Kiln design Prototype Description Target: Design and development of a locally designed fish smoking kiln using insulating refractory materials. Place: Akure, Nigeria Period: 3months Summary: This is an experimental smoking kiln project developed based on a novel design and built using insulating refractory materials; towards improving the existing fish smoking kiln techniques in Nigeria with performance evaluation for recommendation. The result showed a significant improvement over the existing fish smoking kiln solutions.

Glaze formulation interface

Target: Ceramics glaze formulation with existing software technology using locally available raw materials in japan. Place: Ceramic studio, University of Tsukuba Supervisor: Ass. Prof. Saito Toshiju Period: 1months Summary This is a glaze experimentation process using mostly available Japanese raw materials and accomplishing the glaze formulation with Matrix2000 glaze software. The availability of the materials' chemical analysis did enable a glaze formulation process with an analytical approach.

KOLLORO (Coins keep) Description

Conceptual exploration

Design gap: A better way to stock, organise and keep coin money in my house to ease access and eliminate money loss. The refined gap is to - design a fun-to-use coins holder (from personal to home keep) to create more value for coin money by reducing losses, keeping them organised and improving easy access. The key user needs were identified as follows: Devicing a convenient way of handling coin money Caring for children safety (protection from accidental swallow) Protecting the historical value of coin money Creating pleasurable experience in coin money keeping Redesigning the traditional concept of coin money bank

A Framework of User Experience in Product Design ORTÍZ NICOLÁS Juan Carlos Lecturer of User Experience, National University of Mexico, Mexico Over recent years the body of literature on user experience has constantly increased delivering new theories, models, and frameworks. However, this literature is disjoint and fails to provide a clear and concise overview of the most influential aspects of user experience. Unconnected theories represent a drawback for research because complementary or overlapping ideas from different authors are not linked (Crilly, Maier & Clarkson 2008). Two negative outcomes of this situation are that some concepts may be overlooked and relevant features may be absent from a general perspective. This text is a summary of the analysis, comparison, and synthesis of ten perspectives on user experience and product design that have been published in recent years. The reviewed literature and the complete analysis and synthesis is in (Ortíz Nicolás, 2014) 1. User Experience in Product Design Based on the analysis of ten reviewed frameworks, six properties of user experience and four constituent elements were identified. These are explained next. 1.1 Properties of user experience During data analysis six properties of user experience emerged, namely subjective, conscious, intentional, emotional, interconnected, and dynamic. Subjective Experience is influenced by feelings, tastes and thoughts resulting from our personal way of living an event. As a consequence, each person lives his or her own experience and determines what is significant about it. Conscious Experience is focused on conscious events, those that the user is aware of and related to what the person is living, feeling, and sensing, as a result of the humanproduct interaction. Intentional Experience is intentional because users have motivations and goals when interacting with products.

It is well known that pleasant experiences with products emerge when products are aligned with users' intentions. Emotional In specific user experience is regulated by emotions, positive and negative, which play a central role in holding the experience, as well as, in categorizing it as pleasant or unpleasant.

Description

Interconnected User experience emerges from the interplay of cognition, affection, sensory input, behavior, and all the other systems that humans rely on. Therefore, it has to be understood, researched, and explained making reference to the human as a whole. Dynamic Experience is dynamic, always evolving, scalable, cumulative, and provisional. More so, it develops over time and, as it does, it enriches permanently. To illustrate the dynamic nature of user experience we now explain in detail the difference between the concepts of: 1) experience, 2) experiencing, and 3) accumulative experience. Experience refers to the bulk of experiences that we gather in life. Experiencing refers to the specific moment in which the user-product interaction occurs. It is the period in which a user makes sense of the experience. Accumulative experience is the sum of experiencing episodes in which the users live the experience. It contributes to forming an overall evaluation of a product over time, e.g. from the purchase day until present. Experiencing and accumulative experiences continually evolve. Dewey in McCarthy & Wright (2004) calls this the principle of continuity of experience, which means that every experience takes up something from those which have gone before and modifies the quality of those which come after.
