Sometimes, the second time’s the charm. That certainly was the case for Christie Jones. Christie, who started a Mary Kay business during college, fell in love with the products and appreciated the extra income she earned while in school.

“Today, I realize my ‘why’ was different back then. When I submitted my Independent Beauty Consultant Agreement the second time, I was married with two kids, and I wanted to capitalize on every promotion and perk that was available to me. I worked with a purpose to achieve every challenge and promotion that was there for me.”

WORKING TOWARD

A DREAM Christie and her husband E.L. had a dream to send their son, Aaron, to a private Christian school once he hit middle school. “It was October 2020, and I was homeschooling my two kids due to the pandemic,” she says. “At the time, I was working part time as a fitness coach and volunteering as an outreach coordinator at our church where my husband is minister. I knew the potential of the Mary Kay opportunity, so I decided to see if a Mary Kay business could help us meet our goal.”

She got busy calling all her friends and family to book parties. “It was definitely a case of ‘I didn’t know what I didn’t know,’” she laughs. “I just booked parties, shared the products and offered the Mary Kay opportunity to each guest. I met many women who were eager to try something new. I took advantage of the Great Start Program and the free product bonus bundles and every promotion in front of me. I didn’t want to leave anything on the table.”

SURPRISE AND DELIGHT

A few months into her Mary Kay business, the Jones’ church began a capital campaign to add space because of its rapid growth. “Looking back, this campaign helped to open our eyes,” she says. “As a family, we made a two-year commitment to the campaign, earmarking a portion of my Mary Kay earnings toward it.

“For a family living on a preacher’s salary, we never dreamed we would be able to give in such a way toward the capital campaign,” says Christie. “That was the confidence boost I needed to motivate me and my Mary Kay business even more.

Christie debuted as an Independent Sales Director in July 2021.

A TRACKED NUMBER GROWS

“This time around in my Mary Kay business, I track my numbers to know what I need to do to get to where I want to go. It’s a mental shift from the first time around. Today, I see the impact of adding new team members and sharing this wonderful opportunity with other women.”

The added bonus? “All the new friendships I’ve made and the personal growth I’ve experienced were just the icing on the cake. Today, I love to help women discover their ‘whys’ and motivate them to success. Mary Kay can benefit every woman’s life; it’s just about helping her see it. They have to be willing to do the work, but I can coach them on the business and mentor along the way. The part of the puzzle I play is helping them figure out what truly brings them joy. I am better because of them!

“When I worked in the corporate arena, no matter how hard I worked or how far I climbed, it just meant more time commitment away from my family. I saw my mom get pulled in different directions in her corporate roles, and I didn’t want that stress for me and my family. My Mary Kay business has opened a lot of doors to the future for me, and I am truly grateful.”

GLAM FAM Today, Christie and her Glam Fam unit are going strong. “We are a tight-knit group with a strong sisterhood in our pink bubble think tank,” muses Christie. “Our unit members are smart and bring incredible ideas to share. I hold monthly virtual events with new Independent Beauty Consultants and their guests to build their confidence and help them with early successes. I also had to learn the virtual world so I could coach my unit. I was super nervous at first, but I figured it out. I’ve learned that people like those who are relatable, and no one expects perfection!”

Christie earned the use of a Mary Kay Career Car Equinox in September 2021. Her daughter has her eyes on having her mom earn the use of the pink Cadillac. “This is definitely a family business,” says Christie.
