Last month, I took a trip to Amazon’s logistics hub in Tilbury. As the UK’s largest Amazon logistics hub, Tilbury employs 4,000 people. It wouldn’t be very accurate to define these hubs, called Amazon Fulfilment Centres, as warehouses. The whole process, from the bulk entry of products to the delivery to customers, is managed in these hubs. You would need to invest hundreds of thousands of pounds if you wanted

32 Turkish British Magazine I January - February 2020 to undertake these in your own warehouse and team for your own company. However, when you sell through Amazon FBA this cost goes down to zero. Once you see this type of logistics centre with your own eyes, you again realize what great an opportunity it is to start selling via Amazon FBA.

Coming back to the subject of this article, I would like to continue to give tips on starting your sales on Amazon in 2020, expanding your seller account and planning accordingly. Now that we are entering a new year, it’s a good idea to talk about how you should plan for 2020.

Until now, when shopping, the seasons that you had cared about as buyers only become much more important when you are a seller. For example, at the time I wrote this article, I took advantage of Black Friday discounts to buy and meet many of my needs. One hour spent on Amazon in front of my computer was sufficient for my purposes. I didn’t have to make any preparations. On the other hand, as an Amazon FBA seller, I managed a very different process. I had already completed the planning, purchasing and shipping of products to Amazon’s warehouse much earlier, so that my products would be ready for sale on Amazon.

When you become an Amazon Seller yourself, the dates and periods you should consider in 2020 are briefly as follows:

January - February - March

Due to the busy Black Friday and Christmas shopping in November and December, you may feel a decline in the sales in January. The period of January, February and March will be the right time to consume the remaining products in stock with discounts and to finance the purchasing processes of new products. January 25 Chinese New Year, February 14 Valentine’s Day, 22 March Mother’s Day are among the special days to consider in the first quarter of the year.

April - May - June

The month of April is a period to be given special consideration because of Easter. Due to the long holiday period, the number of people going abroad for vacation purposes can affect your sales. You can think of May as the opening of the wedding season. If your products are about newlyweds, May and beyond will be a busy period. Festivals begin in June. Father’s Day will be celebrated on June 21st, the month of the Wimbledon tennis tournament. Euro 2020 European Football championship will begin in June. Group D matches, semi-finals and finals will be played in London.

Applications for the Prime Day taking place in July, will begin in April and continue until midMay. Therefore, the months of April and May are important for Amazon FBA sellers both to prepare their products and to apply for Prime Day discounts.

July - August - September

July is an important month for Amazon FBA Sellers. You can increase your sales volumes considerably in one day, by making discounts on the Prime Day, which is celebrated every year. In order to sell your products at Prime Day deals, you must set your prices at least 20% below the lowest retail price in the last 30 days. Your product must have at least 3 stars and product images must comply with Amazon standards. You should apply for Prime Day in April and May.

Late July and August are a period when schools are on holiday. This means you may feel a decline in sales in August. If your products are summer products, this period will be a period of increased sales. September is a period of increased sales to students before the schools are opened, aptly named “Back to school.” If your products are of interest to students, this will be an active period for you.

October - November - December

These months may be the most active periods of the year. The last week of November is a time when you can turn Black Friday and Cyber Monday into opportunities. Although discounts in product prices will reduce your profit margins, the increase in sales volumes will give you the opportunity to enjoy a week where your total profit will increase.

After Black Friday which lasts a week, Christmas purchases begin, right after the Cyber Monday discounts end. You will be able to finish the year with a busy Christmas sale until December 25th.

I have set out a document so you can make your plans for 2020. You can access my previous posts and this document from www.muratbuyurgan.com, follow my Amazon FBA sales experience on my social media accounts, and contact me if you have any questions.

There will be a meeting room/private enclosed space with a booking system and storage space for products.
