HOA leaders from all around Fayetteville gathered in early 2020 for the most recent HOA Boot Camp event.

HOA Boot Camp returns to Fayetteville City Hall October 16, 10 a.m. to noon The City of Fayetteville is hosting another popular and informative HOA Boot Camp on Saturday, October 16, 10 a.m. to noon. This free event will take place at Fayetteville City Hall, 210 Stonewall Avenue West. As in years past, the HOA Boot Camp is tailored to leaders and active members

of neighborhood homeowners associations located within the City of Fayetteville, Georgia. City department directors will give brief updates on matters relating to neighborhoods, and City leaders will discuss and differentiate between matters that are the responsibility of HOAs and matters that are the

responsibility of the City of Fayetteville. The event will conclude with an open time for questions and answers. More information about the event will be available soon, and updates will be published on social media and at www. Fayetteville-GA.gov/HOA.

The Police Department was presented with a re-accreditation award from the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police during the August 18 City Council meeting.

Fayetteville Police Department earns and maintains state accreditation, now working toward national accreditation The Fayetteville Police Department on August 19 was publicly presented with its 2021 state certification award from the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police during the Fayetteville City Council meeting. State Certification Coordinator Chuck Groover presented a plaque and a challenge coin to Police Chief Scott Gray as well as a challenge coin to former Fayetteville Police Accreditation Manager Ann Marie Burdett. Upon completing the reaccreditation process earlier this summer, Burdett was promoted within the City of Fayetteville to the role of Director of Communications and Public Information. Police Officer David Cagle transitioned into the accreditation manager role during the final weeks of the 2021 re-accreditation process. Peachtree City Police Chief Janet Moon was also at the City Council meeting representing the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police as its

new President, having been elected by her peers to the role during the annual conference this summer. Moon emphatically promoted the benefits of being not only state accredited but also nationally certified. She noted that among the approximately 600 law enforcement agencies in the State of Georgia, only about 140 are state accredited. She said only 736 of the nation’s 18,000 law enforcement agencies are nationally accredited. “It is something that is very important,” Chief Moon told council members. “It means that your department has voluntarily opened itself up for scrutiny. They’re following the contemporary best practice standards that are out there.” Chief Moon congratulated the Fayetteville Police Department for not only earning re-accreditation on the state level but also for beginning the process of earning national accreditation through The Commission on Accreditation

for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA). She said she is personally encouraging all law enforcement agencies in Fayette County to seek and achieve a unified level of accreditation, which she said would enhance agencies’ ability to collaborate and support one another. “We believe the Fayetteville Police Department is the best police department in the entire United States of America,” said Mayor Ed Johnson. “I know from the years that I’ve been here that Chief Gray has made a tremendous impact. Ms. Ann Marie has done her due diligence in helping us with accreditation, and I know Officer Cagle is just going to jump right in and continue to do the outstanding job, especially now that we’ve raised the bar a little higher to the CALEA certification. “We’re proud of our officers for raising the standard and keeping the citizens of Fayetteville safe,” Mayor Johnson said.

FAYETTEVILLE OFFERS SHREDDING, RECYCLING, AND MORE FOR GEORGIA CITIES WEEK The City of Fayetteville will offer free paper shredding, glass recycling, and electronics recycling (no TVs) October 9, from 9 a.m. to noon, in celebration of Georgia Cities Week 2021. The City will also offering a special Georgia Cities Week coloring sheet and word search game on the City of Fayetteville website: www.Fayetteville-GA. gov/GCW. Printed coloring sheets and word search games will be available in limited quantities at Fayetteville City Hall, 210 Lanier Avenue West, Fayetteville. Always a popular event, this

upcoming Shred & Recycle Day will take place in the parking lot at Fayetteville’s new City Center Park, 210 Stonewall Avenue West. Participants are asked to use the Stonewall Avenue West entrance between Fayetteville City Cemetery and Fayetteville City Hall. Follow the lane back to the shredding and recycling stations. Paper shredding will be limited to 10 file storage boxes (15x12x10 inches) or three kitchen-sized (13-gallon) trash bags of paper per person. No binder clips, binders, CDs, or any material except paper. Glass recycling will be limited

to household glass, with no ceramics, windows or auto glass. Electronics recycling includes computers, small appliances (blenders, mixers, etc.), and other small devices, but it does not include televisions of any size. Volunteers will be on site to assist with instructions and information, but participants should be prepared to carry their own paper and recyclables to the receptacles. There’s nothing like outdoor grilling. It’s one of the most popular ways to cook food. But, a grill placed too close to anything that can burn is a fire hazard. They can be very hot, causing burn injuries. Follow these simple tips and you will be on the way to safe grilling. SAFETY TIPS

KKK Propane and charcoal BBQ grills should only be used outdoors.

Propane Grills

KKK The grill should be placed well away from the home, deck railings and out from under eaves and overhanging branches. KKK Keep children and pets at least three feet away from the grill area.

KKK Keep your grill clean by removing grease or fat buildup from the grills and in trays below the grill. KKK Never leave your grill unattended.

KKK Always make sure your gas grill lid is open before lighting it.

CHARCOAL GRILLS

KKK There are several ways to get the charcoal ready to use. Charcoal chimney starters allow you to start the charcoal using newspaper as a fuel. KKK If you use a starter fluid, use only charcoal starter fluid. Never add charcoal fluid or any other flammable liquids to the fire.

KKK Keep charcoal fluid out of the reach of children and away from heat sources. KKK There are also electric charcoal starters, which do not use fire. Be sure to use an extension cord for outdoor use.

KKK When you are finished grilling, let the coals completely cool before disposing in a metal container. NATIONAL FIRE PROTECTION ASSOCIATION The leading information and knowledge resource on fire, electrical and related hazards

Check the gas tank hose for leaks before using it for the first time each year. Apply a light soap and water solution to the hose. A propane leak will release bubbles. If your grill has a gas leak, by smell or the soapy bubble test, and there is no flame, turn off both the gas tank and the grill. If the leak stops, get the grill serviced by a professional before using it again. If the leak does not stop, call the fire department. If you smell gas while cooking, immediately get away from the grill and call the fire department. Do not move the grill. If the flame goes out, turn the grill and gas off and wait at least 5 minutes before re-lighting it.
