Running the Race with Perseverance

2015 ANNUAL REPORT

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a greaT cloud of wiTnesses, leT us Throw off everyThing ThaT hinders and The sin ThaT so easily enTangles. and leT us run wiTh perseverance The race marked ouT for us.

hebrews 12:1

As a college graduate, I had big dreams! When my father asked me to settle in West Texas and help a business that was started by a number of West Texas funeral home owners, this was the last place I thought my dreams

could be fulfilled. Still, the prospect of working alongside my biggest mentor was appealing, so I acquiesced. There was no way I could have imagined 30 years ago the strides this business could take and the many achievements that have been accomplished. The Bible tells us it’s “more blessed to give

than to receive” (Acts 20:35). I’m deeply grateful for our board of directors who allow me to set aside a generous donations budget from our annual

revenues so we can experience Acts 20:35 first-hand! We truly are “running

the race with perseverance” in our pursuits of helping people. It’s a privilege

Mission Projects

DIG also partnered with the Marriott Foundation in Aruba, where our volunteers worked side by side with hotel employees. What an amazing experience! That day, volunteers from all over the country came together to build a greenhouse, clear debris, lay tile, and do some landscaping. For many, it was the highlight of the trip.

Ted Beck, a client of FDLIC who joined the mission trip to Imeldahof said, “It was easy for my wife Connie and me to welcome the opportunity to serve at the Imeldahof Children’s Home. God has blessed all of us beyond limits, and we need to be able to give back and be the heart of Christ in action. I think the memories of that day will remain in my heart. I will always remember my relationship with all the team that worked so well together for the common good; how wonderful the compound looked after the brush was cleared, the greenhouse was built, the cottages were cleaned, and the floors were tiled; and the smiles, laughter, and joy on the faces of the children during the water games. Happiness knows no boundaries…no language barriers…no cultural differences. That day, I saw joy within the hearts of the workers and in the hearts of the children. That was priceless. That was love in action.” This was a first and a way Directors Foundation can be involved in helping people (we’re not just about giving money)!

“Our biggest regret was that we had to turn people away,” said Jeff Stewart, FDLIC Vice President of Marketing & CMO, who helped coordinate the trip to Imeldahof. “We learned that the interest in this type of mission project was much bigger than we expected. But we are already thinking about next year, and looking for new opportunities to serve.”

A few years ago, our leadership team established long-range plans for the company, including a desire to participate as a company in a mission project. We didn’t know what it would look like, who would be involved, or what to expect. We just knew that we wanted to organize a mission trip or service project that would be a blessing to others and would allow us to work together toward a common goal: to advance the Kingdom of God and to be the hands and feet of Christ. In 2015, that dream became a reality. We determined to dedicate one day during our annual incentive trip to give our employees, clients, and sales professionals an opportunity to give back. We decided to partner with Imeldahof Children’s Home, an orphanage in Aruba. Next, we needed volunteers. We sent out an email late on a Friday expecting 40 to 50 responses. By Monday morning, we had 80 people who were interested in helping! We had more volunteers than projects!
