For first-year students who are looking to make their connection to FAU, the Living Learning Communities in Heritage Park Towers (HPT) are the place to be. Freshmen are also encouraged to make waves through the First Year Student Housing Program in HPT, Glades Park Towers, Indian River Towers and Parliament Hall. Options abound for sophomores, upperclassmen and graduate students as well. Second-year students will enjoy the opportunity to get engaged with the Sophomore Year Experience (SYE) Learning Community, located in Innovation Village Apartments South, while upperclassmen and graduate students will feel at home in Algonquin Hall, University Village Apartments and Innovation Village Apartments North and South. ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT OF HOUSING & RESIDENTIAL LIFE Residence Hall Staff
All students residing in on-campus housing have access to student (Resident Assistants) and professional (Hall Coordinators and Resident Coordinators) staff members within their residential communities. Resident Assistants are upper-division students who have been specifically selected and trained to provide assistance and maintain a supportive academic atmosphere within the community. The full-time staff members are professionally trained and live on campus in the housing communities they supervise.
Freshman Residency Requirement The Department of Housing and Residential Life strives to educate our students outside of the classroom in order to provide them with a collegiate experience that better prepares them for a pluralistic society.

Exemptions from this policy are made for students who: • Are 21 or older by the first day of class. • Reside with parent(s) or legal guardian(s) within a 30-mile radius of the Boca Raton campus. • Are married.

Our Vision
All full-time freshmen are required to reside in on-campus housing. Any freshman who wishes to receive an exemption must complete a Housing Exemption Request Form. This form is available at www.fau.edu/housing or by calling the Department of Housing and Residential Life at 561-2972880. Exemption requests must be received and approved before August 1 for Fall and December 1 for Spring. Freshman student residency will be verified for compliance at the start of each semester.
I absolutely love living on campus, it makes everything so easy. All my classes are so close and all my friends are in one place. ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
HOUSING CONTRACTS The Department of Housing and Residential Life does not guarantee your choice of residence hall or room preferences. Assignments are done on a first-come, first-served basis and on space availability. Follow these five easy steps to apply for housing and complete your contract: 1) Once you’re admitted, be sure to get your FAU Student ID and password and have them ready. 2) Log in to MyFau.fau.edu and click on the Students tab. 3) Navigate to the Housing and Residential Life channel and click on Housing Online. 4) Log in under Apply Online. 5) Follow the on-screen instructions to complete your contract, answering all questions along the way*. *You may be required to pay a deposit. If you are, the system will forward you to the online payment site. You can pay by credit card or electronic check. Upon successful completion and submission of your online contract, you will see a notification on your screen saying “Thanks for submitting your contract.” A copy of this page will be sent to your FAU e-mail account. If you do not see the “Thanks for submitting your contract” page, your submission failed. We will not be able to process your contract and you will have to resubmit the contract. Tips for successful contract submission: •Read through the entire contract before agreeing to it. •Print a copy of your contract for your records. Roommate requests are due by April 1 for the fall semester and November 1 for the spring semester. Requests can be made online through the MyHousing tab in MyFAU.

The FAU Business Professional Women’s Scholarship House is a cooperative Living/Learning facility housing 16 women who participate in leadership experiences, develop life skills, and share community responsibilities (preparing cooperative meals, etc.). To be eligible for the program, an applicant must: • Be a female enrolled as a full-time, degree-seeking current or transfer undergraduate or graduate student*. • Demonstrate significant financial need in order to attend college (a minimum of $1,500 of unmet need as determined by the applicant’s FAU Student Financial Aid Award Letter or Student Aid Report). • Have a high school, college/university or FAU cumulative GPA of 3.0 and semester GPA of 2.75. • Demonstrate high academic promise and achievement in high school and/or college. • Demonstrate a strong desire to work for a college education. • Show willingness to participate in a cooperative woman’s scholarship environment.

SOPHOMORE YEAR & FRESHMAN YEAR EXPERIENCE FRESHMAN YEAR EXPERIENCE Students who reside in any of our freshman residence hall communities will be able to interact with FAU and experience their freshman year in a unique way. SOPHOMORE YEAR EXPERIENCE The Second Year Experience (SYE) is a partnership with Academic Affairs and Student Affairs. The second year of college brings about new and exciting challenges for students. They begin to take on added responsibilities and make decisions that will affect the rest of their lives. Through the SOaring OWL Program, second-year students will build on the career, personal and academic foundations they established during their first year of college. Fundamental to this process is the continued development wtih advisors, recognition of self and wellbeing, and advancement of learning and leadership. Participants in the SOaring OWL Program will reside in a cohort within Innovation Village Apartments South (IVAS), where many of the program’s planned activities will be offered. Information sessions, geared to educate freshmen about the SOaring OWL Program, are offered in late fall.

RESIDENT STUDENT ASSOCIATION & COMMUNITY COUNCIL Living on campus provides students with more than just a place to live. We invite residents to take advantage of the many opportunities to get involved in the housing and campus communities. There are always programs and activities to attend—most of which are student planned, coordinated and driven. Resident Student Association (RSA) is open to all residents and gives students the chance to organize, support and participate in Universtiy Housing and campus activities. RSA gives students the opportunity to become involved in planning events and providing input on decisions made by University Housing. RSA is a campus-wide organization and participates in some of FAU’s larger events, such as Homecoming and Clubfest. Resident Student Association (RSA)

Community Councils (CCs) serve as the liaisons between the residence hall buildings and RSA. Together, RSA and the CCs put on educational and social programs, and hold meetings where residents of that CC voice their opinions and concerns with their building. RSA provides opportunities for students to not only become involved leaders in University Housing, but to also engage with other FAU clubs and organizations.

NRHH is a premiere honorary organization dedicated to recognizing the top 1% of leaders living in the residence hall, NRHH acknowledges those leaders who always go above and beyond the call of duty making their collegiate experience living in the residence hall more than living in a “dorm.” NRHH is a national organization founded on the four primary principles of scholastics, service, recognition, and leadership. The FAU Chapter of NRHH strives to crete opportunities for our members to excel in these areas and connect with like-minded students.
Hello Future NRHH-ers! My name is Taylor Eljaua; I am a senior at FAU working toward my Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art. I am a Resident Assistant in Heritage Park Towers and I also serve as the National Residence Hall Honorary (NRHH) President. I have been involved with NRHH since my third year here at FAU. Prior to joining NRHH I have held other leadership roles throughout the Department of Housing. My freshman and sophomore year I was involved in community council in my hall and I also became a Student Assistant for the University Village Apartments. My junior year, I applied for NRHH and was inducted in the Fall of 2011. Being involved in NRHH has been my favorite leadership role that I have been a part of to date. It has really helped me to grow and develop as a leader, an individual, as a student and as a role model. NRHH has helped me make some great friends too. It’s a close-knit group of people who WANT to see me succeed! My grades have gone up since joining, more opportunities to get involved have been presented to me, and stronger links have been formed! If there was one thing that I would urge you to do as you all embark on a new year here at FAU, it would be to GET INVOLVED! My college experience would not be the same with out my on campus involvement! I would not have the friends I have nor the opportunities I have now if it wasn’t for my involvement. RESFEST
SAFETY WEEK
ResFest is an Olympics style competition between halls held in the fall semester. There are a many events for everyone to participate in, including football, volleyball, billiards, and video games, just to name a few. ResFest is one of the newest housing traditions. It is a great time to meet new people from all the different residence halls on campus.
Safety Week is a University-wide initiative held twice a year, once in the fall and once in the spring. Programs and initatives include but are not limited to safety checks of rooms, testing of fire equipment, safety walks, safety programs in each residence hall, and large-scale programs throughout the University.

TIMUCUA PAGEANT
SPRING CARNIVAL
Timucua Pageant is FAU’s longest-standing housing tradition and is named after one of our first residence halls, Timucua Hall. This talentshow style pageant for men and women is held every year as a part of Homecoming week. The competition is open to all FAU students. Prizes vary, but have included housing scholarships and VIP access to Homecoming events.
Spring Carnival takes place during Spring semester and is co-sponsored by Housing and Residential Life as well as Resident Student Association. There are carnival games and carnival-style food. It is a chance for students to relax and have fun with friends before final exams begin!

All students living in University residence halls are required to select a Campus Meal Plan and complete a Campus Meal Plan Contract in addition to their housing contract because the residence halls do not offer adequate cooking facilities for individual and regular food preparation. RESIDENCE HALL MEAL PLAN INFORMATION
Each Campus Meal Plan comes with a set number of meals per week. Some plans also include “Flex Bucks” which can be used at any of our campus retail dining locations and convenience stores. The Centre Marketplace, where all meal swipes are accepted, has been fully remodeled with double the capacity (900 seats) and 7,500 square feet. There are plenty of new features such as a “Made Without Gluten” station and “My Pantry,” where students can create their own waffles and help themselves to a hearty breakfast. Next door is the Burrow Bar and Grill (formerly Coyote Jack’s). With a completely refreshed menu, students can try one of our signature burgers and some tasty appetizers, as well as menu specials throughout each semester. Students can also enjoy exciting events such as karaoke nights, live bands, and pool tournaments. Over in Parliament Hall are FAU’s two newest dining locations: Simply Puur and Red Mango, which are both open to public. These locations are open to the public and are adjacent to Parliament Hall’s entrance. Simply Puur offers a breakfast and lunch menu unlike any other on campus. One can relish a warm omelet, Greek burritos, or even red velvet waffles for breakfast. For lunch, try specialty entrees like Jamaican Jerk Chicken or Panang Beef Curry. FREQUENTLY ASKED Q I HAVE THE FLORIDA PRE-PAID “DORMITORY PLAN.” WHAT DOES THIS MEAN AT FAU?
When you request a residence hall, you will be given a priority assignment, provided the completed Housing Contract is returned by May 1. The “Dormitory Plan” portion of the Florida Pre-Paid College Program covers only the rate for our least expensive double room in Glades Park Towers or Heritage Park Towers. You may “upgrade” your requested preferences, but you are responsible for paying any additional costs. You must indicate on your Housing Contract that you are a participant in this plan to get a priority assignment. The “Dormitory Plan” will not cover the $300 deposit.
I HAVE A HEALTH AND/OR MEDICAL CONDITION AND NEED TO MAKE A SPECIAL REQUEST. WHAT SHOULD I DO?
Students who have a health and/or medical condition that requires special accommodation or consideration in the room assignment process must contact and register with the Office for Students with Disabilities (OSD). The specific nature of your health and/or medical condition must be identified so we can work with you to accomodate your needs. Specific written documentation will be requested from you and your physician or diagnostician to support the request. OSD staff will evaluate the documentation and make recommendations to the Housing Office regarding appropriate modifications/assignments required to accommodate your specific needs. The process of review does take some time. The Department of Housing and Residential Life is not able to honor requests for special accommodations without an evaluation from OSD staff, and you need to complete the Housing Contract and OSD paperwork prior to May 1 for fall or November 1 for spring.
WHAT TYPE OF FURNITURE IS PROVIDED BY THE SCHOOL?
Every room on campus is provided with a bed (extra-long twin 36” x 80” in all buildings except Innovation Village North and South which come with standard full-size beds), desk, desk chair, and dresser in every student room. Indian River Towers, University Village Apartments, and Innovation Village Apartments also have furnishings provided in the common areas.
IS INTERNET PROVIDED?
Yes, all residence hall rooms and apartments come with Internet service, known as ResNet. ResNet is the high-speed computer network for the FAU residential student community. It is a shared resource, available in all on-campus housing locations. Since the campus network is a shared resource, actual transmission speed from a given workstation will vary depending upon network traffic load. You are provided with your own data port, and in most places within the residence halls, you will be able to access the network wirelessly.

QUESTIONS AM I ALLOWED TO BRING PETS TO MY ROOM?
The only pets allowed are fish kept in tanks that are no larger than 10 gallons. All other pets are prohibited. You are responsible for maintaining the tanks and are responsible for any and all damages caused by the keeping of fish or any unauthorized pets. Any cost associated with the possession of an unauthorized pet will be charged to the responsible resident(s) or to all residents of the room/apartment (e.g., damaged furniture, cleaning, pest control, etc.).
AM I ALLOWED TO PAINT MY ROOM?
No, the painting of resident rooms, suite areas, or common areas is prohibited.
CAN I STAY IN THE RESIDENCE HALL DURING VACATIONS AND BREAKS?
Yes, you are permitted to remain during Thanksgiving break, winter break and spring break. Staff coverage may be limited during these periods. A separate contract is required for the Summer term.
ARE MY PERSONAL BELONGINGS INSURED BY THE UNIVERSITY?
The University is not responsible for the loss of or damage caused to personal belongings of residents living in the residence halls or on-campus apartments. It is strongly suggested that residents check their parent(s)’ homeowners’ insurance policy for coverage, or purchase renters insurance. Two companies that specialize in renters insurance for college students are: GradGuard Renters Insurance (www.gradguard.com/renters) or National Student Services Incorporated (www.nssinc.com).
MAY RESIDENTS HAVE GUESTS IN THEIR ROOMS, AND CAN THEY STAY OVERNIGHT? Residents may have guests in their room only with prior approval from their roommate/suitemate(s). All overnight guests (any guests present between midnight and 7:30 a.m.) must be registered with the Area Office or RA on Duty by 10 PM. Hosts may have overnight guests for up to 15 nights per semester with prior approval of roommate/suitemate(s). Hosts may have a maximum of two overnight guests at any one time, and guests can stay for a maximum of three consecutive nights. Hosts are responsible for the behavior of their guests at all times.
