One thing we can assume from the period we are living is a massification of buildings designed for consumption. The most important exemple of that is the shopping mall. They are built like containers, absolutely controled, extremely closed to the outside and with an interior presenting the maximum of atificiality. The project presented makes a critique to that process. As a result the project proposes 3 guidelines to go in the opposite way of the contractors thinking and the acutal buildings of the city. The first of them was to mix uses in a way that the building stayed open for 24 hours a day. These programs needed to function together, but most importantly needed to have different opening hours to compose the building. Other guideline of the project was to have very large entrances, windows and terraces, so the building could connect constantly to the site. The importance of that kind of concern is to invite people to be inside, and at the same time could see outside or be seen from people from outside. The last concern has been with the flow of people. the project needs to favor some connections that was not well solved in the area. For this reason one of the works was to understand the existing flows and to project some others to facilitate the people who pass by in the site..

Porto marvilha_ Name of the Project from the city hall of Rio de Janeiro to the port area. It is been built since 2011 as a consequence of the olimpic games and the world cup.
SITE - RELATION TO THE CITY AND WATERFRONT
Transportation_ The transportation in the region is still very incipient. The area serves only as a passage which helps in the degradation of the area. Park and the market_
E
E
According to the project “Porto Maravilha” on this terrain is planned a great park. One of the assumptions for the project is that the park does not meet in full the local population needs. This way a market with its constant use could atract more people and feed the park.

Rhythm_ The harbor waterfront of Rio de Janeiro has a very well determined rhythm by existing sheds. The project proposes to break this rhythm. This is made proposing a gap that precedes the building that has a distinct volumetry from the others. Skyline_ It was taken into consideration for this project the constructive potential proposed by the “Porto Maravilha”.
The project is located in a terrain with one of the largest constructive potential. Although the market was designed low to preserve the view of one of the reminiscent hills of the natural terrain of rio de janeiro Waterfront Composition_ As a result, The building stands out in the waterfront, it became a focal point. All in all it created a goal at the end of the walkway of the port and composed with the museum of tomorrow the waterfront promenade.

Another important premise was to maintain and strengthen some connections. The existing viaduct, which is an important road connecting for the city was maintained, it was important to give an answer to this dificult crossing. This connection was facilitated and strengthened with a wide walkway designed as a continuation of the building. That connects the city to the waterfront and thus the market. Another important flow to be mantained was the continuity of the waterfront walkway. Despite the large presence of the market, marking an end to the waterfront, the continuation was preserved by twisting the building and projecting a large deck that connects one side to another.

RELATIONS_ WHAT WE SEE FROM THE MARKET Much of the roof juts out over the waterfront, promoting this way a large area with shadow, a sort of a large terrace by the sea, ensuring that the market is a nice place to stay for long meals, the main purpose of the object designed. The balconies will also include bars and places for parties, preserving the vocation of the port for nightlife

HYPERBOLOID PILLAR An important topic of the project were the pilars of market. It was need a structure that were able to suport the beams in several points, but it couln`t touch the ground in such many places that would preclude the market to exist. therefore the metal structure needed to have the base smaler than the top and so needed to have a way to stabilize itself. After some studies the solution based on a hyperboloid brought to the pilar the stability needed and concentrated the supports on the ground floor.

This project is an propusal to a modern building, constructed in a modern urbanization. One of the chacteristics of the modern period is the zoonification, the monumentalization and the importance of promenades. We understand that today the modern building does not full meet its users. There is such long distances to reach each zone. So, without devaluing the historical context of FAU, which excels in extreme zonification we propose a modular movable structure, like a furniture that could be closer to the users. Another premise of this work was to understand the diferents scales of the hole complex of the university campus. The importance of that was to try to make a link between the scale of modern urbanization with the building. Finally we studied the flows of people to positionate the modular structures in places that realy meet the uses of the building.

BUILDING FUNCTIONING One of the modernist concepts of the building are based on a very racional separation of functions, this leads to a centralization of services. What we conclude about the building is a constant try of descentralization with several inappropriate occupations. Thereby it is proposed a modular structure to encompass and adapt this differents services 26 // 75

This is a mix-used building that contains library, auditorium, classrooms, offices, reastaurant and a theater. It was consieved to atend diferent areas of the industry production such as Fashion, design, cinema, theater, games. The site is located in a dense important area of rio the janeiro and shared the terrain with a historical building. So we had two diferent starting points. We needed to valorize it, and at the same time had to extremely open an tempting for the people that passed by on the street. The building had to work as a civic plaza, in a way that makes people meet inside it.

MAIN GUIDELINES The project was guided by three main guidelines, first of all, was the maintenance of a trio of large trees located approximately in the center of the land to be exploited to its full constructive potential. Another important premise was the alignment of the inner facade with the exinting mansion. The last one was to create a new acess to the building to be connect to the gardens of the existing mansion without entering the building.
COURTYARD
Thus setting a building on “u” shape with an inner courtyard open toward the palace and its gardens.
FREE GROUND FLOOR
The ground floor of the building was designed to be as free and open as possible, in order to bring in the gardens of the palace and the public space of the street Guilhermina Guinle. This decision integrates the building with its surrounding and generously offers the people of botafogo a public area and a new cultural landmark. The most public rooms is placed here, showrooms, the library and the auditórium that we perceive the possibility of permanent use, either as audience or as a public place for users of the building.
36 // 75
Felipe Guimarães portfolio
RELATIONS OF THE BUILDING WITH THE SITE
In order to have the greatest possible amount of views and visibility from inside to outside showing of the intense public caracteristic of the building it was designed spaces like terraces, glass prism, and big windows that exposes for the people passing by the diferent uses of it. Like the restaurant above the theater with its big terrace and the foyer of the theater made interely with glass.
SUSTAINABLE DECISIONS
it was proposed a wrapper of stainless steel microperforated sheet, which functions as a protective skin from sunlight, while permitting the free passage of air. Thus was minimized the area subject to the use of air conditioning by adopting the concept of passive cooling. in the rooftop was designed openings that allow the entry of natural light and exhaust indoor air. This coverage will capture rainwater for reuse, and is covered by vegetation to insulate environments under it. Another important characteristic of the vegetation is canceling the ‘heat island effect’ to reduce the impact of the ‘foot print’ of the new building.

peça = object, central and dominant, which divides the spaces and folds to create unexpected spaces. peça = part of a whole, parts of the bathroom distinguish the use of each space. peça = a game, labyrinthine space that leads and play with the users. peça = the play, a scenario for the mostpersonal activities of each The elaboration of this concept, leads us to a exploration in this form in a way that would allow, among its folds and openings generate spaces with varying degrees of intimacy. The differences in height follow the same logic, besides create and close views. The concept is an object that is generated by a set of folds and is placed in the center of the original volume, generated by the union of male and female old restrooms. this new object is made of a bright orange silestone, unlike the shroud that is treated with a sober and dull gray silestone

The snowy coast where the new Comandante Ferraz Antarctic Station will be built, represents a great challenge for architects use to urban spaces, historical constructed landmarks, visible limits, traffic and crowds. Efficient materials, manufacturing and assembly technologies, comfort without waste, appropriate constructive reasons and extra care with a fragile context were important determinants of the proposed architecture. The implantation of the main building took into account the limits imposed by zoning, the topography, the path of the sun, the prevailing winds, the existing set of diesel oil tanks, the north and south lakes, the sea and the space occupied by the primitive helipad and the primitive station. Taken together these elements make sense, allowing an understanding of the site as a place that has history and suggests hypotheses. There are boundaries, invisible or not, but they exist. These elements will join the first and condition the composition of the architecture.

The linear development of the plan, parallel to the west side of zone 1 and equidistant of the helipad and fuel tanks, resulted in the best direction for the use of the land. The confrontation of this solution with the requirements of daylighting demonstrated the wisdom of the chosen position. The deviation of the major axis of the construction in approximately 20 degrees toward the northeast allows sunlight to reached the east and west facades in equal amounts. The development of the building in confrontation with the rising topography to south, resulted in a solution for the building in levels in great harmony with the zoning.

segmentation The main building is linear and segmented, it is served by a hallway that cross the entire building in its largest dimension. This hallway conects all the blocks, the social one, the laboratories and the dormitories. building flows The importance of the social block in the proposed complex is funcional and simbolic. To the building accommodate into the topography it was made a solutuion in two levels, the dormitories is in the upper floor and the laboratories are in the lower level. The social block have both levels and articulate both floors. Thus, with a diferent geometry it is highlighted in the complex and assumes the role of the main entrance.

My professional life was based on a constant formal investigation of architecture with the usage of fisical models. With that is possible to try a series of options and verify the consequences of each attempt. For each project many models are done, including concept models, general models and construction models. All of this make the projects a constant reserch for new formulas. By doing models the construction itself configure a constant study of the best solution, and evolute a lot in the course.
