Artistic Director Ashley Page’s spectacular version of Cinderella, one of Scottish Ballet’s most popular productions, returns to the stage this winter.
transported to a decadent Vivienne Westwood-meets-Andy Warhol 18th Century France, swept up in Prokofiev’s romantic score, performed live by the Scottish Ballet Orchestra.
Tormented by her stepmother and stepsisters, Cinderella is lost and lonely, until a simple act of kindness summons her Fairy Godmother who sends her on a magical journey to find happiness.
Scottish Ballet’s exceptional dancers bring these unforgettable characters to life with genuine emotion and plenty of wit, making Cinderella a fantastic feast of classical and modern dance as original as it is visually striking.
Showcasing sumptuous designs from awardwinning designer Antony McDonald, this vivid reworking of the much-loved fairytale is

A tragic tale of innocence lost Verdi’s towering opera tells a tragic tale. Rigoletto, a jester employed by a rich and dissolute Duke, is forced to keep his master well supplied with fresh conquests. As a web of court intrigue tightens around him, Rigoletto finds himself the victim of a grave curse, but it is his carefully protected daughter Gilda who is the one to suffer.
Verdi takes the characters from elation to despair in an opera densely packed with extraordinary music.
From the aching naivety of Gilda’s first love to the Duke’s unthinking revelry and Rigoletto’s tortured realisation of his failure as a father,
Director Matthew Richardson brings this operatic classic to the stage in a stylish, intelligent and theatrical production. English baritone Eddie Wade sings Rigoletto in his debut in the role, and Nadine Livingston (Musetta in 2010’s La bohème) brings a fresh innocence to the role of Gilda. Tobias Ringborg conducts.

JOHN CLEESE’S ALIMONY TOUR For the first time ever, comedy legend and the most senile member of Monty Python will be bringing his Alimony Tour to the UK. Best known for his idiosyncratic turns in Monty Python’s Flying Circus and Fawlty Towers, John Cleese brings his unique comedic perspective to audiences across the UK. From writing to starring in plays, musicals, theatrical and comedy productions, to films and sitcoms, Cleese has done it all, and now it’s time for him to tell you about his jam-packed life. Cleese says “it is an evening of well honed anecdotes, psychoanalytical tit-bits, details of recent surgical procedures, and unprovoked attacks on former colleagues, especially Michael Palin.”

STEPHANIE BEACHAM in
Master Class By TERRENCE McNALLY Directed by JONATHAN CHURCH
★★★★ The Times
Stephanie Beacham embarks on the most challenging role of her career this autumn as the celebrated diva Maria Callas. Beautiful and talented but tormented and insecure, Maria Callas took the world by storm; the general public were mesmerised as much by her talent as by her glamorous and thrilling private life. Her passionate love affair with the shipping tycoon Aristotle Onassis gripped press and public alike and took on an added drama when he left her heart-broken for Jackie Kennedy returning the week after their wedding asking for Maria’s forgiveness. She refused but never really recovered and supposedly died of a broken heart at the age of 53.
Tue 8 - Sat 12 February
In what promises to be a rich and lavish production, Stephanie plays Maria at a time when her voice and her personal life have fallen apart and she reminisces on the triumphs and tragedies of her life and career. Rich with comedy and searing poignancy the play “exposes the passions behind the voice that gave the world goosebumps.” EXPRESS

Gilbert and Sullivan’s wonderful light opera, The Mikado, is quite possibly the greatest comic opera ever written. Packed with delightful songs and sprinkled with scintillating lyrics, the piece has triumphed on stages across the world for the last 125 years. The Town of Titipu is the setting for intrigue and romance as Nanki-Poo, the son of the Mikado, attempts to escape from the formidable Katisha and into the arms of the beautiful Yum-Yum. Ko-Ko, the Lord High Executioner has other ideas however – his own decapitation not being one of them! With beautiful sets and costumes, a large company and full orchestra led by David Lyle, this production of The Mikado directed by Alan Borthwick is bound to sell well. Book early to avoid disappointment.

A HEADLONG CHICHESTER FESTIVAL THEATRE “This is a chance to get THEATRE, a glimpse IN ASSOCIATION WITH THE TOURING PARTNERSHIP AND ROYAL COURT THEATRE PRODUCTION of a genuinely impressive ensemble PRESENT of actors who can make Shakespeare seem new-minted” THE GUARDIAN
Propeller, the internationally acclaimed allmale company, led by Director Edward Hall, is renowned for combining a rigorous approach to the text with an exciting, physical aesthetic to engage its audience’s imagination and bring fresh understanding to classic plays. This is Shakespeare rediscovered. Richard III brings the War of the Roses cycle of history plays to a close in bloody fashion. Arguably Shakespeare’s most villainous King, we watch in horror and delight as Richard murders his way to the throne, unable to resist his cruel wit and dark humour. This is a hugely entertaining and diabolical adventure that tells the story of one man’s journey to heaven, then back to hell. In complete contrast, The Comedy of Errors is Shakespeare’s most farcical comedy, and also his smartest. Two sets of estranged twins, separated at birth, find themselves in the same city 25 years later with hilarious consequences. A series of mistaken identities, assumed personas, and wild mishaps bring a family crisis – so complicated that time itself loses the plot – into heart warming focus. Fortunately the audience is always one step ahead… Please note Richard III contains scenes of strong and bloody violence

BSL – SIGN LANGUAGE INTERPRETED For patrons who are deaf, deafened or hard of hearing we provide BSL Interpreted performances. A BSL Interpreter will stand on the stage to one side and interpret all spoken or sung speech during the performance. Please mention that you wish to use this service when you book your show tickets and we will allocate you appropriate seats to clearly see the interpreter.
CAPTIONING For patrons who are deaf, deafened or hard of hearing we provide a Captioning Service. Captioning is a bit like subtitles on TV. The captions are shown on two raised display units (one either side of the stage) in large print and delivered at the same time as the words spoken or sung by the actors. This is also a wonderful service for anyone who has difficulty in following strong accents, or whose first language is not English.
