his issue is bitter sweet, because so much has changed in Second Life® over the years and then so many things will remain the same. I have to say that I never thought that I’d be on a platform such as this for long as I have been. I’ve gone through many revolutions of style and aesthetic, many friends that have come and gone, and many changes to my avatar with the invent of bento and mesh parts. But, one thing will always remain the same and that is my love for photography in Second Life® and the ability to use it for self-expression of my happiness, my pain, my sorrows, and my triumphs. Each day we log in is an adventure of a virtual world that helps us to better paint a reflection of who we truly consider ourselves to be. Inspired by life, living, and the iridescent glow spring, this issue was influenced by the vivid colors that make our world and our second world so breath takingly beautiful and resilient. It is with great pleasure that I bring our 5th anniversary issue of Ferosh to you! This beautiful piece of work features some of Second Life’s® most talented virtual artists and photographers
who show us the prismatic hues that some of us see every day. I, personally, was thrilled to pass on the challenge to our Creative Department Group to shoot in color, because I think it’s harder to do. I’m forever thankful to our core group of Ferosh Photographers who’ve stuck around through my ups and downs, my moves and busy seasons. I’m thankful to my executive board for their loyalty and consistency to our organization – their motivation, inspiration, and push to keep me going and excited. I will miss Grant Valeska and wish him the best of luck with his new chapter. I look forward to a new chapter for Ferosh as well. My mind is always creating. I’m always trying to think of something new. And I hope that you like what we come up with next! Until then, thank you for taking a glance at our 13th issue! My goal that Ferosh will be a constant in Second Life® and through all the many changes, we’ll still be providing the best there is to offer regarding photography and design.

A new spring has sprung and with it comes a colorful issue that celebrates not just fashion but life. As you peruse each page, I want you to take it all in and marvel in the great works of art that our brilliant photographers has worked tirelessly for. Being a photographer myself, I have nothing but respect for them since I know the hard work and at times, frustration, that comes along with each snapshot. They say “Time flies when you’re having fun” and that is true in this case. Who would’ve thought that it has been five years since Ferosh was born? I vividly recall taking part in the very first casting and how nervous I felt seeing the people I’ve looked up to standing right in front of me. It was an intimidating and yet exhilarating experience that I would forever be grateful for as it has allowed me to be in touch with my o individuality. Ferosh was the brainchild of some of Second Life’s most brilliant minds and though some have come and gone, its ethos still remains intact. Five years may

have passed but we still aim to capture the beauty of the virtual community that we all hold dear, showcase the talent of its residents and encourage everyone to reach for the sky and make use of the resources that this world has given us with its seemingly endless possibilities. No words can suffice to show how much I appreciate all the people who have been a part of the Ferosh journey from year one to now. Without all of them, Ferosh wouldn’t be how it is now. Thank you for being an inspiration and for showing us the exquisite beauty of Second Life through your lens! To Absinthe, Taylor and Grant, you are a dream team! It’s always a pleasure working with you every issue and I will never ever get tired of organizing our collection of notecards, spreadsheets and forms. I hope that you all enjoy this issue and as usual, stay FEROSH.

ach time a style issue rolls around, I am immediately excited and anticip ating what our amazing group of photographers are going to present us with! These issues are my personal favorite because I see so many talented people going outside of their boundaries, experimenting with new things, and constantly reinvigorating the Second Life fashion scene. Some of the world’s most talented cre ative are truly living and expressing their art in this tiny virtual world. This issue has some amazing new talents joining us along with some of our veteran photographers who outdo themselves e ach issue. Each editorial is unlike the rest, everyone has a cle ar and concise point of view. One of my favorite sections this issue is the Oce anic theme, it’s overflowing (pun intended) with photos that make me fall

Though it’s one of my favorite sections, it doesn’t take away from the rest of the talented imagery this issue has to offer – from living out your nightlife fantasies to the campy, smile-inducing storytelling editorials – we’ve covered it all! I want to give a huge shout out to three people who make this issue happen and work the hardest to make

Creative Assistant's Message
appiness, Joy, Celebration – all terms that be attributed to a milestone. Be it a plethora of occasions, enjoying the fruits of your labor should be noticed and should be acknowledged. To think back five years ago…I was in the homestretch of my senior year at University and was still doing my own thing. I was at a stagnate pot in my Second Life, having just plateaued in a since with friends, family and goals I had in this virtual space. It wasn’t until I saw this amazing magazine published that pushed the limits of fashion and art in Second Life, that something ignited my passion. I knew that this was something special starting up, and I mean who could blame me; just look at who was heading this new project.
It wouldn’t be for a bit until I had my chance to be apart of this now published and beloved fashion magazine. I still remember that challenges and whatnot to try out for this magazine. If my memory is correct, and that’s shaky :P, but I believe that challenge was to create a folklore look. For this unfamiliar with folklore, it was style heavily inspired by the outfits and garments worn by fairytail characters. Just with a heightened sense of fashion and drama, if you will. For my entry, I think I wore a sweat with fur pelts on it with black leather baggy pants and got this feather headpiece made for me. At that time, I thought I WAS THE ONE LOL. Thankfully, I was accepted into the next round; where we needed to choose one of two styles – I choose the John Paul Gaultier inspiration – and did a photo story using the latest fashions from his brand. Again, I had 22
something customized for me by the love LODE, it was this hood wrap, that I just wanted a dark red I think. The theme for that most recent JPG show was this red and black color story. So, I did my best once again, and hoped to open the pages of Ferosh and find my four photos in the mix. I remember my heart was pounding a bit was I turned each page, waiting to see if I saw my photos. Low and behold I spotted my photos and the rest was history as they say. I have thankfully been able to be a part of each issue to come after this initial one. Having the opportunity to be among some of my favorite artists and photographers. See how this project grow into this massive entity that is now celebrating its 5th year anniversary! What you see every Spring/Summer and Autumn/Winter could not have been possible if it wasn’t for the amazing talents of each person who work on each issue. If it wasn’t for the photographers, there would be no content. If it wasn’t for Grant and Sung, there wouldn’t be content for the magazine to be produce. If there wasn’t Absi, then there wouldn’t be a magazine that is layout out to near perfect each time. Each of us plays a role in the creation of each issue of this great magazine. To each person, past and present, who has ever been associated with Ferosh in any capacity, thank you for the bottom of my heart for helping make this magazine what is it today. Happy 5th Anniversary Ferosh <3
