We believe that flexibility is vital when organising a wedding. This is why, within the confines of any Faraway Wedding package, we allow room for you to customise and personalise to realise your dream wedding.

We welcome your choice of colour scheme and will tie our floral and other decoration to suit this. Couples can provide their vows or use our pre-written vows to ensure that you have the ceremony that reflects the uniqueness of your wedding. We also offer a variety of ceremonial setups and designs that are exclusive to Faraway clients.

All Faraway wedding packages are designed to offer a complete wedding experience and work well in any circumstances, from just the couple to larger groups of up to 50 guests. We do not tie you into anything else other than the package of your choice and if you’re having guests, a guest package.

Unlike hotels and resorts on the island, we do not attempt to make a profit on any drinks and alcohol served. Uniquely, the villa alone operates a wholesale bar system where we calculate the bar set-up costs based on the number of guests attending. Drinks are then purchased on your behalf at wholesale prices; we also don’t charge any corkage on any items brought in.

Similarly, as independent wedding planners, we don’t seek to tie you into specific accommodation. Clients opting for a Faraway Villa Wedding package can have the freedom of choosing where they want to stay while they’re on the island. However we can also help with recommendations and group rates.

Given the uniqueness of every wedding, each member of the Faraway wedding team is trained, experienced and dedicated to ensuring that your wedding day goes smoothly and to plan. Our team shines, not just at the pre-planning stage but also in the on-day coordination and execution.

5. After the wedding ceremony, a bottle of champagne will be brought for the groom to open and your celebrant will lead everyone in a champagne toast and confetti throw.

1. (From bottom left going clockwise) All wedding ceremonies in Thailand are preceded by the traditional long drum procession featuring Thai musicians and dancers.

In any Buddhist ceremony, it is appropriate that the monks are elevated above the guests and incense and candles are lit before the Buddha image to start the wedding ceremony.

The head monk then ties white string around the union loop placed on the couple’s heads and then to the hands of all the monks, and finally to an elevated point to signify that the gods and spirits can gain access to bless their union.

2. To complete the wedding ceremony, the head monk will use a paste to apply 3 small dots to the foreheads of the bride and groom. The mark is usually created with the butt end of the candle.

The lotus flower features prominently in Buddhist ceremonies and is the symbol in Buddhism for enlightenment and purity of the mind

At the end of the wedding ceremony, the monks will leave and it is customary for everyone to wai goodbye to the monks as they go.

3. (from top to bottom) The water blessing ceremony commences with floral garlands being placed around the neck of the bride and groom.

The most senior person will act as the leader of the event and will soak the couple’s hands with water from a conch shell to wish them good luck. Then each guest repeats the gesture, providing each person with an opportunity to share a brief moment with the couple. When the last one has wished them good luck, the water blessing ceremony is over.

4. After the water blessing ceremony, the bride and groom will perform two further significant acts to confirm and celebrate their union. Firstly, a love tree is planted and then two caged birds are released. Both these acts are considered to be good luck at the beginning of a marriage.

1. As monks chant a series of wedding blessings and prayers in the ancient Sanskrit language of Pali, they will typically include reference to the Lord Buddha, his teachings (Dharma), the community of the practicing Buddhists (Sangha) and the basic Buddhist code of ethics.

2. The monks will perform the final recitation of Pali scriptures intended to bring merit and blessings to the new couple. They will end the prayer by sprinkling holy water (nam mon) on the couple and the guests for good luck.

he Faraway Legal Marriage Service is a comprehensive optional package which ensures a completely legal marriage for foreigners – both in Thailand and in your home country.

Rather than going through the lengthy legal process yourselves, the Faraway Legal Marriage Service leaves you free to enjoy your travels and most importantly, your wedding ceremony.

The Faraway Legal Representative will meet you at your embassy in Bangkok and where possible, will guide you through the necessary process of obtaining the required paperwork.

There’s no legal requirement for most nationals to stay in Thailand for any period of time prior to getting married. All that’s usually

As part of the service, the documents will be translated and then taken to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for processing and endorsement. This will take approximately two days before the documents are then couriered to our office on Koh Samui.

Faraway will have a meeting with the Koh Samui City Council, where your paperwork will be verified. Arrangements will be made for the Registrar to be present at your marriage ceremony with your marriage certificate, ready to be signed.

After you’ve signed them, you will have two copies of the marriage certificate in Thai. The cost of translating these into English is included in the cost of the service. The translations usually take up to three days from the date they’re sent to Bangkok to be ready.

To opt for the Faraway Legal Marriage

Service, you will need to be in Bangkok at least six working days prior to your wedding date on Koh Samui. You only need to stay in Bangkok for a maximum of two days or less, and you can then continue your travels. Your documents will be ready for signing at your wedding ceremony six working days later.

At Faraway Weddings, we plan all our weddings by using dedicated planning software which has been exclusively and specifically created for us. Our concept is to prepare and plan in advance as much of the wedding as we can, leaving as little as possible till the last minute.

On payment of your deposit, you will receive a username and password allowing access to the extensive online ‘client tools’ section. From here you can browse all the options available for your wedding experience as well as do the following:: • • • • • • •

Send out save-the-dates and invites online Look through a large selection of flower photos and designs Look through a large selection hair styles Create your own vows from a pre-written selection or even write your own Choose from menus for your reception dinner Organise your guests and make a seating plan Preview and choose your ceremonial music

Your selections will be monitored and a quote then prepared based on your chosen options and services. Where necessary, we will also ask for additional information to complete your wedding planner.

Once the planner is completed, a pre-meeting is arranged at a date which is convenient for everyone; usually a few days after you arrive on the island. At the pre-meeting, we will run through the day’s order of service, finalise any last minute details and confirm that everything is as it should be.

All that’s needed to lock-in the date of your choice, and secure our services in organizing your wedding, is a non-refundable deposit of 10,000 baht. No further payment is required until 30 days before the date of your wedding when 50% of the total amount is payable. The final outstanding balance is settled two to three days before the wedding at the pre-meeting.

Faraway Weddings never organizes more than one wedding a day so, once a deposit is paid, that date is dedicated for your wedding alone. A wedding date is not confirmed until a deposit is received. However, upon payment of the deposit, a wedding date can be moved, subject to availability, at no additional cost.
