ON REFLECTION
Create a glamorous display by hanging a metallic tray as a backdrop to a collection of decorations, hung in a gentle waterfall shape.
BALANCE BAUBLES
Use statement decorations, from bejewelled VW Beetles to monogrammed ornaments, sparingly on the tree. Start by hanging simple baubles: largest at the base and smaller at the top, and finish by dotting feature baubles evenly spaced across the tree, where they can be seen clearly.
PLAY WITH SHADES
Midnight blue, emerald green and all the shades in between create an ethereal feel that's perfect for a winter feast. Navy has been a firm favourite for a few years and, with the addition of moss green and black with hints of gold and chartreuse, it makes for a stunning colour palette.
CONSIDER FABRICS
Velvet, silks and damasks will elevate any interior, so think about using fabrics with different finishes at windows, on upholstery or as scatter cushions. Use it by the metre to drape over a dining room table, or take fabric offcuts to wrap presents, secured with a satin bow.
MIX FAUX AND REAL
Don’t be afraid to use faux garlands, wreaths and even trees as a base for adding fresh foliage. A faux garland is a brilliant starting point to trail up the banisters, where baubles and ornaments can be secured using wire. Fill in gaps with real foliage for a wonderful Christmas scent.
HANGING COOL
Show an unused corner of a room a little love by suspending a foraged branch and draping it with statement trinkets, hung on silk ribbons.
