From your Pastor’s Heart

jhenry@fbcfairhope.org Another Vacation Bible School is behind us. However, what happened has a forever impact. Bible verses were learned, songs about Jesus were sung, and decisions for Christ were made. All the work and effort by so many willing workers had a spiritual pay-off. Who received the greatest blessing? When God uses someone to touch another for Christ, it is a joy like no other. Thank you workers, but I have a feeling you have felt His approval. Father’s Day has its moments. A driving need of our time is for fathers to be the spiritual leaders God has called them to be. At the end of both morning services, there were fathers, grandfathers and great grandfathers being prayed over. May God bless each family to have those men to be bearers of the name of Christ in their homes. In two weeks, we will celebrate the Lord’s Supper and have Baptism. Sunday night, June 29, is a designed ordinance service to celebrate Christ’s work in our lives and in our church. If you have not yet made your decision to follow through Christian commitment with baptism, let this be your time. Come and celebrate. Also June 17-21 are the last days to have your picture made for the church directory. The use of this directory cannot be overestimated. Putting names with faces increases the fellowship level of our church family. I will continue to preach from the book of Acts on Sunday morning. We will see how God stretches Paul and Peter to move out of their comfort zones. God never calls us to be comfortable. Too many are sitting in easy chairs when life is out there on the edge, with Christ. Come and let the Holy Spirit speak power into your soul. It is amazing how much time we give to things that will come to an end. God wants us to live in His unstoppable story. When God stretches us, it is the best thing that could happen. It makes our souls come alive! This Sunday is the Sunday before Deacon Nomination (Next Sunday, June 29). Paul writes out qualification for deacons in I Timothy 3:8ff. My sermon hopefully will be a guide for you in your consideration for deacon nomination. Always make that a matter of prayer. What God can do through faithful deacons is so amazing. Have a good two weeks. Eat some silver queen corn. May God bless each of you. Your pastor, Jerry Ps. 63:1

marriage weekend @ First Strategic Planning Committee Report: Strategic Planning Update

In the February 19, 2014 issue of the First Edition, the Strategic Planning Team provided the church membership with a status report of the Capital Stewardship Campaign, and the six (6) projects which were approved by the vote of the church in May, 2013, as part of that campaign. In that report we specifically addressed the status of the purchase of the former Faith Baptist Church Building. We shared that the church would be able to purchase the 31,000 square-foot multi-purpose building and approximately eight acres of land for the price of $550,000, which is $200,000 less than the price the church membership voted to pay for the property. We will pay $100,000 in cash at the time of closing and the balance of $450,000 will be payable at the end of four years on an interest-free promissory note. We also noted that at that time a few other details of the purchase had not been finalized. Since the first of March of this year, this matter has been turned over to the attorneys representing our church and the Alabama Baptist Retirement Center (ABRC), and during that time other issues have surfaced that have yet to be fully resolved. We hope and pray that all remaining details will be settled within the next few weeks and that the sale can be concluded after the ABRC obtains the necessary approvals from the city/county of the plat subdividing the property. In His Service, Lawson Swearingen, Chairman Strategic Planning Team
