Gremlin Growlers buys Courthouse Square building from the Fayetteville DDA

Pictured (l-r) are Fayetteville Economic Development Director Brian Wismer, Clark Ninneman with Heritage Bank (primary lender), DDA Member Sarah Murphy, Gremlin Growlers owner Glenn Gresham, and Chris Higdon with Ga Cities Foundation (secondary lender).

Glenn and Heather Gresham, who own Gremlin Growlers on Fayetteville’s Courthouse Square, now own their building as well. The Greshams officially closed on the purchase agreement with the Fayetteville Downtown Development Authority (DDA) on July 22. The DDA bought the building on the west side of the Courthouse Square in May 2014. “The DDA purchased a strategic but underutilized downtown property,” said Fayetteville Economic Development Director Brian Wismer. “Our goal was to find a business for the space that would contribute to the City’s vision for a walkable, vibrant community.” Wismer says the DDA reviewed

several proposals from potential lessees, but it was the Greshams’ plan that best fit the bill. They moved into the space in the summer of 2016. Gremlin Growlers specializes in craft beer and craft coffee. They offer brews on draft, by the package, and by the growler fill. Coffee is roasted in-house and sold by the pound and by the cup. Patrons enjoy a relaxed, café environment where they can work online with free wi-fi, enjoy conversations with friends, and participate in the many themed events throughout the month. “Their vision is closely aligned with the City’s goals, and we have been pleased with the outcome,” Wismer said. “We initially signed

a five-year lease, but it was always our goal to sell the building to Glenn and Heather.” Run by a board of appointed volunteers with oversight from the City of Fayetteville government, the DDA is focused on revitalizing, enhancing, and stimulating the economic development of the city. “The DDA is not interested in being a long-term landlord,” Wismer said. “Our mission is best served when we can create opportunities to stabilize the downtown core with private sector investments. “The sale to Gremlin Growlers is a perfect example of that mission at work, and we wish Glenn and Heather the best of luck as they continue to serve the community from the building they now own.”
