Personally, when I think of this type of fashion for men, I immediately think of the 70s and 80s. This gave men enough time to adjust to all the trends of that time. When the 80s rolled in, the majority of men had embraced their bodies and were not afraid to show it: tight-fighting pants, turtleneck tops, and fitted suits were all the rage.
The Hottest End of Summer! Summer is the season we all look forward to the most. It’s the height of vacation season and everyone is outdoors enjoying the sun. With regard to fashion, it’s certainly an exciting time filled with bright colours, eye-catching patterns, and light fabrics. That said, let’s not forget that as the heat goes up, the layers go down clothes to avoid funky tan lines. For our European readers, this is not a surprise. They’ve already embraced the joy of minimal tan lines and maximizing summertime for decades.
For those not familiar, or lucky enough to have strutted the down the streets during this era, movies like Everybody Wants Some! and The Man from U.N.C.L.E. captured what I’m talking about, while inspiring many of our wardrobe choices this year. Needless to say, this edition was also inspired by the masculine yet sensual, stylish, curious and adventurous men of that time. And I have to say, it’s really great to see men letting go of stereotypes and not being afraid to wear clothes to show off their assets once more!

FM: Tell us how your modelling career came out of your love for fitness? What role did social media play in all of this? XP: Modeling came out of my love for fitness because it’s what got me noticed from my small town in Arizona. I was physically ahead of most other people my age, so it brought attention. Social media played a huge role in where I’m at right now. Social media is the reason I was able to be seen by so many people, and that led to my uncle’s agency seeing that I had potential in this industry. FM: What was the biggest challenge going from a bodybuilding physique to a model’s body? XP: The biggest challenge was definitely losing weight. I had to lose about 15 pounds, and these were pounds of muscle, not fat. It was upsetting at first because I had worked so hard to look a certain way, and I had to just let it all go. I’m glad I did, though, because I wouldn’t be where I’m at now if I hadn’t lost the weight.

FM: You got noticed quite early and got a lot of attention on Instagram. What advice can you share about managing good and negative attention in social media? XP: The advice I can share is to take it all as publicity, whether it’s positive or negative. You’re still getting noticed. Everyone is going to have negative attention eventually. It’s just hate, so brush it off. When it’s positive attention, say your “thank you” and move on.

FM: While on the topic of attention, what are your thoughts on the attention you get from males and females and males? XP: My thoughts are that it’s still all just attention. Like I said before, it doesn’t matter if it’s negative or positive feedback because you’re still getting noticed. FM: Some last questions: What show would you like to walk in? What would be one of the top campaigns you’d like to be part of a? Which model(s) do you see as inspiration? XD: The show would definitely be DSquared Men’s Swimwear. A top campaign I would like to be a part of would be Nike Fitness. One model I see as an inspiration is Staniel Ferreira. He’s constantly doing something awesome, whether it’s a runway show, a campaign, or even travelling! It just shows me how much there is in the modeling industry. He’s absolutely killing it! Props to him.
