BASIC ISN'T ALWAYS BAD By Marian Smith Photo by Jessica Lee

The term "basic" has gotten a bad rap. Just search its hashtag on any social media platform and you'll be berated with images of Starbucks cups, pumpkin spiced everything and catty references to ex-girlfriends. The basic bitch has been criticized for her supposedly one-note fashion sense, her inexcusable mainstream style (see: fleece pullover and black leggings). Basic doesn't have to equal bland, however. It can represent an elegant simplicity and chic less-is-more mentality. And turns out, that's what is hot in fashion right now. Some would say the basic bitch is back, or that she never left at all. Just look at some of history's best dressed women, Â Yet they didn't exactly reinvent style. They mastered staples. NOMADIC

MILLENNIALS: WHY THE FUTURE IS OURS TO MOLD AN INTERVIEW WITH VENICE VASSEL BY ANIKA FRANCES
“The millennials,” a wistful F. Scott Fitzgerald might have written today, “are different than you and me.” Managers accustomed to using certain practices to engage boomers are going to have to change their ways – and practices – if they hope to engage and retain the newest heavily scrutinized employee cohort, the wonderful millennials. This author recently completed an important study and he offers valuable advice that managers can use to make millennials feel wanted and respected. Baby boomers are currently the largest generation of active workers. Research has shown that boomers identify their strengths as organizational memory, optimism, and their willingness to work long hours. This generation grew up in organizations with large corporate hierarchies, rather than flat management structures and teamwork-based job roles.
Millennials are creating a change in how work gets done, as they work more in teams and use more technology. Their social mindset, however, is also a significant factor. As Leigh Buchanon writes in Meet the Millennials, “One of the characteristics of millennials, besides the fact that they are masters of digital communication, is that they are primed to do well by doing good. Almost 70 percent say that giving back and being civically engaged are their highest priorities.” Coupled with the socially minded millennial comes their desire to be creative. Millennials have grown up in a time where information has become available instantly. Through a Google or Wikipedia search, answers to even quite complicated questions can be found. As such, millennials have developed into a group that wants to work on new and tough problems, and ones that require creative solutions. In a 2009 article by Tamara Erickson, a millennial who had been struggling in her role, admitted to peers that,

EXPLORING THE TOPS OF THE WORLD
THE BEST SIGHTS TO SEE, AND PLACES TO PIN ON YOUR BUCKET LIST
A magazine is a publication, usually a periodical publication, which is printed or electronically published. By definition, a magazine paginates with each issue starting at page three, with the standard sizing being 8 3/8 × 10 7/8 inches.[citation needed] However, in the technical sense a journal has continuous pagination throughout a volume. Thus Business Week, which starts each issue anew with page one, is a magazine, but the Journal of Business Communication, which starts each volume with the winter issue and continues the same sequence of pagination throughout the coterminous year, is a journal. Some professional or trade publications are also peerreviewed, an example being the Journal of Accountancy. Academic or professional publications that are not peer-reviewed are generally professional magazines. That a publication calls itself a journal does not make it a journal in the technical sense; The Wall Street Journal is actually a newspaper. Immortalized in movies and magazines, young women's fashions of the 1920s set both a trend and social statement, a breaking-off from the rigid Victorian way of life. Their glamorous life style was celebrated in the feature pages and in the advertisements, where they learned the brands that best exemplified the look they sought. These young, rebellious, middleclass women, labeled "flappers by older generations, did away with the corset and donned slinky knee"
