AL AIN BERTRAND La peinture d'Alain BERTRAND conjugue toute l'iconographie du rêve américain avec une passion héritée de l'enfance pour les années 50. Né en 1946, Alain BERTRAND est très tôt envoyé en pension dans un collège près d'Evreux. Cet isolement et la proximité de la base militaire américaine furent décisives dans la formation de ses goûts : il découvre le rock 'n roll, la musique d'Elvis Presley, les cigarettes et … les voitures américaines. Un premier voyage aux U.S.A., dans les années 70 marquera définitivement le jeune peintre qui entame parallèlement une carrière d'illustrateur. Il n'aura de cesse d'y retourner pour s'imprégner toujours davantage de cette culture typique, notamment dans deux de ses régions de prédilection : l'Arizona et le Nouveau Mexique. L'artiste, nourrissant sa peinture tant de ses pérégrinations que de son goût pour la photographie et le cinéma, a construit une œuvre forte et variée, entre icônes américaines (autoroutes, stations essence, taxis new yorkais) et scènes de la vie courante (rues de New York, Chicago ou Boston). Alain BERTRAND reçut un second choc esthétique, à l'occasion d'un voyage à Cuba à la fin des années 80. Avec la vie quotidienne à La Havane, un nouveau grand volet thématique se développe rapidement dans sa peinture. La chaleur des couleurs environnantes et cette impression que le temps s'y est arrêté sont, pour lui, une source d'inspiration forte. Ses cadrages quasi-cinématographiques et son parti pris fréquent pour un traité en noir et blanc le distinguent des autres peintres hyper-réalistes et confèrent à l'art d'Alain BERTRAND une valeur de témoignage. Toutes contemporaines, ces illustrations d'un passé nostalgique appellent chez chacun d'entre nous rêve et évasion. Alain Bertrand est né en 1946. Il vit et travaille près de Paris

AL AIN BERTRAND French painter Alain BERTRAND's art blends in the very symbols of the American dream with a passion for the 50s since his childhood. Born in 1946, Alain BERTRAND was sent during his youth to a private college near Evreux. Living isolated and close to the American military base has been essential in the evolution of his tastes: he discovers rock 'n roll, Elvis Presley's music, cigarettes and ‌ American cars. A first trip to the United States in the 70s highly strikes the young painter who starts during the same period a career of illustrator. Through his numerous journeys overseas, he becomes more and more accustomed to this typical culture, particularly in two of his favourite States : Arizona and New Mexico. Nourishing his art both with his foreign experiences and with his taste for photography and cinema, the artist builds up a strong and differentiated body of work, ranging from American icons (highways, gas stations, yellow cabs) to daily life scenes (New York, Chicago or Boston). Alain BERTRAND had a second aesthetic shock during a trip to Cuba at the end of the 80s. With the everyday life in Havana, a new major theme appears in his painting. The warmth of surrounding colours and the feeling that time has stopped are a strong source of inspiration to him. His almost cinematographic close-ups and his deliberate use of a black and white palette distinguish him from other hyperrealist painters and create in Alain Bertrand's work a witness-like dimension. These contemporary illustrations of a nostalgic past invite us to dream and wander around. Alain Bertrand was born in 1946. He lives and works near Paris.
