TIME TUNNEL Nanjing, China
Shatang Dininghall is a traditional chinese building designed by a famous chinese architect Yang Tingbao in 1957 on the south end of main campus axis. As a part of the historic complex, the renovation needs to satisfy the additional functions of students' activities as well as reserves the original building. The main concept is to create a continuous 'time tunnel' connecting the old and the new to make them as one whole architecture, which also provides a rich space experience for users, as they uncon iously travel in time.

Materiality The original building has gray brick facades and dark tile pitched roof, which present a strong sense of materiality. In stead of mimic the appearance, the added part shows the power of immateriality but creates the similar central space to echo the composition of original building. Structure The steel structure system of the new part is totally seperated from the old concrete and brick system, to demostrate a clear structure and construction logic.

URBAN ACUPUNCTURE Nanjing, China
Instead of replanning a large urban areas to temporize changes of urbanization, which will need a long period of construction and cause inconvenience to the local residents, urban acupuncture is regarded as a more appropriate approach in central city renewal. Urban acupuncture is a socio-environmental theory that uses smallscale interventions to transform the larger urban context. Just as the practice of acupuncture is aimed at relieving stress in the human body, the goal is to relieve stress in the built environment. It is intended to produce small-scale but socially catalytic interventions in the urban fabric. The space in between two gated communities gives a potential to insert a continuous footpath inside a city block and when the informal constructions are removed, functional modules can be placed along the walking system with the aim of satisfying the local residents' needs.
