Having built a loft extension in their home in Crewe, Sam and Kris Bache decided to extend their kitchen, too. ‘We spoke to our architect and decided to add on to our home as we’d always wanted a large kitchen,’ explains Sam. The space needed to be as family-friendly as possible for the couple and their daughters, Macie and Aayliah.
Their next step was to find a company that could achieve their goal. ‘We chose Wren as family members had said they’d had a good experience with them,’ recalls Kris. The couple designed their kitchen while building their extension so collaborating with their Wren designer helped them visualise their new space.
‘With the help of Wren we could talk through ideas and plan the room layout a lot better,’ says Kris. The couple’s home is part of the #wrenovation series, which shines a spotlight on real customer kitchen renovations.

DESIGN STAGE
Sam and Kris went to their local showroom in Warrington. After browsing the store, they spoke to designer, Dan, who arranged for someone to measure up their kitchen that same day. ‘We went back to the showroom after the measurements were taken that afternoon and designed it all with Dan in around four hours,’ explains Sam.
Minimising clutter was a big priority for the couple. ‘With two girls and a lot of mess, we wanted plenty of cupboard space. Dan
suggested a few ideas for what could work in the space,’ says Sam. ‘We wanted a large island, and Dan used Wren’s design software to work out the best placement for it in the room so we could visualise how it would look.’
COLOUR AND APPLIANCES
When it came to the colour scheme, Sam and Kris had an open brief. ‘I had a look around the showroom to see what stood out to me. I wanted a hard-wearing surface on the worktops as the girls like to paint and bake, which can get quite messy! Dan recommended the Aspen Ice Xena Quartz worktops, which we paired with Infinity Plus Autograph Stainless units in Pebble Gloss for a shiny modern look,’ says Sam.
The couple selected high-end appliances to complete their dream kitchen, which include an AEG fully integrated dishwasher; a Bosch induction five-zone hob; and warming drawers, a compact combi-microwave and multifunction, self-cleaning oven. With Dan’s expert advice, the couple were able to include these state-of-the-art appliances while maintaining the storage space they longed for.
BRINGING IT HOME
With their kitchen plans drawn up, the next step was arranging the installation date. ‘We spoke about the finance with Dan, and the zero per cent finance deal was a great help. While we had the money for the new kitchen, the option to pay on finance meant we could put our money towards the extension and bring forward the installation date,’ explains Kris. Dan contacted the couple throughout the process to inform them of delivery timings, which made the installation seamless.
Now the family spend most of their time in the kitchen. ‘The new space works so much better for us. The girls can play in here while I cook, and it’s great for entertaining,’ smiles Sam. ‘We’d definitely recommend Wren, which I’m doing without thinking when I’m sharing photos on Instagram or talking to friends who visit,’ shares Sam.
