Lisa Zderadicka has produced her two highest scoring games of the season over the past two contests - 15 points vs Jacksonville and 14 vs North Florida
GAME 27 FORT MYERS, FLA. - The FGCU women’s basketball team (22-4, 8-1 ASUN) will look to complete a regular season sweep of USC Upstate (9-15, 4-5 ASUN) on the road at the G.B. Hodge Center on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
Gradinjan (Cudahy, Wis./Cudahy HS), who ranks seventh in the nation in 3-point field goals in a career, now has 1,136 career points over 138 games, which allowed her to move past Stephanie Haas (1,135, 2012-16) for seventh place on the program’s career scoring list in the team’s home win over North Florida. Next up on the list is Shannon Murphy (1,185, 2007-11).
THE GREEN AND BLUE FGCU (22-4, 8-1 ASUN) has won two straight and will look to complete a regular season sweep of USC Upstate on Saturday. On top of that, the Eagles have won 13 straight in series history, including a 93-60 victory on Jan. 15 in Alico Arena. In that game, China Dow produced 22 points, 10 rebounds, three assists and three steals to lead five players in double figures. The others included Erica Nelson (14), Nasrin Ulel (Murrietta, Calif./Murrietta HS) (14), Rosemarie Julien (Port St. Lucie, Fla./Treasure Coast HS) (11) and Lisa Zderadicka (10). Zderadicka added six rebounds and four assists, and Nelson had three steals, while Taylor Gradinjan chipped in nine points. Tytionia Adderly had six points, seven rebounds and four assists.
Adderly (Jupiter, Fla./Cardinal Newman HS) moved up another list against UNF, as her five offensive rebounds pushed her career total to 190 and moved her past Kaneisha Atwater (186, 2013-16) for sixth most all-time. She’s close to moving up a pair of spots as the next two on the list are Katie Meador (193, 2012-16) and Kate Schrader (194, 2005-07). FGCU recently dropped out of the USA Today Coaches Poll and into the receiving votes section, where the Eagles tallied nine votes and have a chance to move back into the top-25 before the end of the regular season. Additionally, the team fell to No. 3 in the latest CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major poll behind Green Bay and Belmont, respectively. The Eagles did receive one of the 30 first-place votes, though, and are still the top-ranked team in the espnW poll.
Dow (Louisville, Ky./Christian Academy of Louisville) has been on a tear over the past eight games. She has scored at least 10 points in seven of those, with two games of at least 20, and she’s raised her scoring average from 9.6 per game to 11.2. In fact, over that stretch, she is averaging 14.9 points while shooting 44-for-91 (.484) from the field. She is 9-for-18 from 3-point range over the past four games and leads the team in scoring in ASUN play at 13.8 per game.
SCOUTING USC UPSTATE USC Upstate (9-15, 4-5 ASUN) will enter Saturday having won two straight over Kennesaw State and Lipscomb.
Zderadicka (Vienna, Austria/HAK Korneuburg) has been a force offensively over the past two games. The redshirt junior guard has shot 12-for-24 from the field and 3-for-4 from the foul line. She totaled 29 points and five assists while producing her two highest scoring single game scoring outputs of the season. The Houston Baptist transfer, who is in her first year with the Eagles, now has nine games with at least 10 points this year, including five in ASUN play. On top of that, she checks in at 11th among all ASUN players in assists per game (2.7). Nelson (Kansas City, Mo/Lee Summit North HS) remains a presence at point guard. While averaging over nine points per game, she produced the game-clinching steal in the Feb. 3 win over Jacksonville and tallied a season-high tying seven assists in the win over North Florida on Tuesday. It was her third game with at least seven dimes this season, and she’s now third on the team in scoring in ASUN play at 10.3 per contest.
In the win over Lipscomb on Wednesday, A’Lexxus Davis tallied a career-high 16 rebounds, while Tamera Thorpe led the team with 19 points. The Spartans scored the first 10 points of the game, while Anda Kuzmina (16) and Brittney Delva (13) also reached double digit scoring. DeNisha Swain led the team in assists with six. Overall, Thorpe is the team’s lone double figure scorer at 12.5 per game, while Kuzmina averages 9.6. Davis leads the team at 5.9 rebounds per contest, while Delva (89) leads in assists. The Spartans, despite a losing record overall, have won seven of 13 at home this year. SERIES HISTORY FGCU is 18-2 all-time against USC Upstate, including a 7-2 record on the road. The Eagles defeated the Spartans 93-60 on Jan. 15.

AUSTRIAN WEAPON In addition to returning 1,737 points from last year’s team, FGCU head coach Karl Smesko has added Vienna, Austria native Lisa Zderadicka to the roster. The 5-6 guard led Houston Baptist with 11 points per game last year (276 total points). Thus, with her addition, the Eagles have over 2,000 NCAA Division I points from last year available. In addition to her scoring, Zderadicka averaged 4.5 rebounds last year, which was second on the team at Houston Baptist and would have tied China Dow for second on the FGCU roster last year behind Tytionia Adderly.
NEXT UP IN THE NEST In addition to Zderadicka, FGCU added four transfers who will sit out this year due to NCAA Division I transfer rules - three of which either led their school in scoring or finished in the top three last year. Davion Wingate tied for the team-high in scoring at 11.8 PPG for Stony Brook; Keri Jewett-Giles tallied 9.0 PPG for Southern Miss; and Kerstie Phills poured in a teamhigh 13.1 PPG for Wagner en route to NEC Rookie of the Year recognition. Kerstie is the daughter of the late Bobby Phills, who played for the Cleveland Cavaliers and Charlotte Hornets. The fourth transfer is Tyra Cox, who joined the team mid-year from William & Mary.

UPPERCLASSMEN PRESENCE
BUSINESS TRIP
Among eligible players, this year’s roster features six upperclassmen, including five seniors and one junior. Taylor Gradinjan is the elder statesman on the team with this being her sixth year following two ACL tears to start her career. Jessica Cattani and China Dow are both fifth-year seniors, while Erica Nelson and Rose Julien are in their second season at FGCU following two years at Johnson County CC and Chipola College, respectively, and each player won an NJCAA national title. Lisa Zderadicka, who is a graduate transfer from Houston Baptist, is a fourth-year junior.
Earlier this year, FGCU completed an eight-game, 19day road trip that saw the team produce a 6-2 record. Included in the trip was victories over No. 21 DePaul, FIU, Akron, Kent State, Siena and two-time defending Southland Conference champion Abilene Christian. The lone two losses came to No. 8 Ohio State and Belmont, both of which made the NCAA Tournament last year. The team also finished 4th in the Play4Kay Showcase in Las Vegas Nov. 23-25.
OVERTIME HISTORY FGCU is now 7-6 all-time in the NCAA Division-I era in overtime games following the 89-84 win over No. 21 DePaul on Nov. 23. Three of those games have come against Stetson, and the Eagles hold a 2-1 record in those. FGCU Women’s Basketball Road Trippin’ - Nov. 14-25

BIG TIME FGCU head coach Karl Smesko, who earned his 400th career victory on Feb. 21, 2015 with a win over USC Upstate, is now 14 wins away from 500. He won his 400th in just 493 games. In fact, by winning 81.1 percent of his games, he is one of just four active coaches at the NCAA Division I level with at least an .800 career winning percentage - joining UConn’s Geno Auriemma, Baylor’s Kim Mulkey and Stanford’s Tara VanDerveer.
