About me / PERSONAL PROFILE
ABOUT ME I am a young italian master graduated in Architecture at the Polytechnic of Turin. I’m approaching to the world with great desire to learn and improve my skills, taking to the limit my knowledge in different fields. I am not afraid to face new experiences and solve new problems that may arise, because there is always something to learn in every day of life. Improve my self in every aspect has always been my com mitment and that is what I am trying to do today.
More
Since childhood, I have developed a passion and a natural inclination towards creativity, problem-solving and the realization of works capable of stimulating not only pragmatic and practical skills but also those that are more abstracts. because of these personal characteristics, it was natural and spontaneous to choose a course of study in the architectural field, which due to its peculiarity stimulates the person from both a technical-scientific and a creative point of view. During the academic years, I had the opportunity to discover my natural inclination for the appreciation of beauty, I discovered my love for the details and my continuous search for perfection. My unstoppable desire to improve myself has led me to always seek the achievement of the best possible result without taking under consideration any compromise. Alongside my academic commitments, I have often put myself at stake both in the workplace environment and in the sports, making experiences not strictly connected to my studies but which have enhanced my cultural and personal knowledge. Besides, in recent years I discovered new passions that can easily be combined with the world of architecture in a relationship of advancement and mutual discovery. Among these passions have a crucial role photography, stimulated by the need for visualization of the architectural projects realized, and graphic design, a tool capable of presenting my ideas and works.

Universal Design as instrument of design: a new urban integrated project for Piazza, district of Mondovì About the project
The thesis work presented here outlines the natural continuation of one my work experiences and the in-depth study carried out during my studies: the International Accessible Tourism Workshop in Mondovì. The topics covered on that occasion defined the corollary of the basic theoretical knowledge and practices on which is built the present work, while the learning experience and the design in group defined the starting point for the project proposal. The crucial elements of the work are the

multidisciplinary and holistic approach to solving and analyzing the work context: this in order to present a more complete and organic final project, without utopian and self-referential extravagances, but genuinely situated in the reality of places with particular historical and artistic interest, as well as in a possible municipal development program of the same neighborhood.

The vertical connection represents a real opportunity to create continuity and connection within this part of the city. The only inclined lift that leads to the height of the so-called “Ex Orfane building, did not seem sufficient to guarantee autonomy and
functionality in accessing the raised path around the walls of the citadel. The overcoming of the remaining difference in level has been solved by designing a vertical lift. The elevator acts as a real interlude in the hypothetical path to the central part of Piazza.

from CHINESE TRADITIONAL DISTRICT to a creative city with a urban regeneration project About the project
The work adopts the knowledge and the expertise coming from the fields of architecture, urban management and digital sociology. At this point the design is seen as a complex activity that requires multidisciplinary capacities and cooperation of various policy-makers: the choice of alternative propositions; the definition of priorities when dealing among stakeholders or with limited resources; the determination of appropriate use of cultural and environmental assets; taxonomy of total economic values; considering monetary together with cultural values; the

analysis of major impacts and effects of the urban significant project. The overall goal of this work is to elaborate a complex urban project, starting from the knowledge and the specific skills provided by two subjects: the Architectural Design and the Economic Evaluation of the projects. Of course, it includes the design of an architectural object, developed through techniques, methodologies and the specific abilities of the European architect, starting from a common masterplan to a comprehensive personal proposal.

The city
The core of interest is the morphological, environmental, social and economic asset of an area in the south part of Nanjing (PRC), located at the interior side of the ancient city walls. A workers’ houses slum has occupied the Hehua Tang area (area of the Lotus Pond), and it is waiting today for a regeneration project, that could be different from the ordinary settlement made by tall anonymous buildings and also from the “fake” restorations in Chinese Traditional style.
MOre views
The multidisciplinary approach is evidenced by the numerous works carried out before the project. Among the topics, stand out: the formal conception of different urbanity from a constant number of inhabitants; the standardization of the parts in the project through the construction of habited modules, for lowering the construction costs; the design of advertising campaigns related to both the public administration and the housing sales; the use of modern and interactive media for communicating the project and its diffusion (videos and interactive apps), as well as utopian visions of the city of the future in which the project will be inserted. 20

human scale building
The personal project is constructed on a trapezoidal-shaped area with vehicular roads on the sides. A large promenade runs on the right side, perpendicular to the lot and longitudinally to the entire project area concerned by the master plan. The concept originates from the Chinese houses’ typology, then breaks that structure into parts and redefines it starting with the inclination of the road axes that surround the lot. The housing module is simple but sufficiently articulated to enjoy a favorable relationship between private and public areas. The common areas are situated in the centre of the courtyard or on the edges of the slat housing solution that vary according to the available space. Wood is an essential material in the project: not only is it an external finish but it is the structural backbone of the module itself.

NEW EXHIBIT space for the museum of sciences academy in its historical palace About the project
The final project explores issues related to internal public and private spaces, integrated with specific elements and practices of the exhibition, exhibit and retail. In particular, the design experience refers to both the design of new public spaces and the renovation of existing areas of historical and artistic value. From this assumption are inserted the typical themes of the preparation both for methodological aspects, useful for designing and equipping the spaces destined for permanent and temporary

exhibitions, and for technical-design aspects, useful in considerations and evaluations related to the different scales of detail. The central point of the design experience is the recovery in the exhibition hall of the new spaces on the ground floor of the Academy of Sciences of Turin, located inside a sixteenth-century building of considerable artistic, cultural and social value, not only for the association but also for the city itself.

In the second room, with temporary contents, three quarter rotation themes are alternate between those proposed in the permanent part. The temporality of the second room is based on the use of an innovative display system, characterised by multimedia and interactive material with which the visitor can interact freely. 28

Inside the room for the temporary exhibition, we find the multimedia part of it. A large screen with two interactive stations guarantees involvement and entertainment. Visual quality is assured by the use of two projectors chosen to best integrate with the projected curved screen.
Directional loudspeakers involve the two stations in a distinct way. The use of multimedia glasses for augmented reality is conceived, as well as electronic tabs for the storytelling management. The constructive morphology of the screen is in line with the
technological choices made for the first room. A metallic framed structure guarantees the selfsupporting and maximum reversibility of the workstation.

Regenerating the public city. new neighborhood home with city’s landscape impact for the Vallette district in Turin About the project
During the 20th century, the “public city” was an essential laboratory for both social and architectural experimentation. Today, these entire neighbourhoods are often incorporated by the consolidated city, forming a portion of high historical value, but protection and interventions are required. The project takes note of the fact that the season of the extensive, expansive interventions of the city is to be considered in favour of a more sustainable growth that places these places at the
FEDERICO OTTONELLO
centre of virtuous projects of urban regeneration. Today, talking about these topics means turning to what already exists, favouring processes of architectural, social and cultural grafting. The project presented here applies these considerations and ideas to the Vallette district of Turin, proposing solutions to different scales of intervention, from the building to the urban one attempting to evaluate all the potential transformations in a holistic and properly systemic view.

NEW SPACES
The project aims to act directly on the most compromised space: the square. The intervention consists in the rearrangement of the ground with new shapes and materials, the relocation of the postal center and the redefinition of the square center as a focal point of the intervention with the proposal of a wide coverage intended not only as a shelter but also as a new fruition and interaction experience of the underlying area. Finally, three separate buildings are included below the roof itself to contain all the new functions envisioned. From a formal point of view we have played on the opposition of the parts: monolithic and simple buildings are opposed to the complexity of the roof.

Within the project proposal, there are many considerations regarding the future of construction and the possibility of answering to new and different needs in future years. The attention to this is manifested through the constructive choice of the slats: massive and isolated external structure, the internal dry-built arrangement with the possibility of succeeding and non-invasive modular modifications and large rooms with the possibility of further subdivision already planned. The temporal sustainability of the work is reflected through the covering, coated with copper with oxidation already begun but unfinished, which will be shifting and changeable throughout the course of its existence
