Thank you for considering Rockley College for the next stage of your educational journey. We have a long established reputation for delivering excellent training and education with a unique learning and teaching experience that will push you to achieve things you never thought were possible! Based at Rockley Point in Poole, our sixth form courses are thriving with over 100 full time learners each year choosing to study with us. Our unique outdoor adventure programmes offer students a truly vocational learning experience which embeds work experience and extra qualifications. Learners develop the knowledge, behaviours and skills to succeed both at sixth form and beyond, with direct skills and qualifications for employment and also the entry requirements to progress on to university.
With students working all over the world in watersports and the outdoors or studying at university, we are really proud of the courses we offer. Our experienced and dedicated staff are focused on helping each student progress in their future in sport and outdoor adventure.

All our sixth form courses are based at our Rockley Point Centre in Poole. As a working watersports centre, sixth form with us feels different to a traditional school environment. With excellent facilities and equipment, your new campus is right on the beach and where you will have the opportunity to gain all your practical water-based training.
Located in the beautiful Isle of Purbeck and the Jurassic Coast, Buddens boasts 96 acres of natural countryside, heathland, woodland and plantation. Here, you will develop skills in a vast range of land-based activities.
Based at Poole Park Lake, students get the opportunity to develop their new skills here and experience working alongside our staff for several events we run here throughout their course.

Our two-year Level 3 Extended Diploma features 18 dynamic units, offering in-depth skills for the Sports and Outdoor Adventure Industry. Equivalent to 3 A-Levels, it carries UCAS points for university progression. Enjoy a practical, coursework-only curriculum with handson learning and real-world assessments.

WINDSURFING - Dive into the exhilarating world of windsurfing! Learn the fundamentals, from balancing on the board to mastering the sail. Develop your skills and techniques, progressing from beginner to expert. Experience the thrill of harnessing the wind and gliding across the water.
SAILING - Set sail on an adventure with our comprehensive sailing programme. Start with the basics and gradually build your skills, mastering techniques to handle various wind and water conditions. Enjoy the freedom and excitement of navigating the open waters.
PADDLESPORTS - Explore the excitement of paddlesports, including paddleboarding, kayaking and canoeing. Begin with essential skills and safety techniques, then advance to navigating challenging waters. Embrace the adventure and challenge of paddling through beautiful, dynamic environments.

At Rockley, we believe in learning by doing. Our comprehensive work experience programme is designed to immerse you in practical, hands-on activities that reinforce your classroom learning.
Throughout your course, you will work alongside our skilled, qualified instructors, applying your knowledge in real-world settings. Each student completes a summer term placement at one of our three Dorset-based centres, gaining invaluable industry experience. This practical exposure not only enhances your skills but also significantly boosts your employability and readiness for a successful career in the outdoor industry.

Instructor Apprenticeship offers hands-on training and education, designed to kickstart your career in the outdoor industry. As an apprentice, you’ll actively participate in running our activity centres and be fully trained in operational procedures and activity delivery.
Sailing, windsurfing, paddleboarding, canoeing, kayaking, powerboating, raft building, high/low ropes, climbing, mountain biking, walking, orienteering, archery, team building, and expeditions.

You’ll also work towards National Governing Body and in-house qualifications, preparing you for a successful career in the outdoor industry.

Whether you love sports on the water or land - we’ve got it covered! Thanks to our fantastic range of locations, our excellent facilities and the standard of training we provide, you will have the opportunity to develop skills in a sport you already love as well as developing new passions.
Our FREE optional training programme allows you to up-skill and work towards a range of National Governing Body and inhouse qualifications in both water and land based activities.
We believe in applying learning and we do this by getting on the water, getting outside and by doing. Visits include: Our sister site - Buddens Activity Centre in the Purbecks, surf weekend to Devon, walking expeditions and a ski trip.
We strongly believe in our students learning through doing and they can work alongside our instructors throughout the course. All students also complete a period of work experience in the summer term with placements across our three UK centres.
Our courses are entirely coursework-based with no exams. Immerse yourself in practical, real-world situations that complement classroom learning, enhancing your understanding of the outdoor industry.
All our classroom lectures and water-based practical teaching take place at our Rockley Point campus on the beach! With excellent facilities and equipment and direct access to the beach, this truly is a unique college environment.

At Rockley, we believe in bringing learning to life through exciting trips and adventures. Our students regularly explore beautiful Dorset, engaging in activities like sailing, paddleboarding, walking and mountain biking. Each year we offer numerous exciting and active trips, including coasteering, water parks, walking and mountain biking expeditions, skiing, snowboarding, and surfing.
These trips provide invaluable hands-on learning, fostering teamwork, leadership, and resilience. With regular excursions as part of the adventure, there’s always something new and exciting to experience.
Continue your studies to Higher Education. Successful completion of your programme will provide you with the option to apply for university. As part of your weekly tutorials you will receive support and guidance with your application.
Antonia graduated from Rockley College with Distinction* as well as her Paddlesport and RYA Windsurf Instructor qualifications. She will be starting her chiropractic degree at the AECC University in September.

From college student to Guest Experience Manager at Buddens Activity Centre, Jo is now a full-time employee at Rockley. Jo graduated in 2019 and has been with us ever since, working across all our centres. She has gained a plethora of skills and qualifications and loves her managerial role at Rockley’s largest UK based centre, Buddens.

Combine further study with employment. Upon completion of your course you will be eligible to apply for an apprenticeship within the sports and leisure industry.
Like so many of our students post GCSEs, Nathaniel could not envisage himself sitting in a classroom all day, every day and was looking for something more vocational. After graduating from Rockley’s Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport (Outdoor Adventure) course, he immediately applied for the Apprenticeship programme and has thrived! Bournemouth and Poole College is proud to be the largest provider of Further Education (FE) and Apprenticeships in the area, delivering over 30 different apprenticeship options across 10 sectors, right up to Degree level. We work with major local businesses, with the percentage of apprentices that successfully complete their course with us well above the national average.

We’re constantly investing in new facilities across our College sites; with investments in a Marine Technology Centre, Digital Learning Environments, upgraded Engineering facilities and the construction of a new four-storey building at our Bournemouth campus. LEAF Studio in Bournemouth offers a bespoke education for 13–18 year olds, specialising in Sport and Performing Arts. In addition to our onsite secondary school and sixth form, we are proudly partnered with three education partnership sites, one of which being Rockley College.

After you have collected your GCSE results, come and see us to enrol on to your course. This is where you will formally register for your course.

Your interview will take place at our Rockley Point campus. If you are successful, you will receive an offer letter. This will be a conditional offer.

Our main application window begins in September. You are able to apply for our courses all year, however we do advise you to apply as early as possible.

WHAT PASTORAL CARE IS AVAILABLE?
At Rockley College, we take pastoral care seriously. All staff are safeguarding trained, and we have dedicated mental health first aiders on site. Our staff members are not just instructors but also role models and mentors, providing guidance and support throughout your college journey. Each student is assigned a Personal Tutor who offers individualised support and advice. We are committed to ensuring you have the help you need to succeed both academically and personally, fostering a supportive and nurturing environment for all our students.
HOW DO I GET TO COLLEGE?
Most students travel by train to Hamworthy Station. Local students often cycle, car share, walk or use scooters/skateboards.
WHAT KIND OF KIT DO I NEED?
Essential items include a wetsuit, waterproof coat, walking boots, and standard classroom supplies. A Laptop is essential. We can provide guidance on selecting your kit.
IS THERE PARKING?
Yes, parking is available. We encourage car sharing to ease parking pressure and reduce environmental impact.
WHAT IS A TYPICAL COLLEGE DAY LIKE?
Lessons usually start around 9am and end around 4pm although this does vary depending on the timetable and activities.
WHAT CATERING FACILITIES ARE AVAILABLE?
Harbour’s Edge café on campus offers a range of food and drink options, making it a favourite spot for students.
