About

Having experience as a military and martial artist, I am disciplined and motivated. I always try to pursue my goals and complete them in the best possible way, whether easy or difficult I have resilience and determination. Architecture enchants me and allows me to put dreams on paper and be a tool in people’s lives for this. I believe the mixture and balance between art and logic in architecture make it sensational and worthwhile.

PATH OF THE BLIND Sensory Pavilion

This was my final project for my bachelor’s degree in Architecture and Urban Design at the University of Brasilia.

The goal of this project goes beyond simply the creation of an exhibition pavilion; it is also my goal to look at design process differently. Though the name of this project “Path of the Blind” it’s intended to be experienced by both the visually impaired and the visually able. The visually able will come to better understeand trully how the built environment is experienced by the blind through the use of other four senses

7

C03/03 C03/03

Going through the pavilion, the sighted and the visually impaired eventually share the same experience. As one proceeds through the pavilion the light diminishes, as linear and non-linear paths with intersections and mild slopes occur. At each turn, intersection and slope decisions need to be made and other senses need to aid in that decision making process.

Within the exhibit, there are several archictectural models with descriptions of each piece within in braille. So as a visually able visitor would need the assistance of a blind visitor to understand exactly what they are seeing (role reversal), because now the visually able person is in the non-visual environment

USES

SCALE 1/300

Different exhibition techniques were designed in each planned environment and space, such as models, tactile panels, sculptures, and the use of the Montessori teaching method for the children’s playful environment. All these are aimed at the best diversity of perception for the visually impaired.

Use of simple materials at low cost were chosen, to facilitate the construction of the pavilion in cities or areas with fewer resources.

The project is carried out in a modular structure composed of elements that can be disassembled and transported to another terrain, providing the possibility of disseminating this concept and thought.

INTERMODAL TRANSIT STATION

Oasis from the sun

The site is in a very arid and hot environment in Brazil. The project is an intermodal transit center where lightrail, train, and city metro transportation meet. The proposed station site is in the center of a fast growing district. The challenge for this project, as mentioned before, is the climate, which requires shelter from the sun, good airflow and comfortable areas to relax while waiting for their ride. For patrons with a little more time on their hands in between modes travel, additional design elements were added to brake the day monotony: art galleries/ exhibits, pedestrian park, retail and dining.

The pedestrian path is very important for the project, so it was analyzed more intensely the flow present in the space, both in the place of implantation and in the surrounding urban context. In addition, profiles of potential users were analyzed to understand better the needs program and what are the essential uses that will be present

The facades and canopies were designed to provide shade and channel breazes. The use of wooden brise-soleil panels to protect the plazas from the harsh exposure.

21

Annual Temperature and level of solar incidence

On the north facades, that receive more solar exposure throughout the year, vertical wood louvers provide protection to the interior from direct sunlight, increasing the thermal comfort inside the buildings.

N 22 ANALYSIS

The geometry is arranged to maintain the circulation of the winds and a constant breeze at the upper level easterly, keeping the temperature milder.

In the Federal District, the temperature during the afternoon ranges between 75ºF to 90ºF and, with a low rate of precipitation and tipically low humidity provides a solid solar incidence.

Photovoltaic panels:

Arranged only where the roof is faced to the north facade, which receives greater direct solar incidence. Installed by means of rails screwed directly into the spans of the selfsupporting tiles.

Collecting rainwater is one of the topics designed for the maximum reuse of natural resources.

The sustainable and self-sufficient character of the building is fundamental.

Tree-type pillars allow a greater span at the base level and a smaller one at the level of the beams and roofs, also in steel that supports a more significant load with a smaller section.

CONTAINER GYM

VANDAIK

The project was designed for a Brazilian start-up that was developing a gym for small sites and differents enviromments. They needed an efficient modular design for construction. The Gym is accessed by QR Code and there are spaces for group and individual classes.

26
27

The client asked for multiple schemes that could adapt to various sizes and topography of multiple sites. All ofthese options had to be based on standard shipping container dimensions.

The most efficient way to arrange the containers is in a U shape, creating a center that can be use for outdoor activities. This is also the most economically advantageous because there is no need for a 2 floor structure. Containers Dimensions (ft):

Other Works

Brasilia International School Reception

The changes in the reception of the Brasilia International School were designed to update finishes and aesthetics, making it a more pleasant, modern, harmonious space in line with the school’s standards. The change in the floor for a new porcelain tile is necessary mainly by the poor installation conditions of the existing base and the difference in the pieces placed later.

Guardcorps Hall - Army Police Battalion of Brasilia

Lighting project carried out for the Brasilia Army Police Battalion. The scope of this project was limited to upgrading the dated finishes overhauling at the battalion entrance and an overhaul electrical and lighting in the space..

The battalion commander asked to use built-in lamps because they are the available models. Initially, the guard corps had no lining, and all the wiring was exposed, making the place dirty and poorly presented.

Bus Stop - Urban Military Sector Other Works

The project was done out during my internship with the regional commission of military works as proposed in response to the request of the army prefecture of the urban military sector and the government of the federal district of Brasilia.

The construction of a new bus stop for the military zone was requested. Still, the region is considered a historical heritage, so the point should correspond to the existing architectural layout. Thus, the bus stop was designed with simple straight lines and curves that form the pillar and cover, using concrete, including the seats and space for bike hacks and waste bins.
