During my architecture studies I had the opportunity to open my range of thoughts toward the design process of public spaces. Today, the interface between common ground and private property is strengthen threw liberalism and this paradigm calls for a particular attention toward public and “freedom spaces. Since, I focused each time on the relation between streets and buildings, between places and people.

local peoples. In parallel of the projecting work I used to write essay on the living condition on the XXIthe century city. I think that writing is part of the architectural work as much as drawing and reading. It is very much needed for my understanding of the world, of design and of our future as humans beings.

I tried to involve theoretical thoughts in my design on how should a society build itself threw the achievement of a common urbanity. The understanding of Henri Lefebvre and David Harvey have awaken in me a political will of opening and democracy in my research. Even though Architects work with volumes, materiality and aesthetic experimentation, I try to produce project for the people, opening a field of freedom threw the city. The development of projects for different places in the world was for me a good accommodation on different levels of perception of the public space. From German environment to the Chinese generic megalopolis. I worked each time to understand what could the architect do to act in between the fences, to ease the pedestrian path, to give legitimacy to the human scale and to the

The aim of the competition was to design new offices which would lead to a new approach of tertiary work. The idea that offices should be reinvented is a very relevant question of our century and we decided to answer this challenge with a urban project as well.

Off the wall This project takes place in London in the frame of an AC-CA competition which aimed to design an architecture office in brick lane, a north district of the city. The situation of the site was blocked by the wall and the subway station. We decided to open the brick lain with a bridge going on the building as an invitation to cross the wall. Under the path stand a multilayer office with an experimentation area on double high in the centre of the structure. The structure is based on a multi-purpose pre-made elements which can be reused and reconditioned threw times.

MASTER THESIS A temperate Breezing Between Campus and City Architecture and urban Thesis (team of 2) In cooperation with Huazhong University architecture school

25

Master Thesis project China, Hubei, WUhan I decided to achieved my architecture studies by an extra-european project taking place in the Chinese Megalopolis of Wuhan (the 8th Chinese city). Coming back from Erasmus, this project was an opportunity for me to discover an other city scale and an other urban context. Taking a project on the Chinese city was a deep experience of the unknown. This experience contrasted with my work on the European cities and called for pragmatic strategies in a country with strong political presence. It was my final work as well as the most interrogative one. How far can the architect stands from politic to make his vision happened ? How much the lifestyle of the citizen influence this vision and how many voices does it take to make a change in urban models ?

component in a green-way as intelligent management of the hard-rain (de-pollution, canalisation, greening and distribution). We believe that the boulevard will also build up a welcoming entrance inside the university.

The Chinese city of Wuhan extends itself around the urban campus of Huazhong. This area stands as shelter in the chineese Megalopolis, offering a better climate than the remaining urban sprawl which is subject to urban heat island effect and pollutions. The main research axe of this final project estimates that the campus can have a beneficial effect on the city around it. The main point of the urban planing project is to re-evaluate the district as a whole and enhance the relationship between inside the university and the new district raising around it.

At the elbow articulation of the project stands the major gate of the campus, it is also really near from the architecture school which needed a revitalisation. At this point we decided to use the extension project of the HUST school of architecture to come along the “new gate project.

This idea is leading the project in two main direction. The first one (blue) is situated along the campus, it stands for the development of the underground and the re-qualification of a big boulevard in the city as a more friendly path. The second (red) one is elbow shaped and look threw the campus, linking a open public space to the more private area of the university, aiming to reach more natural areas situated on the other side of the Huazhong University. Along the path we build up we try to may down either social uses and environmental improvement. We focus basically on the materiality of the ground threw the hydrophilic

Architectural intervention: extension of the school of architecture The project of extension of the school of architecture is a bound project between urban preoccupations and architectural subjects. The main idea is to construct rooms, in one hand open to the public as a new gate, and, on the other hand a more private place of learning which is organised around two squares. The two wings of the build are linking workshops programs from the existing school to a materials library and amphitheatre. Threw this dual programmatic diagram we decided to integrate the central core of the building which is an experimental shed, build as a welcoming volume inside the campus. This experimentation shed is a scale one building area and stands for the major expression of a will of creation and construction in the university which is surrounded by technical centres. Those centres could commute in this one place to link the knowledge threw realisation of structure and renewing of the Chinese architectural phenomenon. To enhance this engagement threw a more Manual and self building approach the extension itself is build with carefully chosen materials.

The building itself is made of either reusable or bio-sourced materials which can be find easily in the Chinese environment. The main body of the project is made of a pre-made concrete structure which can be manage as a flexible frame. This frame is completed by build in window which are use to create comfort zone inside of the concrete core.

Cells

Structure

The building is completed by: -Facing south/ the tile wall which is great against solar light and for ventilation -Facing north/ rammed earth which is covering the shape of the building, providing a great inertia and a good humidity absorption

Protecting the rammed earth and many roofs, a bamboo structure assume a big volume sheltering. The bamboo is a very flexible and strong material which is abundant in China, covering spaces with such a structure offer a good alternative to metallic infrastructure which are today widely spread for this purpose.

MASTER 1 Chicago river project in cooperation with IIT Erasmus second semester at the HCU Hamburg

Along the Chicago river

Group wood model

The Chicago river project was a cooperation with the Illinois Institute of Technology and the HCU. The idea was to implement a urban plan for the Chicago river shores which are home of an industrial heritage. On this site we took the decision to create a urban farm which exploit the potential of huge spaces to elevate a central production of fresh food. It’s an answer to one of the main issue in Chicago which is to get fresh products. The plan is also to use the river as a mean of local transportation which could help all the southern part of the city to become a potential market of fresh food with less carbon emissions and fast delivery. The project is made of a bended structure which act as an infrastructure of cultivated fields and logistical shed. The construction of huge capable structure will allow a long term and diverse implementation of uses.. It will also provide a natural environment for the people of south side which are isolated from the privileges area of the loop and north side. The sheds will allow people to visit production site and to get familiar with food production in urban environment. In the old fabric inherited from the XIXth century will grow a urban lab for research on agriculture purpose as well as exhibition on the subject and workshop for public information.

Learning grasshopper threw this project was a good way of familiarasing with this tool which allow a good modularity and a fast working execution, even for simple shapes and action. Morevover I was very glad from the experience in a german office, exhanging architectural culture and viewpoints.
