LILLA

Lilla Collection Lilla means “little “ in Swedish; it is also a rather sweet female name derived from Elizabeth, and one of my closest friend’s name is Lilla. Lilla is also the name of my latest fabric collection; a fabric collection that is made up of small print designs and patterns, much smaller in scale than you might be used to coming from me. I decided to explore what would happen if I scaled all my deigns down a bit. How would it change the collection overall? And how would it change the way you use the fabrics in this little collection, and what sort of projects you made? As you probably already know, I am a textile designer who is a fan of big, bold designs - I am true child of the Marimekko generation, and born in Finland after all. It has been real fun to play with scale a bit while designing Lilla. Some designs work super well when they are tinsy, others lose something, a feeling, or impact if they become too tiny, so not all designs are suitable to be small. I am very happy at the end result and where this collection landed, it turned out to be a sweet collection that is so suitable for many, many different projects, but especially good for quilts using smaller pieces, garments for wee little people, and I can see many lovely shirts for women and men made out of these fabrics.. to name a few. I am still very fond of sweet, pastel colors like mint green and a soft coral. I also like to mix in a dark, dark indigo color in this collection. Indigo; a classic color that teams up so well together with almost any other color; and I dont think I can design a collection without a yellow in it. Yellow is such a joyous and cheerful color, so of course we need that ...all the time ! I hope you enjoy this collection and that you feel inspired to create a lot of new projects with it .

I have been feeling a bit extra domestic lately. Spending a bit more time at home wanting to make more food items from scratch. I love making bone broth, and baking a cardomum cake every now and then, and preserving fruits and veggies. Making peach jam is one of my favorites, easy to do, and most delicious to eat. Making simple potholders is also a fun project, and a very cute hostess gift . This simple sewing pattern is taken from my sewing book “Simple Sewing that you can still find available online.

TANGELO + LILLA = LOVE!

I love Carolyn Friedlander’s Quilt Tangelo so much (it’s hard not to love everything that woman does), and the Lilla Collection is a great partner for Tangelo. It is an intermediate paper and basic piecing quilt and if you are interested in making your own version you can purchase the sewing pattern at Carolyn’s website. www. carolynfriedlander.com

ESME TUNIC

Last year my sewing book Lotta Jansdotter Everyday Style was published and I have received so many compliments for that book. Thank You! You have also shared so many photos of the lovely garments that you have made using the sewing patterns from the book, but I think, hands down the most popular item in that book is the Esme Tunic. And I am not surprised: it is a great cut, incredibly easy to sew and that tunic can be used and worn in so many versitile ways. I have six or sevent esme tunics already, and I don’t plan to stop . I love this one, made out of a bit darker palette. This print design is called Tove, it is one of my most popular prints and was part of my fabric collection Glimma, a few years back. Now Tove, it is back again, but a tinsy bit smaller. She is smaller, but not less powerful!

This page: Nicole Daksiewics has created a real sweet quilt called Read between the Lines for AG’s Simple Series. It is strikingly simple and has multiple size options. You can find the quilt sewing pattern at www. alisonglass.com Facing page: Mom’s comfortable stay at home dress is another garment pattern from my sewing book, a dress called Kiomi. You can make yours long like this, or a bit shorter and with our without a tie at the waist.

a thread collection created by Lotta Jansdotter

My Book Lotta Jansdotter Everyday Style is my latest sewing book. It is jam packed with simple, classic, clever, and pretty garment sewing patterns for your everyday life. It was a pleasure, and a lot of hard work, to create this book and I feel so fortunate to have had the very talented Alexia Abegg of Green Bee Patterns to help me draft the sewing patterns and to write the instructions - she is rather amazing and did a marvelous job. greenbeepatterns.com There has been incredible response to this book since it was released and I am very proud and happy about it. If you are interested in seeing some of the projects and garments that people have sewn from this book, please jump online and you will find many wonderful examples from all over the world to be inspired by. If you are a shop owner and want to carry this book please reach out to Abrams Books. www.abramsbooks.com

Big, bold patchwork.. YES, I do love it and it is so, so easy to whip together a table cloth, or a curtain with plenty of style statement and whim without being too loud. No sewing pattern needed - simply sew blocks of fabrics together in your desired length and width.

FEMKE QUILT PATTERN

The Femke Quilt is a modern quilt design that I created together with my favorite quilter Insung Kim. This quilt pattern is also free and available as a PDF at www.windhamfabrics.com
