MIAMI PERFORMING ARTS CENTER SCI-Arc, Fall 2012

The main idea for this project was to organize the three theaters in such a way

that they are individually separate components that at various instances touch, intersect, and create tensions in space. These diagrams display this concept. There was three main focuses in the development of this project, one of them was focused on the theaters and their interior circulation, secondly, the adjoining skin that connects the theaters into one; and thirdly, the allocation of the negative space on the interior. While the main intention is to lead the visitors in and down in up to each theater, the appearance to the outside remains cautious withour trying to be pretentious. The reaction to Gehry’s Walt Disney Concert Hall is obvious without attempt to overwhelm or compete by repeating, but rather by inverting the gesture. In order to accentuate moments the eye is guided through or towards certain objects. The perception of space changes with the visitor’s position and perspective. Therefore the experience from a single particle through space changes its position as well.

GRAPHIC NOVEL LIBRARY SCI-Arc, Spring 2011

This project is a Library for Graphic Novels in lower east side of Manhattan.

The idea of the library is to collect, preserve, educate, and display graphic novels. The collection is not limited to animation, anime, cartoons, comic books, comic strips, gag cartoons, illustration. The library demands the collections are maintained in a provacative and dynamic envirnment appropriate to the study, display, conservation, and celebration of various examples of the idiom. One goal of this building is to educate the public about Graphic Novels, how it is crafted, how it reflects history and how it progresses to the future. The concept of the library is having boxes rotated and align to the streets. The rotation moment then become the sprial to the ground level where the cafe and multi-purpose room are. The circulation of the library is also base on the rotation idea from the lower level of the roof level. There are two major path of each level. There will be a atrium from the basement and all the way to the roof level, this atrium bring enough skylight and fresh air from outside. A serious of flexible. modular library space to desired in order to accommodate the diversity of Graphic Novels in Scale and format of its collection.

MANUFACTURE SURFACE Pratt Institute, Fall 2008

The Hunter Douglas Light Research Studio is a material research based design

studio that addresses the window treatment products of the Hunter Douglas Company. The studio explores new trajectories of the manipulation of this material as a means of extending and modulating the basic performance of the product. The studio was based on the concept of the material with its beauty, transparency, publicity, privacy, and the ability of manipulated light to guide to the specific categories ambience by creating the program to this material.

While it is a group project with the combination of interior design and architecture

students, I was able to develop strategies of usage that expand beyond the standard application of this material as window treatment. Everyone had the opportunity to fully experience all parts of process. I was primarily involved in documenting all material studies. In the second half, I was specializing to the structure process and fi nal fabrication. The studio research culminated with around a full scale constructed installation.
