“No-Shave November” donation presentation
Police present ‘No-Shave November’ check to Cancer Wellness Center Fayetteville Police officers last week presented a $3,061 check to the Piedmonth Fayette Cancer Wellness Center from proceeds raised through their No-Shave November campaign, which included a beard-busting and barbecue-eating event at J. Sam’s Barbershop on the last day of February. Officers were allowed to grow and keep a full beard for all of November through February for a donation of $25 a month to the cause. Sam Burch and his friends at The Harbin Agency also provided barbecue dinners on a donation basis to raise additional funds. Officers are back to the policy now, wearing goatees, mustaches or no facial hair at all. Introducing our 2018 City of Fayetteville Strategic Plan The mayor and city council on Thursday, March 15, adopted the 2018 City of Fayetteville Strategic Plan, which is a guiding document for the City of Fayetteville in the months and years to come. Unveiled within the Strategic Plan is the City’s three to five-year Strategic Focus, which is namely to “Develop Economic Opportunity”, run an “Efficient & Effective Government”, “Protect & Grow Infrastructure”, “Improve Neighborhoods”, and “Invest in Transportation”. Outlined within the Strategic Focus section are numerous, specific short-term and long-term projects, including public safety initiatives, economic development plans and priorities set out for City staff. Much of the work toward building the Strategic Plan took place over two days in December during a City staff and elected officials retreat. Responding to the priorities set by the mayor and council, City Manager Ray Gibson and his staff leadership team developed and published the plan. That plan was then presented back to the mayor and city council for

approval and adoption. “This was a team effort,” said Gibson. An interactive version of the 32-page document is available on the City’s website: fayetteville-ga. gov. You will also find links to it on our Facebook page: @fayettevillega.gov. The full document can be viewed on any Internet browser, and it can also be downloaded or printed as a PDF. To see a paper copy of the Strategic Plan, visit City Hall at 240 South Glynn Street.

What do YOU think about traffic in Fayetteville and Fayette County?
Fayette County Engineer Phil Mallon (left) went on 92.5 The Bear Friday morning reminding people to take the online Fayette Transportation Plan survey. You can find that survey link on the City website, fayetteville-ga.gov, or on our Facebook page, @fayettevillega.gov.
Residents and others who travel through Fayetteville and Fayette County have until Wednesday, March 21, to go online and take the Fayette Transportation Plan Survey. This survey, which only takes a few minutes to complete, is an important part of the overall, countywide transportation planning process being led by Fayette County government with cooperation from Fayette’s municipalities, including Fayetteville. “We engage our citizens regularly to help set our priorities here at Fayetteville City Hall, and
transportation issues regularly rank at the top of that list of concerns,” said City Manager Ray Gibson. “I am pleased to learn that hundreds of citizens have already completed the online survey, and I hope many more will take the time to participate. The survey can be accessed directly at surveymonkey.com/r/FayetteTransportationPlan, and links can be found on the City of Fayetteville website and Facebook page: fayetteville-ga.gov; @ fayettevillega.gov.
Find it on the City’s new website: fayetteville-ga.gov A big “thank you” is due to all who have visited the new City website located at fayetteville-ga.gov. Many residents have commented that they love the new look and functionality of the site, though there have been a few broken links and other bugs to be worked out. Many of
those are now resolved, and we look forward to expanding the offerings and increasing traffic to the site. As with any City of Fayetteville product or service, we want to hear from the community. Please send comments, questions and suggestions to info@fayetteville-ga.gov.

Heartis Fayetteville senior living community nearing completion
Heartis Fayetteville Executive Director Natalie White-Faulkner (left) and Frontier Management Regional Vice President Keith Spencer are pictured at the construction site entrance to what is becoming the city’s newest senior living community. Heartis is located on Hwy. 54 west, just east of Gingercake and Burch roads.
The growth of Fayetteville and the wider region over the last few decades has largely been because of the influx of so-called Baby Boomers, people born between the mid-1940s and the mid-1960s. Many of those residents are now into their retirement years, and where before they were attracted to the typical four-bedroom homes on one-acre lots, some are now showing interest in active-living senior housing. Heartis Fayetteville on Hwy. 54 West in Fayetteville, just east of Gingercake and Burch roads, is nearing completion, and by spring it will begin offering the first of its residential units to Baby Boomers and the parents of Baby Boomers. The community will feature independent living, assisted living and memory care options. Page 5
“Our residents tell us they want a greater variety of housing options for all generations,” said Community Development Director Jahnee Prince. “We are grateful to have Heartis Fayetteville on board to help us answer that need. We are looking forward to welcoming our first new residents there in the weeks and months to come.” While Heartis Fayetteville is under construction, a sales office has been established just up the hill at 110 Howard Lane, Suite B, next to the Synovus Bank at the corner of Hwy. 54 and Burch Road. Natalie White-Faulkner is the executive director, and she can be reached at info@heartisfayetteville.com or 770461-2555.

Getting social with the City of Fayetteville More than 8,300 Facebook users now follow the City of Fayetteville, Georgia page (@fayettevillega.gov), and we are aiming to increase that number to more than 10K by year’s end. Closing out 2016, the City’s page had nearly 6,300 followers, and there were nearly 8,100 by the end of 2017. An increase in the frequency of posts in the coming weeks and months will help with those numbers, and the City’s current followers can help by sharing posts and inviting friends to “like”, “follow” and “share”. This year, we also plan to increase the City’s presence on other social media platforms, including Twitter, Instagram and Nextdoor.
