Doug Williams:
Soul City:
Chicago born R‘n’B soul artist Doug Williams’ infectious personality and musical talent are formidable fixtures on the Australian Music scene. This bass-playing singer’s musical journey spans two continents and an impressive roster of collaborations.
Soul City is a nine-piece band based on the beautiful Fraser Coast. Their diverse range of music encompasses rock to 60’s disco, through to popular hits by Beyonce, Michael Buble and more. This diverse band of professional musicians have played throughout the world both as individuals and with other performing groups. The Fraser Coast is proud to call these professional players locals - rarely is there an opportunity in any town to form a group of such high quality musicians. Lead singer Brian Speirs was one of the first graduates of Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts in 1999 established by Sir Paul McCartney. His performance credits include playing as the support act for INXS on their 1993 ‘Get Out of The House’ tour and singing backing vocals with Michael Bolton on his 1994 tour of the UK.
Before emigrating from America, Ray Charles taught Doug to play left-handed swing base and he played for Ray in recording sessions. Doug has also toured with such greats as Stevie Wonder, Tina Turner and James Brown. Doug was also a contestant on 2014 season of ‘The Voice’ where Australia fell in love with Papa D and his soulful vocals as he shook things up with his own rendition of ‘The Way We Were’ and ‘Love the One You’re With’. More recently, Doug supported Taylor Dane, Boney M and Hot Chocolate on their national tours with his five piece band ‘Doug Williams & the Mix’. The Mix includes some of Australia’s finest musicians including Sera Rose, Sam McNally, John Adams and Josue Vilches who deliver all of your favourites from Barry White to Bruno Mars in their own funk and soul style. Doug Williams is versatile, writing his own songs and producing his own recordings. He boasts a talent that is admired by his peers and enjoyed by audiences all over the world.
