It’s important to keep in mind that we get to offer a Mary Kay business. Then, let go of the result. We offer fun guest events like bingo and extra hydration sessions to layer the prospects so we can all get better acquainted. We ask prospective team members to watch a video of personal stories, (such as It Just Fits™videos) and then we ask for feedback. The call would go something like this: I would ask questions about her if I didn’t know her. Then ask what questions she has about a Mary Kay business. What would be her reason if she were to do something like Mary Kay? Then, I share what getting started would look like and ask if she’s ready. To develop Reds in my unit, we offer a personalized red jacket hanger as a prize, and we do a Red debut that is very special. On Zoom, our Reds have red pom-poms to cheer. To help a new Independent Beauty Consultant start thinking about moving into Red, we offer the Pearls of Sharing jewelry. It’s there that she learns the skill of team-building and how to identify potential team members. usebia started her Mary Kay business in September 1994. She worked cleaning houses during the

day while attending college at night for her business administration degree. When Catalina, her sister-in-law and Independent Beauty Consultant, offered Eusebia a facial to help her address her many skin imperfections, Eusebia asked about the income potential of a Mary Kay business. “Catalina told me I could earn up to 50% profit on products I sold to my customers at suggested retail, and that what I earned was up to me and how much I could sell. My husband, Pedro Marte, encouraged me to start a Mary Kay business. The facial was a fantastic experience for me, and it was love at first sight! My immediate focus then (and now) is skin care, something I am passionate about. Within a year, I had earned the use of a Mary Kay Career Car, and I debuted as an Independent Sales Director in October 2001.” Eusebia has since continued to be in the top 1% of Mary Kay independent sales force members, and she has earned the use of 15 Mary Kay Career Cars. She has continued to be her own boss and work her Mary Kay business on her own terms.

STAY FOCUSED. TAKE ACTION. In 2008, Eusebia had just earned the use of a pink Cadillac, and life was going great. But robbers came into her house, tied her up and stole many of her valuables. “After that, I was afraid to be in my house alone. I would drive my daughter Laurie to school, and then I would focus on my Mary Kay business outside of my house. I’d be home on time to cook lunch for my husband and myself, and after he went back to work, I would, too, until I had to pick up my children from school. My fear was immense, but I dried my tears and got to work and had my biggest growth to date, setting my own personal record. Eventually, I overcame my fear of being home alone. I learned an important lesson: In the middle of great pain, action helps you achieve great results.”

WEATHERING THE STORM When Hurricane Maria devastated Puerto Rico in 2017, Eusebia left the island and went to Clearwater, Fla., where her sisterin-law Felicia told her she should come and work. “There was destruction everywhere I looked, and with no power, I could not reach my customers or unit members, but I was determined to work, produce and grow. Felicia told me I could stay with her and work my business in Florida. She gave me a key to her house and to her car, and I used GPS for the first time in my life. I feared the whole ordeal, but I held on to my faith in God. I became familiar with the area, started getting names, addresses and phone numbers, and I felt joy in my heart. I offered free facials. Some would say yes; others would say no. If they were willing to have the facial in that moment, I would follow them to their house, and if not, I would schedule their facial, color party and even color workshops! When people in Puerto Rico were going through that difficult time, I was able to maintain and grow my business. There was the lesson again: In difficult situations, you need to move forward; you need to take action.” Four years later, in mid-August 2021, thinking he was having a reaction to the vaccine, Eusebia’s husband got sick with the Delta variant of COVID-19. The virus acted quickly, and within three days, he was on a ventilator. At age 59, after 37 years of marriage to Eusebia, two adult children (Elvin and Independent Sales Director Laurie Marte Bonilla), two grandkids (Elvin Gabriel and Sara Elise), Pedro P. Marte died on Sept. 3, 2021. “Pedro was a wonderful husband and father. Everybody adored him. If Independent Beauty Consultants didn’t have a car, he would go out of his way to pick them up at their houses, have snacks ready for them for after our unit meeting and drive them back home. He was always by my side helping in any way he could, either receiving orders or delivering products if I was out of town. Four months before his death, he had opened our family business, a pet store, “El Palacio de las Mascotas” (The Pet Palace). Now that he is gone, my son Elvin, 33, and I manage the family business.”

THE ONE CONSTANT Throughout these life experiences, Eusebia has always come back to the Mary Kay Ash autobiography, Miracles Happen. “Mary Kay says (Chapter 2) that work is the best therapy to life’s downs. That is what I have done. I have worked consistently through my pain and my fears. And it has paid off. In 2022, I am focused on strengthening and developing my unit. I want to be on the Top Sales Director Trip to Scotland! I also want to be a good example for Laurie and my unit, to eventually become an Independent National Sales Director.

TIPS FROM EUSEBIA • If you’re a new Independent Beauty Consultant, consistently plan to do 15 faces the first 15 days of the month. • Have at least two skin care parties a week. At the beginning of my business, I had a job and went to college; on Friday and Saturday evenings, I would schedule two parties a day. The same for teambuilding conversations. • Make it a goal to have three to five Great Start-qualified team members each month. • Keep your goal poster updated and visible. It’s a reminder of your why and of your goal. It keeps you focused on taking action. • Never lose faith in yourself. Mary Kay Ash said it in four words, “You can do it.” • Always clearly know what you want and when you want it. Put a date to your goal! • Discipline and consistency are key! • Stay positive. Your mind knows that problems will show up, but you must continue. Dry your tears, wipe your knees and move forward, mi amiga.
