IMMEDIATE RELEASE JUNE 2012
Divide and Conquer Spring Summer 12/13 Collection. Venroy Boardshorts
The essence of Venroy is based on relaxed Australian beach and poolside culture. The revolutionary fusion of fashion and beachwear has conceived a pop culture menswear label which compliments the Australian summer lifestyle whilst providing a much-needed injection of style to the beach landscape. . The quintessential Australian men’s swimwear brand is headed by young entrepreneurs Theo Smallbone and Sean Venturi. Contemporary, playful and stylish - Venroy’s design aesthetic has been characterised by their signature block colour designs. This season’s Divide and Conquer Spring/Summer 12/13 designs have drawn influence from architectural shapes whilst continuing the brand focus on cut, functionality and durability. The result is an effortless combination of inspired prints and subtle block colours, contrasting waistbands and new colour injections of pistachio, tobacco and soft burgundy. Inspiration has been sourced from architectural shapes and design. Middle Eastern patterns including Turkish and Iranian mosaic tiles, sandstone and concrete walls have been used. All of these structural and conceptual designs have been appropriated into the now signature graphic prints. New collection must-have patterns include the Stingray Steve, Iranian Tile and Sancta Sophia. “We have been collecting boardshorts since our teenage years and discovered that there was a gap in the market for fashionable, comfortable and durable board shorts. We have crafted multi-purpose board shorts to wear in the pool or ocean which can dry in an instant as you move onto a bar or restaurant. With our technically advanced fast drying fabrications our shorts can be worn in the surf to the bar at night,” says Theo and Sean. Following the first successful year of operations, 2012 has seen the label being stocked in David Jones, Theo Smallbone be nominated as a Cleo Bachelor of the year finalist (Sean was in LA keeping up with the demand so missed out) and the addition of the basics line which includes 110 gsm super fine cotton singlets. Venroy have also introduced the Versa short, a tailored and more dressy version of the signature Venroy boardshort minus the elasticised waistband, available in baby burgundy, charcoal and orange. Australia’s iconic boardshorts are now must-have exports. Launching with three accounts in 2011, the brand now has more than 60 stockists including David Jones with new stores located in the USA, Japan, Canada and Spain. Venroy’s largest United States stockists are Fred Segal, Ron Herman, Kitson, American Rag and W Hotels. Success can be attributed to the setting up of their Los Angeles headquarters where Venroy discovered a strong synergy between the Californian and Australian beach and poolside culture. Venroy’s influence has even reached the poolside hot spots at renowned Las Vegas clubs via exclusive co-branded shorts produced especially for the Tao Beach Club at the Venetian Hotel, Marquee at the Cosmopolitan and the Bellagio Resort and Casino. “The shorts can withstand sun, chlorine and salt damage offering something new for the global market”, claim the designers who personally endurance tested their shorts in the spa, beach and pools. The workmanship is unrivaled. The core range which is made in Australia from nine different Japanese Juki machines to construct one design that features two deep-side pockets for keys, triple chainlock stitching, flexible waistband, quick dry peach face polyester and vibrant contrast lining.
