my research I looked as spinning wheels used for weaving linen, the circular shape of the wheels inspired me to create garments originating from a basic circle. I practised with moulage and decided I would design a range of capes.

Inspired by the pattern created by the steel bars of the Harland and Wolfe cranes I have decided to explore quilting as I feel that quilting reflects the pattern I have developed though my research.

(compass magazine development)
Using pictures for an index instead of just words would give our magazine an exciting edge from the first page. Instead of just using images however we could do a countdown of '20 things we love' etc. and say a short paragraph about each of our features and give a page reference. . I quite like the idea of using one striking image for our magazine cover . Our magazine is going to be quite minimalistic so over crowing the cover with text and images wil take away from the feel of the magazine. The magazine cover to the left, while plain is also very memorable and would stand out on shelf when surrounded by glossy magazines crowded with text and slogans. The cover of our magazine wil only include the name 'Compass' this wil hopefully intrigue the target individual and cause them to open the magazine to find out more which wil increase the likelihood of a purchase taking place.
I am very keen to experiment with different types of layout using InDesign, for example, the technique to the left where the picture is positioned spreading across the gutter. I feel this makes the picture a lot more interesting than it would be if it was just positioned on just one single page..
Due to the style of the magazine I hope to include a lot of full page bleeds. As a group we are very interested in photography and very keen to get the best photographs possible so i think it would really benefit the magazine if photography was one of the main focuses . We have already gathered some photos that we feel would make a very strong impact if presented as full page bleeds. The spread to the left really inspired me when thinking about our escapism feature. This photo drew my attention as although it’s quite sparse, the picture itself was so well executed in terms or resolution and colour balance that it makes just as big a statement than if the page was fil ed wil images .
page plan Below is our original page plan for 'Compass' magazine' we added extra pages along the way because we managed to gather so many photographs that we loved we found it impossible to choose between them!

magazine cover ideas
Compass magazine is about the simple things in life , therefor the cover must reflect the style of the magazine. As a group we agreed the cover should be simplistic but creative and well executed..
