REVIEW Spring 2014 Design IV - Materials and Making Instructor: Daniel Butko
REVIEW Design-Build Window Display
The project was design/build focusing on incorporation material into the design process. We were to construct a modular window display that contains a scale model, a project description drawing, and a digital display. The project was designed and built by the group members: Fatima Alabdullah, Jianhao (Richard) Li, Conor McMichael, and Nikki Self. THE DESIGN Shape The shape was created to mimic the optical illusion of the impossible box, which takes the shape of a cube that overlaps itself, with simple shapes using two different colored and sized boxes overlapping. Materials Wood and metal were chosen to Juxtapose each other. Wood has warm, natural tones that seemed to be the easiest to juxtapose with other materials and the strongest contrast seemed to be metal which has a harsher tone.

LUMINOUS Spring 2014 Design IV - Materials and Making Instructor: Daniel Butko Location: Oklahoma City
LUMINOUS Artist Studio Gallery and Production Showroom Location: Oklahoma City
The project was to design an artist studio/gallery and production showroom in in the historic Bricktown district in downtown Oklahoma City. The design process was started by choosing three types of precedents, one building, a word or an object, and an artist. Building: Steven Holl’s addition to the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City, MO. Word: Glass Artist: Robert Irwin THE DESIGN All three precedents share the quality of light between them. Whether it is the translucent brick used in the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art that brings light in and out of the building, glass that is used to control lighting in architecture, and the art work of Robert Irwin that is focused on natural and artificial light. Since this was an infill project, the lighting sources were very limited. Therefore to maximize the light that enters, the building the front facade was designed to be a curtain wall in addition to the space for the studio having a skylight. The back of the building was kept with minimal to no windows allowing the space to adapt with the art that will be displayed, which is in this case some of which are lighting displays by the artist.

PASSAGE Spring 2014 Design V - Architectural Making I Instructor: Stephanie Pilat Location: Warr Acres, OK
PASSAGE Monastery Design Location: Warr Acres, OK
The project was to design a monastery of any religion with the selection of a specific denomination with the focus on the spiritual and sensible side of the design. THE DESIGN The design of the monastery is mainly focused on the separation of public and private space. Private The private space is where the monks live and practice their daily lives. Public The public space is where the visitors of the chapel will be. The two spaces are separated by the creek that is in between. The path that connects the building of the classroom and cell with the chapel is designed to make the person pass through and experience the feelings of peace and calmness. This is expressed by making the size of the pathway fitting a single person only, having some trees that cover the path without obstructing the surrounding views, and also having a bridge that crosses over the creek to enjoy the calming sound of the water. This pathway is crossed by the monks three times a day as they head to the chapel to perform the daily services.

SOUND Fall 2016 Design VII - Systems and Context Instructor: Anthony Cricchio Location: Norman-Moore, OK
HISTORY OF TREE GROWTH ON SITE
SOUND Visitors Center Location: Norman-Moore, OK
SITE PLAN The project was to design a visitors center along I-35 on the Norman / Moore border that uses “a thoroughly integrated approach to architecture, natural systems, and technology to provide architectural solutions that protect and enhance the environment (COTE). This was an entry into the AIA COTE 2016-2017 Student Design Competition. THE DESIGN The design was based on the idea of a sound experience. Documenting the site visit, one of the most memorable impressions that was recorded were the sounds that were experienced on site. Therefore, the development of a sound experience on site was created. As a person walks through they can have a sound experience by circulation that is lower and higher than ground level to experience the different types of sounds that can be heard. The visitors center is divide into two building, the gallery, and the educational building. Gallery Building The gallery building consists of a flexible exhibition space on the first floor and in the basement, is a space that is FEMA shelter criteria which can also be used as exhibition space the rest of the year. Education Building The second building is the education building. There is a meeting room for business purposes and two flexible spaces (workshop/ classroom). On the basement level of this building there is a living-creating space that is used for artists to temporarily stay and work on the art that they want to display in the gallery space.

SOVA Fall 2017 Design IX - Comprehensive Architecture I Instructor: Anthony Cricchio Location: Norman, OK
SOVA Renovation School of Visual Arts - OU Location: Norman, OK
The Project was to renovate a portion of the School of Visual Arts at The University of Oklahoma. The work was done in collaboration with graphic design students to create a wayfinding system alongside the new design. Group members: Qianny Lu, Torrey Parker, Anika Saynyarack, Fatima Alabdullah. PROBLEM The OU School of Visual Arts does not have a clear wayfinding system to help newcomers such as prospective students, faculty members, or art donors navigate the exterior and interior of the building. The current space does not feel welcoming and does not showcase for what the primary function of what the school does. GOALS 1. To show clear direction, navigations and circulations 2. To create a new, memorable experience for those entering in and out of the building 3. To have more open spaces for hosting special events and critiques 4. To showcase student work 5. To bring in more sponsors, visitors, and prospective students CONCEPT STATEMENT Our goal is to mirror and celebrate the journey that students take to finding their identity within the art school by showing it in the school itself. We would like to provide a blank canvas and create ways for students to showcase work and make it a more interactive, bright, and lively space.

BATEEL Compitition Entry Water Sports Complex Location: Kuwait
After conducting extensive research regarding the topic of architectural competitions, we were given the choice to participate in our choice of an architectural competition. As a group (Fatima Alabdullah /Emily Adams/Anika Saynyarack) the decision was made to submit as entry for Helma. HELMA© 2017 - 2018, Architectural Design Award is a project organized and managed by Balsam International (BI) proudly backed by Al Diwan Al Amiri in collaboration with other key strategic partners. HELMA is offered to honour young practicing architects and academics from all levels i.e. Student, Fresh graduates and Amateur creative in and around the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) for the Arab Gulf States and the world.

PEACE Spring 2018 Design X - Comprehensive Architecture II Instructor: Tiziana Proietti Location: Sand Springs, OK
PEACE Meditation Retreat Center New Design Location: Sand Springs, OK
The Project was to create a new design for The Osage Forest of Peace located in Sand Springs, Oklahoma. Generate a creative design solution for a micro-dwelling and a master plan to accommodate various spiritual and routine activities for a resident or short term visitor of the Forest. The Osage Forest of Peace is an inter-spiritual contemplative retreat center, providing sacred space for individual retreats, group retreats, or a day of respite from the busy world.
CONCEPT DRAWING
THE DESIGN Based on the meetings with the permanent residents of the center and board members, the design concept was chosen to focus on the celebration of the forest and all of its natural elements by: • Creating a site plan with no pathways. Having framing devices on site to enjoy the surrounding forest views. • Designing pavilions that will act as guides around the site. this will be used instead of paved walkways. • Increase the forest views from inside the buildings.
