Set just after the Second World War, in the backyard of Joe and Kate Keller, this gripping and passionate drama ranks as one of the classics of our time. The Kellers try to keep alive the memory of their son Larry, who disappeared in the war, by the planting of a tree in his honour. But Larry’s disappearance is not the only part of the family’s past that they can’t put behind them. Following a stormy night, when Larry’s tree is blown down, Joe and Kate’s lives are threatened by a series of events that could destroy the very foundations of their lives. With all the tension of a taut thriller, All My Sons is a powerful drama that crackles with emotion and excitement!

In a forest, the Wilis meet to greet their recently arrived sister: Giselle, who rises from her grave to join their ranks. Hilarion, arriving to mourn at Giselle’s graveside, is forced to dance by the Wilis (who return from the dead to seek revenge on men) until he drops dead. Albrecht arrives to mourn, and is destined to meet the same fate from the merciless Wilis. Giselle shields him from their fury… Former Royal New Zealand Ballet Artistic Director Ethan Stiefel was joined by Johan Kobborg, creator of notable productions for both The Royal Ballet and the Bolshoi Ballet, to create this landmark new production of Giselle. The quintessential romantic ballet, Giselle is a perfect fusion of every element that makes ballet so special: touching, human characters, a romantic story, beautiful choreography – from pure classical ballet to folk dances – and a wonderful setting.

The Importance of Being Earnest is known to elegantly lampoon the hypocrisies of a Victorian society and opens as two bachelors, the dependable John Worthing, J.P. and upper class playboy Algernon Moncrieff, feel compelled to create different identities in order to pursue two eligible ladies Cecily Cardew and Gwendolen Fairfax. The hilarious misadventures which result from their subterfuge; their brushes with the redoubtable Lady Bracknell and the uptight Miss Prism result in a plot that twists and fizzles with some of the finest dialogue to be found in theatre.

In the sultry heat of Seville, passions are high and drama is around every corner – and a hot-blooded tale of seduction and obsession is about to unfold.
A new co-production with D’Oyly Carte Opera Company. The team behind 2013’s smash hit The Pirates of Penzance returns with another Gilbert & Sullivan comedy classic. A stellar cast, in the hands of director Martin Lloyd-Evans, brings the fun to life with a delicious mix of cheeky English Music Hall and exquisite Japanese tradition.
When Don José, a young soldier, meets the sensual and high-spirited Carmen, thoughts of marrying his childhood sweetheart are driven from his mind. But Don José is not the only one to fall for Carmen’s charms, and when she chooses another man, she sets in motion a shocking and unmissable showdown. From the Habanera to the rousing Toreador’s Song, Bizet’s brilliant music pulls you right into the action of this passionate love story. With a star-studded cast including 2015 International Opera Award winner Justina Gringyte, one of the world’s most talked-about tenors Noah Stewart, and Roland Wood, direct from the drama of 2015’s Il trovatore, this is an unforgettable evening not to be missed.

Following a sold-out run at the Almeida Theatre and a critically acclaimed West End season, Mike Bartlett’s multi award-winning new play King Charles III comes to Edinburgh.
Huge sound, epic spectacle: Britain’s national dance company brings brass band-powered dance to the Festival Theatre as part of a captivating triple bill.
The Queen is dead: after a lifetime of waiting, the prince ascends the throne. A future of power. But how to rule?
Joined live on stage by Scottish Champion ensemble Whitburn Band, Rambert presents Dark Arteries, a powerful, emotion filled work inspired by the 30th anniversary of the end of the miners’ strike. It is a dance which draws you into its emotional heart while the music lifts the hairs on the back of your neck, then raises the roof.

Cinderella
Sat 5 to Thu 31 December Festival Theatre
Discover the enchanted, sparkling world of Christopher Hampson’s Cinderella, in the European premiere of this most beloved fairy tale. In her grief, the young Cinderella plants a rose at her mother’s graveside. When her father remarries, the future seems bleaker than ever. Her wicked stepmother is intent on pushing aside kind and beautiful Cinderella in favour of her two nasty step sisters. The course of true love never did run smooth but Cinderella does meet her prince and romance blossoms. Acclaimed New Zealand designer Tracy Grant Lord’s luxurious costumes and extravagant sets create a glittering fantasy world peopled with characters that are touching, funny and real. Dazzling against the light and dark of Prokofiev’s powerful score, this ravishing interpretation of the timeless rags-to-riches romance is everything you could wish for and more.
Quotes from Scottish Ballet’s 2014 production of The Nutcracker
The Scottish Ballet Orchestra accompanies live performing the world famous Prokofiev score.

Each play stands alone as a unique vision of a country tussling with its past and future; viewed together they create a complex and compelling narrative on Scottish culture and nationhood. An ensemble of 20 actors takes the audience through a rarely-explored period of history with playful wit and boisterous theatricality.
The residents of Chipping Cleghorn are astonished to read an advert in the local newspaper that a murder will take place at the home of Letitia Blacklock. Unable to resist, the group gather at the house at the appointed time, when the lights go out and a gun is fired.

Guys like us, that work on ranches, are the loneliest guys in the world. They got no family. They don’t belong no place… with us it ain’t like that. We got a future. We got somebody to talk to that gives a damn about us. Set in America during the Great Depression, this classic play tells the story of George and Lennie, two migrant farm workers, who go in search of new beginnings, in the hope of attaining their shared dream: of putting together enough money to buy a small piece of land and building a home.

Evenings 7.30pm Matinees Wed and Sat 2.30pm King’s Theatre Breakfast at Tiffany’s, the classic tale of Holly Golightly written by Truman Capote and so memorably portrayed by Audrey Hepburn in the iconic 1961 film, is being given a new lease of life as a stage play with music in a sparkling, sophisticated, new production. Adapted by Pulitzer Prize finalist and Tony and Olivier Award-winning playwright Richard Greenberg and directed by Nikolai Foster, this tale of vivacious, good-time girl Holly Golightly and her fantastical existence in 1940s New York City, is told through the eyes of a young writer, completely fascinated by this exquisite extrovert who every woman wants to be, and every man wants to be with.

In the past when you put Sarah Millican outside, she asked things like: “Why? Where is the taxi? Do I need a cardie?” and said things like: “There’ll be wasps. I’ve nothing to sit on. Is that poo? Can we go home?”
Outsider SARAH MILLICAN
But things have changed. Now she has outside slippers. She can tell a chaffinch from a tit (hey). But she still can’t tell if it’s an owl or her husband’s asthma. Sarah Millican is venturing outside. Bring a cardie.
“To watch Sarah Millican is to watch a box of comedy fireworks going off”
With memorable songs from the era, this stylish production is set to capture the hearts of audiences and sparkle like a diamond in a Tiffany’s window.
