Kidwell Farm at Frying Pan Farm Park

Meet draft horses, chickens, peacocks, rabbits, sheep, goats, cows and pigs at Kidwell farm, Frying Pan Farm Park’s 1930’s era working farm. Pet the friendly farm animals, take a wagon ride or watch the farm hands at work. At the Kidwell Farm House, you can sit for a spell on the porch or take a tour to see how farm families lived in the 1930s. Kidwell Farm is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. More information about the park’s historic schoolhouse, blacksmith shop and meeting house is available on the web. Groups are welcome, and school programs are available by appointment. Call for tour information.
The Country Store

Located in the former Vocational Agriculture Shop (c.1920), the Frying Pan Country Store is a one-stop shop with something for everyone - books of all kinds, toys, snacks and drinks, decorative items for the home and unique gifts. The Country Store is open Monday-Thursday, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. and Friday-Sunday 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

Farm Skills - Wool Crafting
(7-14 yrs.) Sheep are important animals to livestock farmers as they can provide milk, meat, and fiber. Learn to wash fleece by hand and discover how to prepare wool for spinning by using a drum carder. Then, make a hand spun wool bracelet or felted wool flower. One adult must accompany each registered child in this program.

Celebrate in the Parks!
Join us to learn about a different element of farm life each week. Children will get to spend time with a different farm animal each session. Children’s Programs Farm Skills- Animal Caretaker
(7-14 yrs.) Our farmers make taking care of the animals look easy. Here is your chance for a behind the scenes farm tour to see all the hard work that goes into raising our farm animals. Participants tour our feed room, visit our animal areas, meet farm animals, and learn the different management practices that we use to keep the animals happy and healthy. One adult must attend with a registered child in this program.

Into The Woods at Frying Pan Farm Park
(All Ages) Celebrate the National Cherry Blossom festival with this free event at Frying Pan Farm Park. We invite you to trek on our nature trail to experience the changes of spring. Visit stations peppered throughout the trail to build a fairy house, help tally migratory and year round resident birds, and search for critters in the soil and water. Enjoy Japanese teas at the historic Frying Pan Meeting House. Stop by the Indoor Arena first for a map and instructions.

Historical Farming - Our Horses!
(7-Adult) Meet Frying Pan Park’s two draft horses, Jeff and Charlie, and learn how farmers in the past used horse teams like them to do the work of the farm. Take a tractor ride to our crop fields, where our famers will be waiting with Jeff and Charlie to show you how they harness them, attach them to farm equipment and have them work in a field. See them in action and then meet them up close! Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Earth Day - Rebuilding Our Forest
(7-Adult) Did you know that Frying Pan Farm Park has one of the rarest types of forest in the world? Celebrate Earth Day with a special tour of our amazing woods and learn how we have volcanoes to thank for our forest type as well as the ways our forest promotes the most diversity of life. Hear about our on-going project to restore the woods and how you can get involved to help! Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Campfire Wagon Ride
