production of Brazil even represented more than 85% of S. America’s total, leaving Argentina (the 2nd place) and Colombia (the 3rd place) far behind. Brazil was the country showing the highest YoY ratio in 2018 and Canada was the country showing the worst YoY ratio in the same year.

Asia-Oceania YoY Ratios of China and S. Korea were Down, But Remained on Top of the List The production of Asia-Oceania in 2018 remained above the 50 million units level as it was in 2017. Although the production in this region was higher than the combined production in Europe and America, it was still down 1.8% from 2017 and its margin of change was more significant than those of Europe and America. Top 5 car manufacturing countries were: China, Japan, India, S. Korea and Thailand. China represented more than 50% of the total production in this region. In 2018, except for China and S. Korea showing -4.2% and -2.1% growths respectively, the growths of the other 3 leading countries were all positive and the growths of India and Thailand were even close to 10%. Countries in this region showing dropping production were China, Iran, and Taiwan. Iran and Taiwan even reported two-digit declines. On the other hand, India, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia and Pakistan, where major car manufacturers strengthened their investments, all showed growths of around 10% in 2018. However, Vietnam, usually considered one of the hotspots for FDIs, only reported a 0.2% growth.

Except for Ukraine showing a significant drop of 22.9%, Russia and other former CIS countries all reported two-digit growths. The region’s largest car manufacturing country, Russia, showed a 13.9% YoY ratio and Belarus even showed a growth margin of up to 73.0%. However, more than 90% of the production in this region was contributed by Russia. Turkey has a different story, however. In 2018, its annual production reached around 1.55 million units, down 8.6% from the same period in 2017. Turkey originally took the lead in 2017 until Russia outpaced it in 2018.

Industry Focus >> Morocco Demonstrated Further Growth Potential and South Africa Kept Moderate Growth South Africa and Morocco are the two largest car manufacturing countries in Africa. In 2018, 610,854 units of cars and 402,085 units of cars were respectively produced in South Africa and Morocco. The total production of these two countries reached more than a million units. To generalize the performance of the top 5 countries in this region, except for Tunisia showing a decline of 8.0% in 2018, other countries all showed positive growths. The production of Morocco in 2018 not only became closer to that of South Africa, its YoY ratio in the same year was even 5 times that of South Africa. In addition, though the production of Egypt was much less than those of other countries in the region, its production in 2018 was still nearly doubled from the record in 2017.

With the trade tension escalation between the U.S. and China starting in 2018, the promotion of carbon emission reduction policies for new vehicles in Europe and America, and the conditions in the Middle East, the global market continues to be filled with gloom and uncertainties, which indirectly makes investors become more cautious about their investments or determine to temporarily halt their projects. The interplay of these factors may influence the will of leading car manufacturers to make investments. In order to diversify the potential risk, some investors may consider moving to other emerging markets which are not involved in the disputes amongst the economic and political powers and have their products assembled there. This may be why the performance in some emerging markets was comparatively better than that in some developed countries. These emerging markets are rich in natural resources, able to offer sufficient & inexpensive labor force, and enjoy more favorable tariff rates, so they have recently become the key focal points in the global automotive market. Although Europe, USA, and China still take the lion’s share altogether in the global car sales, the growth rates in these emerging markets were still far above the level of other major car manufacturing countries which reported almost stagnant growths in the same year.

中國緊固工具市場概況分析

Overview of China’s Fastening Tools Market by Behrooz Lotfian

In this article, we will study the trade statistics of fastening tools in China based on the following HS Codes. • HS code 8205: Hand tools, incl. glaziers' diamonds, of base metal, n.e.s.; blowlamps and the like; vices, clamps and the like (other than accessories for and parts of, machine tools); anvils; portable forges; hand-operated or pedal-operated grinding wheels with frameworks. • HS Code 8207: Tools, interchangeable, for hand tools, whether or not power-operated, or for machine tools "e.g. for pressing, stamping, punching, tapping, threading, drilling, boring, broaching, milling, turning or screw driving", incl. dies for drawing or extruding metal, and rock-drilling or earth-boring tools.

Export The export value of China in these two categories is over 6.2 billion USD. China is one of the main suppliers of fastening tooling in the world. The main market for China-made tools is USA, and Germany is ranked as the 2nd biggest market for Chinese tools. The right graph proves that China is the main supplier of tools in the world, and its tools are not exported to a specific market except for USA. •

USA is the biggest buyer of Chinese tools. It bought 22.2% to 24.4% of Chinese exported tools. The graph reveals that tools exported from China to USA have a positive trend, but based on increased entrance goods tax from China to USA, it is predictable that this market share will drop in 2019.

Germany as the 2nd biggest Chinese tools buyer has a notable distance with USA. It bought tools 5.5 times less than USA.

Other countries including more than 190 countries bought about 70% of Chinese tools.

Import The import value of China in these two categories is 1.8 billion USD. It means Chinese market is a notable market for tools, too. However, the following table shows that •

China is an independent country in terms of HS Code 8205, as in this category its export is more than 20 times bigger than its import.

In terms of HS Code 8207, China’s export is 2 times bigger than its import. In a classic analysis, it means that China is an independent country in this category, too, but the 1.8 billion USD import value is also a huge amount that makes China’s market notable for the tooling exporters.

Germany is the main partner of China in the import of 8205 and 8207, while USA and Japan are ranked in the 2nd places respectively in 8205 and 8027. However, Japan’s tools export value is 20 times higher than that of the US.

Industry Focus >>

The graph below reveals that Germany could increase its share in China’s tools import. Although it started with 17.3% in 2014, it reached 26.0% in 2018. Japan also recorded 26.2% in 2016, but its export decreased in 2017 and fell behind Germany in 2018.

These two countries (Japan and Germany) satisfied 50% of required tools in China, and the remaining 50% was satisfied by other 200 countries. In this case, we can assume that these two countries are China's major partners and it means that Chinese suppliers have focused on products of these two countries.

Industry Focus >> What will Happen in 2019? USA has started a trade war with China by increasing the tariffs, and China as one of the biggest tools producers is being affected. It is very normal that China starts to strengthen its relationship with the other major economies like Germany and Japan. On the other hand, countries in the West have a good relationship with the US and they will be afraid of working with China because of US penalty, and therefore, the relations between Germany and USA, Japan and USA make this equilibrium (ChinaJapan and China–Germany) complicated.

U.S. Import and Export of Hand Tools - Q1 2019

Have the Recent Changes on Steel Tariffs Impacted the US Market of Hand Tools? Major US steel importers have faced continuous challenges over the last year due to fluctuating tariffs on Chinese imports. The increase on Chinese tariffs have impacted the cost of all the raw materials that are being imported into the US for manufacturing, but have also impacted the cost of imported hand tools. Who is the US Exporting Hand Tools to? Canada and Mexico remain the two largest US trading partners in terms of hand tool exports. US exports of hand tools to Canada increased in Q1 of 2019 by $189,884, while exports to Mexico increased by $4,966,169 during Q1 of 2019. US exports of hand tools to Germany and Japan decreased in Q1 of 2019 by comparison to Q1 of 2018. While China may be the number one trading partner for US imports of hand tools, it ranks as the 6th largest trading partner for US exports of hand tool. US exports to China decreased by nearly 20% in Q1 of 2019 when compared to Q1 of 2018. Similarly, US exports to South Korea also showed a decrease in Q1 of 2019 by 26%.

The Future of US Imports and Exports of Hand Tools The geopolitical climate has shown to be very unstable with the current US administration, particularly when it comes to trade. Considering the first quarter of 2019, US imports of hand tools seem to have increased by $55,619,727 while US exports of hand tools have decreased by $1,906,869. The future of hand tool imports and exports is unpredictable judging from the recent instability of steel tariffs. If tariffs continue to increase for China imports to the US, or if high tariffs begin to appear for another one of the major US trading partners, US importers will need to reconsider their foreign suppliers. Only time will tell if tariff changes will impact the hand tool market in the US.
