FAULT Style Guide

FAULTFall

Sometimes I try to do good, But I just can’t be! It’s hard to get myself to do things that ain’t be. You all should thank me, But my haters try to send me home early, But you came home to… I ain’t a saint, Bee, I ain’t Gaga, I ain’t the angel leader but I try harder. I’m like light for my soldiers at war, I sit back and watch the ashes on my Sedan fall. ..come home and…

GAME Pot Of Gold All this bright light is not for me I close my eyes and imagine I’m home! I miss the days when life was simple, But if I never try to follow that rainbow In search for the pot of gold! Oh, oh, oh! In search for the pot of gold!

FAULT

All this bright light is not for me I close my eyes and imagine I’m home! I miss the days when life was simple, But if I never try to follow that rainbow In search for the pot of gold! Oh, oh, oh! In search for the pot of gold!

Back And Forth

…out there right now About to have an extra… Searching for a pot of gold like a lepricon, They say death comes in three, two next in line, I lost a best friend for the second time. Now I’m on the quest to find peace, Still gotta carry my business …when its… You don’t understand, I’m misunderstood, Get in the smoke two more hours, then I’m done for good. So ten million records ain’t mean the hood, It’s a cold world, everybody in the hood And everybody doing time , staying here strong, You still got a chance to let, even though you did wrong.

This is Your FAULT

Editor’s Letter

First of all, apologies to all of you expect- patently pours his/her blood, sweat and tears ing the Cinematic Issue. We announced the theme of this issue back in July after talking to some amazing actors and actresses and had our sights set on bringing out an issue celebrating the best of contemporary Hollywood and its enduring international influence. Film fans won’t feel too bad though – we’ve kept all of our features on stars such as James Phelps, Hollywood royalty Julie Newmar, X-Files sex symbol Gillian Anderson (sorry David) and the wonderfully talented Tom Felton. In recent months, however, we have been forced to change tack. In addition to some of the biggest names in world cinema, we have also brought together some of the most seminal figures in music alongside the most ground-breaking artists of today and tomorrow. In this FAULT provoking issue, therefore, we are proud to look at the changing face of the music industry – how it relates to the greatest acts of yesteryear and what trends will survive in an industry that is being forced into increasingly difficult decisions while on the front line of the digital revolution. Here at FAULT, we’re unashamedly elitist. We believe that manufactured bands and artists are being squeezed into a smaller and smaller space in the industry. People are beginning to expect more – even from pop music – and artists who simply put their name and voice to a pre-fabricated track are becoming less tolerated. With that in mind, we are excited to feature some of the most original names in music in terms of sound, style and sheer expression. We believe in what is good rather than what is new, and nothing symbolises that more than the talent we are featuring in the same issue – we speak to Game, Lenny Kravitz and Natalia Kills about projects past and present. Music has always been about creating beauty, fantasy and escapism just as much as the sound itself. It is an art form that has always inspired itself. Nothing more needs to be said on the continuing influence of legends like Lenny Kravitz, for example. Although cynics can argue that one sound can mimic another, music is primarily about expression. Nowadays, we are more connected with our favourite artists through social media; fans can interact directly with the team behind the artist – if not the artists themselves – to gain an insight into their message and their personality. There is much more to be said, then, for an artist that

into their work than for expressionless also-rans. Artists are constantly finding new ways to showcase the effort they put into their work, and that is frequently manifested in fashion (thank you Lady Gaga). It is a major part of performance art and the female musicians of today are starting to breathe new life into both industries. Pop music, for instance, usually consists of relatively short, simple songs utilizing technological innovations to produce variations on existing themes – until now. If expression is king in music, Natalia Kills is queen. A mega star in the making, we are proud to have this talented sensation gracing this issue’s cover. Kills has an impeccable sense of style and imagery that is critical for FAULT, and we were intrigued to speak to her about the dark side of her music. We can’t wait to see what she will do next to push the limits of conventional pop music’s previously limited imagination. In addition to much more music, we’ve also featured the aforementioned film stars and fashion icons; the combination of which is present in our shoot with Gillian Anderson. It’s guaranteed to have you tearing out the pages to adorn your wall like a teenager in love. After previously featuring Rupert Grint, we carry on the Harry Potter theme in Issue 8. Actor, charity worker and (remarkably) sky diver James Phelps talks to about life after over 10 years working with the wizarding franchise. The extraordinary talent of Tom Felton also gives us an exclusive FAULT feature. For all the fuss over this shoot, we’re struck by the fact that you couldn’t ask to meet a nicer and more rounded person. We also speak to Julie Newmar at her Los Angeles home about her career so far and the release of her new book, meet Natalia Tena and continue to work with the outstanding photographic talents of Stefan Milev. FAULT believe that the wave of manufactured pop and generic artwork is finally breaking. In these testing financial times, all of us are becoming much more rigorous in our perceptions of art and artists across the board. Issue 8 is about artists who have stepped and will continue to step up to the plate in terms of creating work of genuinely powerful expression. We at FAULT will continue to make a stand against creative time-wasters and artistic also-rans. It is with some pride that we say to you (and with some irony that we say to them) This is your FAULT
