o much has been spoken about Augmented Reality. However, Virtual Reality is something that is totally different from ‘reality distortion’. If you take a look around, you will observe that as we progress, lots of things are becoming AR enabled. Consequently, VR will also change the whole game of creating and consuming content. While there’s been a hell lot of stir about the AR & VR out there, the time is rather ripe for you to visualize the actual world with some highly superimposed graphics on it. No wonder, the AR technology is a complete charm in itself. How it works is, as you move, the size, angles, and distance, the image also shifts accordingly; and all this takes place in real time as if the image really does exist! And why am I distributing this free AR “gyaan” to you here all of a sudden? Well, that is because we have taken the game up several notches higher with the launch of the Exhibit AR app. Because 2D is just too mainstream and Exhibit is all about what comes Next>> For the first time ever, in our part of the world, you can experience on the cover of a magazine an incomparable involvement and one-of-a-kind Augmented Reality experience.

You will get familiarized with the most enthralling, life-like celebrity experience when you enter this magical world of AR. By simply holding your phone and pointing to the cover what you will see how our cover star – ShAhid KApooR – astonishingly comes to life. Believe it or not, he will actually invite you to take a picture with him. And even if you are not such a die-hard Bollywood fan, then just do it for tech’s sake. Sure AR has stolen the limelight, and we are still kicking ourselves for not doing it earlier. But this time, the November issue has two themes, the second one being ‘The dark Side of the Web’. Seriously, I can’t put in words how deep the Internet is, and how much you are missing out on the web. All I can suggest is just start flipping the pages and uncover the deep, dark, scary yet thrilling web that you have never seen before. And yes, before doing anything, download the Exhibit app on your Android or iOS devices. We will be sending across the complete content from thetechy, thewheelz, exhibitmag, plus the exclusive videos, all curated in just one place! And every once in a while, we will throw in some epic AR shit too. Enjoy the reality, which is augmented, and stay in a reality distortion-free zone. Happy flipping and clicking…

W e doubt whether anyone has stayed aloof from the World Wide Web. And even if you are a keen surfer of the internet, the web that you see, exploit, and depend so heavily on, is not the only Internet that is looming on our computers.

Many researchers believe that the Internet that we actually use is nowhere close to the dark web. There exists an Internet that is beyond the internet, which is often referred to as the “dark web.” The researchers also state that the freely visible web is only the tip of the iceberg, and there is so much more for you to learn about how the online world works. The dark web is the part of the web that majority of the people have never seen. Virtually, the place is hidden, except if you know how to dig in. Bottom line, the dark web is that portion of the web that cannot be marked. Also, dark

web is factually one of the only places that even Google can’t take you to.

What is the dark Web?

So what comprises this dark side of the web? Researchers and professors of this particular subject state that the deep web is made up of enormous quantities of information, which has been consistently pasted on the internet. And this information, for technical reasons, has not properly been charted or upgraded by the popular search engines. There exist some studies hinting that the dark web holds somewhere around 90% of the whole online data matter. Now, how to access this dark web? Over the time, the dark web has comparatively become easier to access. Researchers believe that the deep web was invented by the United States Naval Research Laboratory. When it was conceived in 2002, the US Navy manufactured a kind of software named Tor. The main intention for creating Tor was to guard the government

contacts. However, the program was soon amassed by computer techies around the globe. Consequently, today Tor has become the poster child for the “deep web.” The Tor Project was first launched in Walpole, Massachusetts in the year 2002. The main purpose was to let people surf the internet in the incognito mode in order to promote the freedom of speech. The Onion Router, which is another name for Tor, is popularly known for hosting crooked websites Instead of using some conventional web addresses, Tor uses a sort of “onion” address used to further bury the content. There exist special search engines such as Bing and Duck Duck Go that will revisit the onion addresses for only Tor services. On the surface, Tor looks like a familyfriendly method of accessing an ad free web space, which functions as an alternative to the mainstream search engines. Still, there are a lot of people who feel that the dark web is

a rather dangerous place, which is full of gruesome criminal activities. The dark web is, of course, free of cost. You can easily download music and movies illegally here. It offers free and undisturbed distribution of child pornography. Furthermore, you can access websites offering you stolen credit cards. It is a hub of terrorist activities that perform their communications through these dark web forums. All these are only some of the illegal activities that take place in the dark side of the web. Official agencies have achieved certain amount of success in shutting down these sites. They have also started arresting the culprits, especially from the drug market, from every corner of the web. In several other cases related to Tor, a group known as ‘Anonymous’ is claimed to have used Tor in order to organize massive attacks on all kinds of organizations around the world. The group has also used the dark web to order direct actions apart from organizing itself.

the internet KNOWS YOUR

SecretS

GooGLE TELLS A DIFFERENT STORY OF WHO YOU ARE!

a

re you the one whose secret companion is Google to search for any and everything on the surface of this earth? Do you feel no threat in telling Google about your biases and fetishes? Ok, chuck that! Have you ever wondered why corporate people invest so much time and money to gather and analyze data? After all, it’s just digits, complex mathematics and data. Let me tell you something! This data might look boring and may be difficult to understand, but is actually a plethora of information for government officials, businessperson, media and more.

research foundation. The data is not only extracted from Google but also from the Pornhub which is one of the prominent pornographic websites in the world. The results fetched are shocking and undoubtedly sad. The author has even given justification on why he opted for Google Search and Pornhub. According to Seth, “In the pre-digital age, people hid their embarrassing thoughts from other people. In the digital age, they still hide from other people, but not from the internet and in particular sites such as Google and Pornhub, which protect their anonymity. These sites function as a sort of digital truth serum …”

But wait, what is this Data? Or, the right question to ask is who is Data?

Furthermore, he analyzed that the data fetched from the given websites for concluding that social issues like racism, hate, and discrimination are definitely prevalent in the society. People know how to lie, and this is because they escape admitting their dark truths by portraying to the society they’re nice and sane. But, these people tend to confide their secrets to Google as they think no one is watching and judging them. You won’t believe how vulnerable a person can be until and unless you know what they search on Google. They surf the internet searching for things like sexless marriages, honest political views, mental health and all in the name of anonymity.

The Answer is You! No kidding! Data is people like you and me, who flood the internet each day with loads of personal information including their deep and dark desires and fetishes. A former Google data scientist, Seth Stephens-Davidowitz also wrote & published a book on this topic. The name of that book is – “Everybody Lies: What the Internet Can Tell Us About Who We Really Are.” In this book, he has talked about things which make us take an in-depth look into our true selves. You will get a reality check and also confront something which you never accepted about yourself. Who will say ‘yes’ if you ask them if they are sexist or racist? I guess no one! However, the internet tells another story. Seth Stephens-Davidowitz mainly relied on the Google facts and searches as the

Something which people are not comfortable sharing with their closest friends is the weird sexual fantasies and fetishes they have. Seth gathered all this from Pornhub which helped him evaluate people’s weird fantasies. According to him, the most common searches on

the porn website are bizarre things like stuffed to humping, incest, bondage, and homosexuality. He has especially mentioned the dark truth about India stating, “Did you know that in India the number one search beginning ‘what my husband wants…’ is ‘my husband wants me to breastfeed him’?, This comment is far more common in India than any other countries. Moreover, porn searches for a depiction of women breastfeeding men are four times higher in India and Bangladesh than in any other country in the world.” Fetching Big Data is actually a clever understanding of what all is available online. In my opinion, it can certainly help the governments, businesses and individuals alike.

ugmented reality has certainly come a long way now, from where it was first conceived; however, it still has some major disputes that it should trounce from. Let’s take an instance here—GPS will only offer proper accuracy to you if you are within 30 feet (9 meters). Moreover, augmented reality doesn't work so well when you are indoors. however, better image recognition technology may be able to help the AR functionality here.

augmented

THE

reality It’s Limitations You Should know

LImItAtIonS

In the future, people mostly wouldn’t want to entirely reckon on their small cellar devices. As we can clearly see, the cell phones have smaller screens, and these tiny screens are loaded with all sorts of information. And only for this very reason, wearable devices, including SixthSense or augmented-reality capable contact lenses and glasses, will definitely offer users some more convenience, along with unrestrained inspections of the world around them. The screen real estate may no longer be a major issue, as in the coming future, there are chances that you will be able to play a realtime strategy game on your computer. Otherwise, you can also invite a friend over, simply wear your AR glasses, and you two will be able to play on the tabletop right in front of you! How cool is that? Also, there is no such thing as too much of information, especially in this high-tech era. Just how the "CrackBerry" phenomenon and Internet addiction have turned out to be major concerns for people, an over-dependence on augmented reality can also mean that people are failing to check out what is available right in front of them. For example, some people may wish to make use of their AR iPhone applications rather than an intimate tour guide, even when tour guides are capable of offering a certain level of personal contact, along with practice and that personal touch, which otherwise is just not available in a computer functionality. We have often come across those times when a real nameplate on a building is far more appeasing than a virtual one. The virtual ones are only accessible by a certain lot of people with certain required techniques. Along with augmented reality come the privacy concerns. The latest AR technology revolves around the image-recognition software, which will be soon coupled with the AR technology.

And soon enough, the facility will allow us to tip our devices at people, including unfamiliar persons; and instantly, you will be able to see their personal information from their Twitter, Amazon, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, or any other online profile. Even currently with the existence of these social media platforms, most of these people are willingly displaying their private online profiles for the world to know and track. However, the situation will be totally different where you have unknowingly met someone, and right in that time, you would instantly have so much information about the person and his/her background life right in front of you that the whole essence of imagination will be lost. In spite of having all these issues, you can’t stop speculating the possibilities that the future of augmented reality holds for us. You will be able to understand things about the city that you have lived in through years by simply directing your AR-enabled phone at any nearby shop or a building. If you happen to work in the construction area, you will be able to save on so many materials just by making use of the virtual markers. Then, you will easily be able to assign where a particular beam should be fitted or which structural support should you inspect. This technology can greatly help the paleontologists who work in shifts in order to assemble a dinosaur skeleton. Paleontologists could leave the virtual "notes" to their respective team members on the bones by themselves! Then, the artists will be able to construct virtual graffiti as well. On the other hand, doctors could easily veneer a digital image of a patient's X-rays onto a mannequin for an extra touch of reality. Indeed, the future of augmented reality is bright and stunning, especially more since it has already found its path all the way into our cell phones and video game programs.

It might get tough for such people to not carry a pair of headphones whenever they are out of the house. Obviously then, people need to buy a pair of headphones. But, the most important thing here is to buy the right kind. What you must do is invest in noise-cancelling, non-bulky kind of headphones, which will let you lose in music peacefully.

In India at that time, if I wanted to watch a match, I would have had to sleep overnight at the stadium, only to be probably told the tickets were sold out- and brokers would later be selling the tickets at twice the original

: Hello Mr. Hemrajani, can you trace the journey of how you came up with the idea of starting BookMyshow and the process that you followed? ashish hemrajani: The idea of booking tickets online came to us on a back packing trip in South Africa as we sat under a big tree and listened to a radio commercial about rugby tickets being sold online. We immediately thought of similar problems that existed in India pertaining to cinemas- standing in long queues, waiting in line to get to the pigeon hole after hours only to realize that the seats of your choice are unavailable, and pure lack of information. We saw an opportunity here and decided to pursue it. When we started, the startup culture was not as prevalent and the first challenge was to have an investor believe in our idea and plan. We pitched to our first investor by sending our idea across through a fax. When we look back we realize that an idea with potential, a sound business model, and a realistic plan was all that was needed to get our journey started.

aSHiSH heMRajani a

shish hemrajani, CEo and Founder of the online ticketing platform BookMyShow, gives out entrepreneurship mantras and spells out his thoughts on the startup scene in india in an exclusive interview with Utsavi Jha.

one must always remember that entrepreneurship is a state of mind - it’s not about starting a new business. You can be an entrepreneur while at a regular job - by taking a calculated risk and trying something new.

price. I felt that there was a structural gap which needed to be filled.

(employees) innovating, the users are happy- that’s all that matters to me.

: What hurdles did you have to overcome on your way to setting up BookMyShow in India? The dotcom bust of 2002 got the team down from 150 people to six. We moved our set up from a 2,500 sq. ft. office to a house in Bandra in Mumbai and shut our other offices in other cities except Delhi. But we decided to go back to the basics and were determined to stay with the business. Rather than riding on the existing ecosystem, we started building it and continued to learn.

: Currently, India is witnessing a great boom with regards to the Startup scene. What are your views on the Startup culture here? The startup culture today is quite conducive and investors themselves are looking for ideas to back, which wasn’t the scenario until sometime ago. This has however led to a lot of people thinking that money is going to solve all the problems. As an entrepreneur, your job is to do what is right for the end-user. Money and valuation is a by-product of that endeavour. One must always remember that entrepreneurship is a state of mind - it's not about starting a new business. You can be an entrepreneur while at a regular job - by taking a calculated risk and trying something new. Most importantly, failure is essential to the making of an entrepreneur.

By 2006, things started to look up again. Everything was changing- Internet, credit cards, debit cards and infrastructure was better. Our costs had come down. The environment had completely changed and we had also contributed to it in our own little ways. We said it’s time to go back to the market with an offering and that’s when we launched BookMyShow in 2007. : Looking at the number of online booking websites, how do you tackle competition? How do you try to set BookMyShow apart from the competitors? At BookMyShow, we have always focused on the quality of our input and what we can do for our users. We have always kept our users at the centre of our universe and all our decisions are taken keeping them in mind. As a business, we make a very conscious effort to remain nimble and quick on our feet to adapt to the changing user preferences and business environment and in turn constantly improve our offering. Anything external does not bother me because I can’t control the environment. I can’t control competition. I can only be aware of it. As long as we have happy people

: Your business strives on the Internet and social connectivity. On a personal level, how big a consumer are you of technology and the internet? Which are your go to sites and apps? BookMyShow is a tech company. We have built a product that has solved a structural issue that existed in our country. Technology is a great enabler. Apart from BookMyShow, I am very active on WhatsApp but I would say I am not a slave to emails. I am not very active on other social media platforms. I always believe that if you are a friend, hit me up for a drink. Don’t poke me or thumbs up me; it’s a case of vanity. : What are your Business Mantras? More companies die of indigestion than starvation. It’s a very valuable lesson for any entrepreneur.

: Which is your most favorite read? Nuts and Delivering Happiness. : What do you like to spend time doing when you are not working? I love sailing. I race sailboats on Saturdays. I have been doing so for 15 years. We’ve got a great sailing community out there. I also try to make it to the gym 3-4 times a week. And I always keep time aside to spend with my family. We take 3-4 vacations a year. In fact, you learn so much when you’re on a vacation. You observe and absorb so much from the world around you, which you can actually plough back into your daily jobs. : Seeing in hindsight, what would you have done differently? If you’re asking if there have been any mistakes, then no. They are all learnings when you are truly an entrepreneur. The day you admit that they were mistakes is when you stop being an entrepreneur. We launched our business very early, before its time and one learning from it was that the market wasn’t ready for our business (when we launched in 1999). The ecosystem for credit cards, debit cards, net banking etc. didn’t exist. There was no cellphones, data connectivity. As a result, our cost curve kept following our revenue curve which we couldn’t unshackle at that time. So now whenever we are launching new businesseswhether it is live events or our audio entertainment service -Jukebox, we always try to time it right. It’s all about timing.

the morning, a shampoo while having a bath, a face wash in the middle of the day and so on. The same way, when a customer wants anything to do with entertainment, he should come to BookMyShow for all his entertainment needs.

quickies Your role model/Business Guru: Steve Jobs and Ratan Tata. BookMyShow in 5 years: Loved by every Indian. Advice you’d give to budding entrepreneurs: Persevere. Believe in your self and don’t give up. Top business mantra: More companies die out of indigestion than starvation. First tech gadget you owned: Atari video game . Next big thing you will bet on: Renewable energy.

: What is next on the cards for BookMyShow? We aim to be a 360-degree entertainment destination where our customers come to us for all their entertainment needs. Let me explain with a simple example- If I am an FMCG brand that makes daily use products, I want my customer to come to me for a toothbrush and a toothpaste in

DJ OF THE MONTH

: Tell us about your journey? teri miko: It has been a great 8 years of my life. Growing from an upcoming DJ to an established producer obviously required a lot of work, and that’s what I do daily; I still practice a lot, watch a lot of tutorial videos, try to attend a lot of master classes and of course experiment a lot in my production. So, I believe, the key to success and popularity is hard work.

music as long as you’re getting a revenue from it. And portals like Spotify, Soundcloud, Apple Music are heavily used by musicians all over the world. : Describe your dream gig and favourite gig. My dream gig would be main stage of Ultra Music Festival in Miami. I think when this will happen, I will do something absolutely crazy like skydiving. And one of my favourite gigs would be VH1 Supersonic 2017 because it was definitely one of the best sets of my DJ career.

: How would you like to describe your style of music? It’s pretty simple - bass oriented style of music consisting of Trap, Hip-hop, Dubstep and Bass House. : What do you think about the EDM scene in India and where do you see it heading in the next 5 years? I think the EDM scene in India is evolving a lot and the proof is that lots of major EDM festivals are finding their home in India, and all of them are superbly attended. In the next 5 years I definitely see the domination of bass Music and that’s when we Bass DJs and producers will be taking over. : Teri Miko and Tech - what is the relationship like? I am a gadget freak when it comes to my daily life and work. I invest a lot in the equipment I use and believe it is a very important aspect in developing as a musician. Better equipment equals better quality and I am always up to date with tech world. : What tech do you own in your own studio? I have two separate setups for DJing and production. For DJing, I have a pair of CDJ Nexus 2000 and a DJM 700. For production, I have the latest iMac with all the relevant softwares, VSTS and Plugins that I use for making music, pair of KRK Rokit 5 monitors, sound card and a midi keyboard. Right now, I am considering upgrading my studio and buying the analog synth. : How do you think is digital streaming impacting the way music is reached or heard by listeners? I think right now, the digital streaming is the main way of promoting and distributing your

: What are the best and worst things about being a DJ? There are so many good things about being a DJ that we can write a whole new article on it. Traveling, meeting new people, ability to express yourself through music, and of course the enormous amount of love I get from my fans. I will not use the word worst, rather compromising, among them are lack of sleep, the fact that I don’t celebrate major holidays with family and actually pretty less time at home. But I never complain; that’s the life I have chosen. : One piece of learning you have received over the years that you’d like to share with others. Giving up is never an option.

Fashion Designer OF THE MONTH

: Seeing in hindsight, what would you have done differently in your career? neeta lulla: I have never played by the rulebook, I have always questioned convention and taken the path less travelled. Being more of a tomboy in my early teens I was always inclined towards outdoor activities. My mother was always worried about my grades and whether I could ever be the perfect daughter who could cook and stitch. I got married at 16 predominantly thinking it was an escape from high school and a formal degree, without realising that with two MD DPM psychiatrists that too gold medalists and BSC graduates and MA English in the husband’s family legacy, my genius idea was far from being what I thought would be a cakewalk. My in-laws decided I should study further and pursue a career in cooking or tailoring. With my brief advent to magazines, I opted to what I thought was a hobby course in tailoring which in fact was a Diploma in Pattern Making and Garment Manufacture at SNDT University’s Premlila Vithaldas Polytechnic Juhu. Academics again here was not my strength but styling and coordination interested me as I had a brilliant guru in Hemant Trivedi who saw my talent and groomed me in the art of makeup, fashion choreography & styling shows. I was intrigued by the history behind world costumes but I could only grasp through listening. Textbook knowledge never fascinated me. Jeanne was then our guest lecturer and noticed my interest in fashion choreography and I found myself working with her as her assistant for almost 2&1/2 years assisting her on her shows. In the meanwhile, my college asked me to double up as a lecturer in fashion coordination. I did take it up but it initially scared the daylights out of me for

over a year till I got used to it and my teaching pattern was more interactive than academical. Not to sound conceited but I am the only fashion designer to have won 4 national awards. I have not restricted my brand to only fashion designing; I have done ad films, television serials, costume designing and wedding. : How would you like to describe your own style of design? I believe fashion is a more bespoke industry. You need to cultivate a personal bond with your client to ensure the outfit reflects the wearer’s persona. The whole idea is to make the outfit bring out the showstopper in the wearer. The House Of Neeta Lulla has always focused on the mantra “be your own bride” which means that we don’t restrict a bride’s personality and give her the creative freedom to choose what best suits her personality. I always create designs that make my customer stand out rather than the outfit screaming out loud “Neeta Lulla”. I generally take personalized sessions with all my clients and don’t leave it to my team of stylists. I understand the event requirement and a little about the history of the bride and then mix the two to create the outfit. : Do you remember your first garment? Who was it for? My first film costume was for a dance sequence for Kimi Katkar in the film Tamacha which was a complete disaster as my technique and cut for a film costume was absolutely wrong. It was a great learning experience. So I worked towards making it right by sitting up all night at a little tailoring shop and learning the right cut and technique from a tailor who specialised in film clothes and took a perfectly fitted outfit for shoot the next day.

CLUSIVE : Then and now: how has the Fashion scene in India changed and where do you see it heading in the next 5 years? We are in the midst of a major fashion explosion and there is an increased sense of awareness now, of global fashion trends. Fashion is no longer restricted to Tier 1 cities but is a growing need in Tier 2 and 3 cities as well. Today men are as cosmopolitan as women. A lot of focus is being given to promoting indigenous fashion and artisans from rural areas which is a fantastic move by the Government Of India. There are new emerging designers who are fabulous in what they have to offer. However, fashion weeks and tours need to revamp drastically as there is a sense of monotony that has set in. : Neeta Lulla and Tech- what is this relationship like on a personal level? Technology is like a playground, a place of experiment, and as you dive deeper and deeper into the technology and systems, it rewards you with endless possibilities. House Of Neeta Lulla was one of the first brands to foray into the online retail space when others were just testing waters. I introduced the concept of fibre optics in India and a lot of my brides have used this for their D-Day. : What do you think about the blend between fashion and technology? In the past, you would only have access to a fashion show if you were rich, part of the industry, or a media spokesperson. Nowadays, however, they are streamed live to each location. It’s possible to buy the catwalk designs at the touch of your smartphone button. There has been a surge in the number of fashion bloggers in recent years who are considered the authority on go-to-places for fashion. Wearable technology is now a reality. From smart watches to temperaturebased color-changing clothing, both technology and fashion are seeing 30 I

a revolution. The objective here is to push fashion beyond the conventional aesthetic role it performs. By embedding technology into clothing and accessories, businesses are now able to cater to the changing needs of the customers in real-time. Fashion businesses need to start their transition into technology companies now. The sooner they start, the sooner they’ll cultivate the domain expertise required to remain competitive in the future. Firstly, digitise historical designs and build a rich database of products split into their individual variants. Secondly, ditch standard-size grading and adopt parametric pattern grading. With parametric grading, any product design can be made to fit any body type. Lastly, supplement your mass-produced inventory with on-demand production.

10-6 job. Some people are successful, some aren’t but that doesn’t justify the ego! It’s just that I opted to pursue this because I was creatively and not academically driven. I believe in letting my work do the talking, just like I believe in letting my costumes being the showstoppers than a celebrity. I have started from rock bottom and therefore I don’t like to misuse the success I have achieved. I’d want to leave behind a legacy of commitment to my craft.

: One must-have gadget that’s not your phone or laptop. iPhone Bluetooth earplugs.

: Advice for budding fashion designers? Academics paves a strong foundation for your work in future. It is important to pursue your strength of design with a commitment, dedication and focus. Understanding of your core strength in the field will take you where you want to be. Don’t be enamoured by the glossy life of the fashion world and get prepared to put in a lot of hard work if you want to leave a mark.

: One mandatory piece of tech you use for designing. LED lights and 3D Printers. : What are your thoughts on social media and how its used for promotions? In a crowded online fashion market, it can be difficult to distinguish your brand from the pack and this is where social media comes in. A good social media strategy doesn’t just display products or push services. It targets a clear customer and tells a story that appeals to that person. Today with everyone being glued to the digital world, it is very important to have a strong online presence.

: Who is your favorite person to dress in your collection? I wouldn’t like to be biased but yes I miss the days of Milind Soman, Madhu Sapre, Sheetal Malhar. From Bollywood, it’s Sonam and Kangana who continually push the boundary and their aesthetic is so nonconventional and I like that. : What’s your life mantra? Always stay humble because you never know when success, money and fame can vanish. People generally have this misconception of how the success of any individual from the entertainment and lifestyle world is directly proportionate to their red carpet appearances and social media updates. I somehow never understood this concept because I’ve always thought as being a fashion designer is just like another white collared

: One thing you’d tell your younger self now that you have so much experience? Live life to the fullest and always pursue your passion and follow your gut. Never do anything in a halfhearted manner because success comes to those who give their 200%.

ashion and portrait photographer Errikos Andreou is our photographer of the month. Utsavi Jha caught him in an interesting conversation where he revealed his love for technology and what draws him to photography.

: Which has been the most interesting shoot you have done so far? Two shoots for one the most popular French Calendars called Dieux du Stade which is featuring naked Rugby athletes. We had all those athletes who are doing a very brutal and rough sport being entirely naked on a set with about 20 people and 3-4 cameras “flying” around them. It was very challenging to make them feel comfortable and make them concentrate on the shoot.

: do you follow any particular process for any photo-shoot? I like to catch people off guard and see if they have something to say. I believe very much on the magic of the moment that gets killed by too much preparation. You are in a great location with great models, there are so many wonderful moments that can happen spontaneously. “Let’s shoot in this corner, the light is great and I love how the dress gets drugged in the mud” kind of way! I also like to get people naked whenever I can! 32 I

: how is technology shaping the field of photography? When you photograph people, you see more details on a face of a person you have photographed than the human eye sees even if that person is standing right next to you. So post production is absolutely necessary to reduce a bit of this information. When I retouch, it is not because I want to “perfect” the person I have photographed but because I want the viewer to get the same impression I have when I am looking at that person myself. On the contrary, I wonder sometimes what will happen to amateur/selfie photography. I wouldn’t be surprised if a camera would be invented that takes photos already fully “retouched” to prior specifications. : Must-have photography equipment for you? A great subject/model. : What inspires you? Beauty and personality, joy, youth, graceful age, confidence, great fashion, good films, music, art, solitude. : Your go-to photography trick you know works every time. Shooting people naked. : Advice for budding photographers? Do it out of love for the medium and not for whatever money or lifestyle you think it will bring you (you’ll be disappointed). Don’t be afraid to make mistakes. You shouldn’t care of what others think. You are not on a race with anyone but yourself. Love the process. Look for inspiration. Love what you’re shooting. Work hard. Research. Be aware of what is happening around you. Respect the work and effort of your colleagues even if you might not like what they do; they too are on the same road as you are.

: What draws you to photography? What draws me is the fact that I can alter reality. That I can create a new and different one for me first and foremost to escape within. That I can offer someone another vision of themselves. I am a very big fan of cinema and in particular the “new wave” French cinema which is simple and raw, shot plainfully without large sets and artificial lights. I am also a big fan of reportage photography, even though I could never do it myself. Don McCullin and Sebastiao Salgado are two photographers I admire immensely. I like that cinematic feeling in my photos, simplicity, plenty of natural light when I can have that, high contrast, motion, blurriness. I love what people often consider “mistakes” in photography. And on that, I love expressive people with big generous personalities. Beauty itself is often not enough.

: Can you share your journey with us? errikos anDreou: I originally studied fashion design in London at the University of Westminster and at the College of Central St Martin’s. I worked as a designer for a ready to wear company, as a stylist, a make up artist and a model scout for some time. I think I was naturally drawn to photography because it combined everything. I grew up collecting magazines, fashion and photography books and studying them, each time looking for a different element. Sometimes the clothes, others the make up or the models and others the photography. I was always on a quest for beauty.

: Errikos and Tech - explain the relationship. LOVE relationship. I believe technology is the most wonderful thing that has ever happened to the human kind. Still to most people technology means a cell phone with a camera, emails and selfies. However technological advancements are already fundamentally changing our specie and technology itself is taking more and more control over aspects of human reality. To some that might sound like a nightmare, to me it sounds like a revelation. Everything about the future of technology and its applications fascinates me.

In a candid conversation with harsha prerna, he spoke about his love for music, social media addiction, musical journey of his latest song Kaavan Kaavan from Lucknow Central and a lot of tech trivia, obviously!

: What is your style of Music? I love folk and Sufi, and I love listening to all types of music but folk is where I connect. : Your thoughts on Social Media, Music promotion, and digital Streaming. It is doing good for a lot. People have found mediums to be an overnight star. It's the future of any source of entertainment which is believed by many. I think, way back artists were not relying on anything to be known, they could actually concentrate on their work and then rest would follow. Now-a-days, we are more concerned about our Facebook status, our Tweets or whatever and some are just doing that instead of getting their jobs done up to the mark..

I still believe if your work is good it will reach places and you won't have to rely on anything. Also, yes I’m on social media, it's fun sometimes to connect to people who appreciate your work and I love talking to them. : describe divya Kumar’s relationship with technology? I like to learn about things on my own. I'm a lil slow on them but finally I can be a lil friendly too. Slow-n-steady works for me with any technology or gadget for that matter. : Who is your inspiration in the Music field? It’s very difficult to pick one. I belong to a musical family so inspiration started from home. My grandfather Pt. Shivram who introduced music in our family, my dad Bhagwan Shivram who's worked in the industry for over 35years now, musicians I have known from my childhood till now, legendary artists in the 90's where I found my connection to music listening to Jatin Lalit songs, Nusrat sahab, Sukhwinder Singh and many more. Basically, every day we get inspired by so many different types of music and musicians! : The best and the worst thing about being in this profession? how would you like to describe the life of a playback singer? The best thing according to me is I get to learn about my work every single day and then also get paid for it. We travel, we meet new people, we make new friends, we connect people through our music, and music is a never ending journey so it will Stay forever. The worst part is there are still so many places left to go but my music will take me there I believe.

: You’re famous for your energetic and bold voice. Recently, you proved your singing prowess in Kaavaan Kaavaan from Lucknow Central. Tell us your journey of working on this song? We never actually worked on this song. It's one of the most favourite songs of mine. Personally, I'm not a supporter of recreating stuff so I was a little worried about crooning this one as Guruji had already sung it. But, the track was very nicely done by Arjunna Harjaie. He did not go far from the original vibe. There are just some lyrical changes by Kumar Paaji and the folk element of the song was really what I was looking forward to. We kept it simple and tried to stick to the vibe of the original classic. Kaavaan Kaavaan is a song which I would have loved to sing and I’m so glad that people took it positively.

: Recently, a lot of actors have been trying their luck in singing. What are your thoughts on that? It's always gonna be hard luck. Haha. It’s been rightly said, “Jiska kaam usiko saajhe”. ou become addicted when that one thing you are addicted to starts to overpower your life. That thing interferes with your everyday activities. The new gen problem is that addiction is not just limited to liquor and cigarettes anymore. With the advancement of technology, addiction has found its way in the cell phones too. If you are one of those persons who checks the phone the first thing in the morning, you may be a mobile addict. If you can’t keep your eyes of the phone even when you are driving, if you keep on checking your phone instead of working on priority, or you can’t stop your Facebook browsing even during a romantic dinner, then it is clear that your phone is intruding in your life, and you are addicted to it.

Late at nights, you can’t help but keep on fidgeting with your phone, be it social media, gaming apps, or text messaging. If you do that, keep in mind that you are losing valuable sleep over your addiction. If you stop caring for your basic requirements and senselessly use your time and energy into your device, then you are permitting your cell phone to prioritize over your health and well-being. If you find yourself in such a scenario, then power off your device an hour before going to bed. Make sure your final hour of the day is spent in a consequential manner. Your phone just isn’t worth losing your sleep over, so go to bed on time and start the next day fresh.

Make it a law. Never use cell phones while in cars. It is not possible for your mind to be at two places at the same time. You cannot drive and pay attention to your phone at once. Driving is one of those activities where you need to always keep your eyes on the road. Whenever you are driving, always make sure that you do not keep your phone within your sight so that you are not even tempted to take a look at it. Keep in mind that your life and other people’s lives are at stake here.

Instead, get out of bed, freshen up, exercise a bit and serve yourself a healthy breakfast.

Reality is nothing but just drifting away from being all that virtual. Getting real includes sharing a meaningful conversation with an actual person or going physically out for a meal or a cup of coffee with people. It is important to have someone right in front of you to engage with. Is it that nowadays your virtual friends and virtual text conversations have gained more importance than the physical once sitting in front of you? Hands down, paying attention to your mobile when someone is sitting in front of you is disrespectful. Your friend might be courteous enough to allow you to excuse you to check your phone… But really, such a behavior is not permissible. By doing so, what you are implying is that the one virtual message is more important than your friend. If someone has taken time out of his/her busy life to meet you, and share some quality time with you, then by turning your attention away, you are unavoidably saying, “you are not that important.”

Factually speaking, if you have your cell phone nearby at work, it is alright. In fact, sometimes having your mobile close at hand also becomes a necessity. Now, the point here is whether that ping of your phone is work-related. Even if it is work-related, that particular phone alert is rarely related to the issue at hand. If it is very easy for you to get distracted by your phone going off, then you won’t be able to focus on the work in front of you. This will in turn decrease your productivity. Therefore, it is advisable to create a no-phone time-zone. How this works is that at least 2 hours of your day, you need to shut off your phone, and stay completely focused to the work that is in front of you. Mobile addiction has turned out to be a big time a sickness now, for us all. Come on people! It is high time we get real!

What happens to each online account? Facebook: In Facebook, you have the right to create a legacy contact which will allow them to write a post for remaining at the top of your profile. They can update your display picture; respond to friend requests, and more. However, if you don’t want anyone to intrude your privacy by managing your account after you pass away; I’ll give you one more option. The second option here is that you can set the account to delete all the data as soon as Facebook is informed about your demise. Or, your page can be memorialized which means frozen in time. google: Google is pretty sorted because up to 10 people can execute your account once you pass away or the account seamlessly becomes inactive. twitter: Twitter allows you to add a verified immediate family member who can delete your account but only if they can prove that you’re dead. liNkediN, sNapchat & tumblr: LinkedIn is a professional account while Snapchat & Tumblr is a personal account. The dead account of millions of Facebook users is a reminder for all the social media users. It’s high time; you should start considering how they want their online presence to be managed after their demise. Not only this, the ownership of the content purchased online on Apple or Amazon is also something to be understood. With something like iTunes, do you even realize that they rent music and videos and you don’t actually own them. This is because it can’t be passed on.

In case a family member needs to have a user’s account closed, they will have to request and provide documents for proving the right to do so. And, it is not that easy thing to do on a social media platform like Facebook. You can definitely memorialize the dead person’s account but can’t get any access to it. Memorializing a Facebook account or page basically means freezing it with the exact permissions as it had when the deceased user accessed it for the last time. However, the account might show if you search with the right keywords.

hat is it? Facelifted M Sport variant of the BMW X1. Comes with AWD(xDrive) tech along with a 2.0litre transversely mounted diesel engine. how Does it look? If you have spent some time with the earlier X1 or have seen it in detail, the first thing you’ll realise is that this one looks more masculine, SUV-ish which is a good thing especially in our market (we loooooove SUV’s). In my opinion, the front end of the new X1 is the best and the most picturesque angle. The M Sport spec bumper looks jaw-y and brawny and the family kidney grille makes sure that you do not mistake it for anything else other than a BMW. Yes, the car has grown taller as well by 53mm in terms of the spec sheet and it’s not just all clever designing. Overall, it's a good departure from the old hatchback-on-stilts saga. Once inside, the first thing that I caught my attention was the M badging on the steering wheel which is pretty nice and chunky to hold as well. Even the key fob, door panels get the M badging and there are 18-inch M Spec alloy wheels as well. Rest of the cabin looks very modern BMW-ish and you get a nice 8.8-inch display for the i-Drive infotainment system which can show a number of things like real-time power and torque usage figures as well as your fuel efficiency and driving patterns.

The front seats and wide and comfortable and are comfortable for long distances. Space at the back has improved as well and is best suited for 2 adults. The panoramic sunroof does improve the feeling of space too.

how Does it Drive? Under the hood of the second generation X1 is a 2.0-litre diesel pot which is good enough to produce 190bhp of power along with 400NM of torque. It feels quite relaxed and linear in terms of power delivery and there is a wave of torque that you are rolling on most of the time. It has been mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox which does shifts through the cogs pretty smoothly, however, there were some jerky takeoffs especially in bumper to bumper peak hour traffic. Overall, as mentioned above, the term ‘linear’ describes this engine best. You get three drive modesComfort, Eco Pro & Sport. As you can make out from there names, Eco Pro cuts down on power and is a boon if you are looking to extract the most of out of that litre of fuel. The gearbox shifts up eagerly as well, further helping the cause. Comfort mode is basically normal mode and everything (steering, suspension, gearbox) feels nice and comfy. Put it in Sport and the steering weighs up a notch, adding a bit of confidence once you wanna dart into corners. The suspension setup is on the softer side which means you can easily glide over potholes. Push in hard into corners and there is a slight bit of a body roll which is a reminder of the fact that the car is best suited for long distance cruising, especially with that great FE figure( around 15-17kmpl on highways). shoulD i buy one? If you are looking to upgrade from your C Segment sedan, the second gen X1 fills most of the boxes right. A comfortable ride setup, efficient diesel engine along with decent boot space and ground clearance makes the X1 a good touring car and a great overall package!

ow would it feel like to drive at 435 kmph! Yes, you read that number right and there are production cars out there on sale which can do such crazy numbers! We have compiled a list of top 7 fast cars which will surely make you feel the need for speed!

01

by Konark Tyagi

1. Hennessey Venom GT (435kmpH) Hennessey recorded a 435kmph top speed at the Kennedy Space Center in 2014. There was a slight issue with this record as this was recorded while the car was going in just one direction and the wind could have helped achieve this number. Also because of its hand-made nature, there are other critics who do not count it as an actual production car. Owing to such complications, even Guinness book of world records has not accounted the Hennessey Venom GT as the fastest roadgoing car!

420kmpH

2.BuGaTTi CHiron (420kmpH) Bugatti Veyron had raised the top speed standards for any supercar and people were calling it the Concorde of cars back when it was launched. Now after 10 years, Volkswagen Group has divulged the Veyron’s successor, the Bugatti Chiron.

02 3.BuGaTTi Veyron super sporT (427 kmpH) At the point when Volkswagen obtained Bugatti, it had one objective- form the quickest generation car on the planet. The first Veyron accomplished that objective, and with a sticker price of $1.7 million and a quadturbocharged W16 motor creating 1,000 hp, it likewise bragged the most superlatives of any generation car.

Named for an acclaimed centaur in Greek folklore, the Chiron is expected to enhance the Veyron inside and out. Hitting 420 kmph utilizing road legitimate settings, the 1500 hp Chiron resembles a brute in chains. On the circuit, Bugatti plans to break those chains and also the present speed record held by the Hennessey

Venom GT. Until further notice, its best speed remains a riddle to the general population. In spite of the fact that the Chiron is fabricated like a racecar, one needn’t be an expert to work it; the car is built to consequently modify its hardware as the speed increments or declines, guaranteeing ideal execution. The dashboard includes highdetermination advanced presentations that will alter as the car’s speed changes, demonstrating just significant data at higher paces. The Chiron seems to be a ruler among supercars, which is fitting, as rulers will be among the few to acquire one; just 500 will be made in the first batch, and they cost an amazing $2.6 million.

427kmpH

03

But, the Veyron was soon struck off by the SSC Ultimate Aero and made Bugatti return with the Veyron Super Sport. With a top speed of 427kmph recorded at Volkswagen’s Ehra-Lessein test track, the Veyron Super Sport is as yet perceived as the world’s quickest production car by Guinness. The related Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse is additionally the world’s fastest open-top car, with a top speed of 427 kmph.

04

411kmpH

4. ssC ulTimaTe aero (411 kmpH) The Brand SSC might not have been as famous as Buggati or Ferrari and Shelby SuperCars (SSC) has nothing to do with Carroll Shelby of Cobra acclaim, yet for a while, the Ultimate Aero was the quickest production car on the planet. It hit 411 kmph in 2007, beating the non-Super Sport variant of the Veyron. Helping it accomplish that speed is a 6.3-liter twinturbocharged V8 with 1,287 hp. There were no electronic driver gizmos to help control that power either, further making it a purist’s delight.

399kmpH

Among performance purists, the Saleen S7 is a legend. There are a few explanations behind this — the outlandish styling, crazy execution, and mind-blowing tuning potential to give some examples — however, a great part of the vehicle’s allure is really authentic. Delivered from 2000 to 2009, the S7 was America’s first mid-engined supercar. It wasn’t quite recently the first in the U.S. however; it’s outstanding amongst other supercars made. Based on a lightweight frame created from aluminium and steel, the vehicle included a lumbering 7.0-liter V8 that delivered 550 hp, enabling it to quicken from 0 to 100kmph in just 3.3 seconds. About part of the way through its lifecycle, Saleen appeared the S7 Twin Turbo, which brought the car’s execution to close diverting levels.

05 6.koeniGseGG CCr (389 kmpH) Swedish supercar manufacturer Koenigsegg quickly held the “world’s speediest” title before being bested by the first Bugatti Veyron. Its CCR achieved 389 kmph at Italy’s Nardo Ring in 2005.

Presently delivering 750 hp, the vehicle could hit 100 kmph in only 2.8 seconds previously crushing the quarter-mile in 10.5 seconds. In any case, its most staggering measurement is its best speed of 399 kmph, making it one of the quickest cars at any point put to asphalt.

389kmpH

06

The CCR was basically a before age of the cars Koenigsegg is constructing today. It highlighted a 4.7-liter V8 of the organization’s own outline, a carbon-fibre body, and very little in the method for electronic guides. In spite of its great details, the CCR’s minute in the spotlight was as brief as its claim on the world. It was soon supplanted by the CCX, and afterwards by the current Agera. Koenigsegg says the Agera-based One:1 will top out at more than 434 kmph, yet nobody has attempted it till date.

7.mClaren F1 (387 kmpH)

387kmpH

07

The F1 is something more than just a very very fast hypercar. With its carbon-fibre body, gold-lined motor cove, 6.1-liter BMW M V12, and focus driver’s seat, it could conceivably be the coolest car ever made. A long time before it endeavoured to go up against Ferrari and Porsche with the MP4-12C, McLaren was referred to just as a fruitful race group in Formula 1. However, its first streetcar wasn’t precisely a beginner exertion. McLaren proposed to make the F1 a definitive street going supercar, yet its plan was backed by the organization’s dashing knowledge. The F1 even went ahead to a genuinely hustling career in its own particular right, winning the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1995.

e were invited by Mahindra and Mahindra to Kochi to witness the third edition of Mahindra Thar Fest and the Club Challenge and here is our report of the 2-day event. I’ll be honest as I start writing this article that I am not much of an off-roader and my priorities lie more towards the race track. This was one particular reason that I wanted to witness this event first hand so that if I could figure it out once and for all whether high ground clearance makes sense for me or not! The event was divided into two partsClub Challenge and Thar Fest. Club challenge is all about getting the best off-roading clubs across India to compete against each other on set parameters in a total of 4 rounds. As with any offroading event, the points were being awarded for picking up the most number of flags, vehicle/ track preservation and technique. Each team had to use three variations of the Thar- Stock, Leaf Spring Setup and a fully blown up Pro Mod Setup.

dAY 1 started off at around 7 PM in the evening. The night stage area was properly lit up which attracted a lot of localities who were amused by looking at heavily done up Thars.

Since it had been raining in Kochi from the last couple of days, the tracks became even more slushy and tough which meant that all the participants were having a really hard time to even complete the first leg of the stage. Most of the teams had to use winches and cables almost at every obstacle. The night stage had three main legs- the first one had to be done with the stock Thar and it had to go through almost a quicksand-like slushy spot to make it to the first flag. Most of the teams had to winch out the stock Thar out of the slush as continuous drizzle had made things really hard for the stock setup. Each team had a time period of 15 minutes for each stage and most of them had to be taken out using JCB’s and cranes when the winches and cables gave up!

THIS YEaR’S cHallENGES wERE NO cHIlD’S plaY!

dAY 2 saw some bright sunlight early in the day which made things slightly easier compared to the night stage. The tracks had dried up which meant better traction in those slushy pits and ditches. The first round of Day 2 involved crossing over logs and a small water stream. Initially, it was tough for the starting challengers but the later ones got a nice gist of the same and were slightly better off. The third round involved crossing some huge rocks whereas the main star of the show was the Final round-

Demolition Derby. The was a major uproar amongst the crowd for this particular challenge. It involved crossing over a shipping container which was roughly 15 feet tall and then coming down on a fleet of old abandoned cars which meant toppling over was no biggie. This round involved a bigger dose of strategy than skill and most of the teams did a good job. One Thar fell flat sideways which making the first climb itself which goes on to exemplify that this year’s challenges were no child’s play. Thar fest gave Thar owners a chance to have a mild off-roading experience in their cars and was flagged off with a Thar Parade which had a convoy of more than 50 Thars. To make things exciting for us journos, Mahindra has organised a media round which involved 2 rounds of mild offroading. Among the challenges were water wading, 50-degree incline climb and drop and we were being judged for vehicle preservation and technique. I am not much of an off-road person but still managed to

come 2nd in a total number of 10 participants. The top 3 winners were awarded in the Awards ceremony later that night along with the club challenge winners. A rock band was performing at the Awards ceremony which in my opinion was bit of a stretch as everyone was damn tired and sleepy after 2 days of off-roading. Team AhoR/EJAMSA came first in the club challenge grabbing `3 Lakhs as the prize money whereas Team KASC came in second and took home `2 Lakhs. Overall, Thar Fest and Club Challenge go on to showcase that how motoring can connect likeminded people and bring them under the same roof from all across the country just to share one common passion! e bring to you a list of astounding goods and services available on sale on the dark web. The deep web is a massive unexplored portion of the internet. The popular, customary search engines are unable to find it, because the place is like the huge throng under the tip of an iceberg. The idea was originally created by the US government for the exchange of only classified information. However today, the dark web has become an uncontrolled marketplace. Any person can buy almost anything from here as far as they are able

to download the correct software and have a few bitcoins to spare. So what do you actually get on the deep web? Well, it offers a lot of stuff such as the ancient or unreachable commercial intranets. Apart from this, deep web consists of a lot of other stuff, especially anything and everything that people don’t want you to access. Hardcore pornography, repulsively unspeakable videos, hacked credit cards, industrial equipment, drugs, guns, (seriously, don’t watch any video on the deep web), and any other haphazard bizarre stuff, you

1. fake passports There is a dark website called “Fake Documents Service.” This site alleges to sell all the stolen passwords and documentation from virtually any nation. It also includes US passports for a sum of around a thousand dollars. No wonder, fake papers and documents are a sort of staple of the normal web, too, so the sham for dark web isn’t entirely necessary.

name it! And all this only competes for space and bitcoins in this mega online open market. Simply put, it is like eBay with terrorist arms expo coupled with your worst nightmares. If you wish to save a horrifying tour to this strange and bizarre place, then worry not! Our list here will save you this mess. We will take you on a swift guided tour of shocking things available on the black markets of the deep web. Here is an idea of the odd and, at times, maddening things that you can buy on the dark side of the web.

3. Writing on a Woman’s breasts 2. Weed Try this out yourself. Type “How to buy weed on the Deep Web,” and your standard search engine will bring up nearly a million hits on your PC. Similarly every bit and piece of marijuana is easily accessible on the dark web with little or no effort.

Yes this is wacky; a dark website named Black Ban provides the services of a gorgeous woman, who would allow you to “write on her boobs anything,” for the meager, meager price of just 20 bucks!

4. fake college Degrees Any which ways, it is super simple to find fake college degrees online. Therefore, it is still unknown why anyone would bother going to the Dark Web to buy such a thing, even if it is just a high-class college degree. Yet, they’re still out there, existing and waiting for you to frame and mount on your wall.

7. A Hitman 6. child Spirits 5. Anything that a random guy can make with a 3D printer Investigative media has found a guy selling about anything and everything that his 3D printer can manufacture. He made anything and everything from guns to credit card skimmers.

It seems that ghosts and the spirits of the dead children can also be purchased on the dark web. It appears difficult for people to put a dollar—uh, bitcoin—value on the souls of the deceased children

Let’s pray that you never be in a situation to ever need the services of a contract killer. But if ever you do, the dark web is there to help you out with it. Several sorts of assassins and assassin groups provide their murderous wares at the dark web locations such as the Assassination Market. However, we can’t know for sure whether they are actual trained shooters, or they are just some naughty kids who are trying to pull your leg.

8. All Sorts of Drugs Drugs are to the dark web what McDonald’s is to a fat kid. Even after shutting down the Silk Road, which is one of the dark web’s biggest drug markets, you can still purchase 99% of pure cocaine, black tar heroin, ecstasy, raw opium, and various different pain killers here. This market produces massive bitcoin profits, along with a lot of work for Afghan poppy growers.

ACCESS THE

DARK WEB

SAFELY WITH THESE STEPS

Y

ou can learn how to access the deep web in this step-by-step guide to the darkest corner of the World Wide Web.

The Deep Web is not so difficult to find. With the right programs and strong guts, anyone can find and browse the dark web. Just beneath the surface of the clear web— which includes the sites that we visit every day with popular search engines— are black hat hackers, human and drug traffickers, black markets stocked with stolen credit card information, and much more. The deep web refers specifically to those websites that hide their IP addresses. Such websites can only be accessed using certain encryption-friendly tools like The Onion Router. Also known as TOR, The Onion Router is an open source project, which is well-known for developing a Firefox-fork web browser. This router is preloaded with a lot of hard-coded security and encryption improvements. TOR lets people confuse their browsing 56 I

activity by shuffling a user’s IP address with the help of a secure and distributed network. The modern Dark Web’s infamous standing is well-accomplished. It goes without saying that the deep internet is extremely precarious. Various encrypted websites have existed for years now; however, the deep internet only found its way to mainstream prominence with the Silk Road, which is the now-extinct “Amazon for Drugs.” YouTube is packed with dark net’s horror stories. Consequently, the Hidden Wiki acts as a doorway to the criminal underground. There are also plenty of legit reasons why people would like to access the Dark Internet. The United Nations, CIA and FBI make use of the dark internet to monitor terror groups and keep an eye on illegal parvenus. IT corporate departments often crawl to the deep net to search stolen corporate credit card information and various other accounts.

STEP 1 Companies and several other individuals wish to access the Dark Web for various reasons. SMBs (small and medium-sized businesses) and companies may particularly want to keep an eye on the Dark Web portals for stolen corporate account information. People would want to access such sites for the evidence of any sort of identity theft. Just keep one thing in mind, make sure you clearly know what information you’re looking for. Have a strong purpose of why you’re logging onto the deep web. For instance, if you’re a reporter for a need to communicate with sources, then you must focus on encrypted communication, email, and PGP. Consequently, if you’re looking for credit card information, you will have to look for Silk Road-type markets selling hacked data. After you get what you need, make sure to safely disconnect TOR and Tails. Then log off immediately.

STEP 2

STEP 4 You need to download TOR and Tails. Both TOR and Tails are available on the TOR Project website. You can access the download links from https:// www.torproject.org. Attach your USB drive, and follow the instructions available on https://tails.boum.org.

Get hold of a brand new USB flash drive. You can buy a new 8 GB device or larger USB flash drive. Make sure to use a straight out of the box, unused drive. Then, you will need to install Tails, Tails alone, straight onto your new storage device.

Then, you will have to prepare your local machine. Preferably, we suggest you to use a brand new laptop. Since this option isn’t feasible for most of the users, you will have to do everything in your power to secure and isolate mission-critical information.

STEP 3

You must back up all your critical data and local files. You need to also make sure that your hardware is upgraded and free of any malware.

Browse safely through common portals and search engines such as follows: • • • • • •

Ahmia.fi DuckDuckGo Onion.link Grams Torch The Hidden Wiki

Encryption is pretty strong, but it certainly isn’t impassable. The FBI has discovered and also abused the vulnerabilities of the TOR network. And as it turns out, with a few good tools and brains, anyone can safely access the dark web.

STEP STEP 53

Just beneath the surface of the clear web— which includes the sites that we visit every day with popular search engines—are black hat hackers, human and drug traffickers, black markets stocked with stolen credit card information, and much more.

or is one of the most popular yet controversial tools to browse the internet anonymously and to access hidden sites on the dark web. There’s been a lot of confusion about who uses Tor and how does it work. There’s much more to Tor than just porn, black markets, or selling illegal drugs. Here are a few facts you should know about this controversial tool. 1. ToR NETWoRK ANd BRoWSER ARE diFFERENT ThiNGS Tor basically refers to two things. The first one is the network which is made of a huge number of volunteer computers that runs a specialized server application. The second one is the browser application which makes users enable for employing the network for hiding the trace while they access the web or anything that is exclusively on the Tor network.

2. ToR iS MUCh MoRE ThAN JUST iLLEGAL WEBSiTES We can’t deny that Tor is famous because it enables you to access all the online black markets like AlphaBay and Silk Road. But, if you dig deep, the Tor network runs legitimate services as well. This includes secure-drop portals for the leaks organization WikiLeaks and also journalism outlets like ProPublica and Intercept. Along with that, it also provides secure email services such as ProtonMail. 3. ToR hAS MoRE ThAN 2 MiLLioN USERS pER dAY As per the Tor Project, the non-profit organization which supports the network and develops the software, more than 2 Million users actively use Tor per day. It’s not restricted to the criminals and bad people only, people use it for several purposes. From activists to journalists and even law enforcement and military

uses Tor for establishing secure communications, avoiding surveillance, and circumventing censorship when you use the internet. 4. MoSTLY ToR USERS BRoWSE oNLY ThE SURFACE WEB The hidden Tor service has Tor’s traffic of only 1.5 percent. The rest of the traffic is directed to normal websites which is popularly known as the surface web. 5. U.S. GovERNMENT pLAYS A pivoTAL RoLE iN CREATiNG ANd FUNdiNG ToR Believe me or not, the U.S. Government plays a vital role in the creation of Tor, The onion routing technology was actually created by the U.S. Navy in the 1990s. This was done for protecting intelligence communications. The financial backers of Tor also include the

U.S. Department of State Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labor. 6. BE CAREFUL oThERWiSE ToR WiLL WoRK AGAiNST YoU If you are planning to use Tor for leaking information from your workplace, you’ll single yourself out if you’re the only one using it. Intercept website explicitly warns people for not contacting them from work networks even if people are using it because “being the only Tor user at work might make you stand out.” 7. ToR SLoWS doWN YoUR iNTERNET A LiTTLE BiT Tor is usually slower than your normal internet connection. This is because it involves a lot of encrypting and deflecting traffic across various nodes. The Tor team has been working hard to speed up its connections. Also, more relays are joining which is making the network faster.

8. FACEBooK ENGiNEERS RoLLEd oUT A ToR-FRiENdLY FACEBooK vERSioN Previously in October’14, Facebook engineers announced a hidden website allowing the Tor users for anonymously accessing the social network. This website is known as facebookcorewwwi. onion. I think it’s really useful for people who love their privacy and also for those living in countries like Iran and China where Facebook is banned. The software engineer of Facebook, Alec Muffet announced in April’2016 that more than 1 Million users visited this social media portal per month. 9. ToR MAiNTAiNS A SoCiAL CoNTRACT WiTh ThE USERS Tor has a six-point contract that they maintain with its users. The commitment in the contract reads “resist any pressure from adversaries who want to harm

our users. We will never implement front doors or back doors into our projects. In our commitment to transparency, we are honest when we make errors, and we communicate with our users about our plans to improve.” 10. ToR NETWoRK iS GRoWiNG ANd ThAT Too qUiCKLY Tor Metrics is a website that keeps a track of all the data points associated with Tor. As per the reports in August 2017, the Tor Browser downloads crossed up to 1.4 Million in the first six months of the fiscal year in comparison to 2016. The browser has been downloaded approximately 17.5 Million times around that time.

NASTY PEOPLE OF THE WEB

B

elieve it or not, the internet is full of negative influences. These nasty people try to make you feel low in every possible way. They will try to con and embarrass you, spoil your machine with software virus, cause you emotional grief and also sometimes threaten or personally attack you. Always remember, people are losing moral ethics and not everyone is nice on the web, so just stay safe.

Internet Trolls Internet Trolls are undoubtedly the worst form of bad people on the internet. These people love to make people feel pathetic about them and take pleasure in creating conflict and rage. On almost every social media portal, you’ll find internet trolls.

Racist Haters Trolls and Haters come in the same category but are more extreme in expressing their personal opinion and emotions. Racist haters can be distinguished by their broadcast of hate and intolerance which they purposely do to attack people’s belief and ideas. These haters can further be categorized into two. Some of them just do it for the fun of trolling while others are dedicated outraging people full of anti-social beliefs, racism, and bigotry.

Cyberstalkers People are already sick of physical stalkers lately, but more troublesome people are now the Cyberstalkers. Now, it is more common than physical harassment. In my opinion, these people have some issues and the same disturbed individuals don’t miss a chance to express their obsessions. They use email, facebook comments, Instagram comments, twitter, and even GPS tracking. It’s high time that they are acknowledged.

Clickjackers There are people on the web who work as antisocial programmers. Their main task is placing invisible buttons on the web pages. These people are known as Clickjackers. We being the victim, click on these buttons and activate their commands unknowingly. Before you even realize, your Facebook privacy settings changes and your account follows some stranger’s twitter feed. Not only this, the webcams secretly gets enabled. These clickjackers play really dirty and this nasty scam is spreading like wildfire.

Hoaxers

Zombie Masters

Hoaxers are similar to spammers but are more exaggerated. Do you get unexpected fake news on your email? If yes, please don’t fall for these hoaxes. I would suggest you to never forward these hot news to your friends, you’ll be shaming yourself. Hoaxers come in the form of hoax photos, email chain letters and exaggerated fake stories in the mailbox.

This is by far the dirtiest violation of privacy. Being zombied means, someone will install remote control programs onto your PC and then take over to use for bidding. When your machine becomes a zombie computer, it will perform hackers attack other websites as well.

Hackers Spammers Do you get emails announcing that you’ve won 50 million dollars? Do you get exciting offer emails from different companies? If you come in this category and have been spammed by emails in a similar way, then you have been attacked by Ratware. Ratware is actually customized software which is used by spammers to send a large number of illegal messages and emails. Don’t forget to unsubscribe from these spam emails.

Cyberbullies Phishermen The Phishermen are basically the modern online con artists. Named combining the words “phony” and “fishing”, they lure users and make them prey with fraudulent emails. These emails are also known as spoofs.

Cyberbullying or in other words digital harassment is not less than physical bullying. In simple terms, it’s like dominating other users by harassing them online. This is almost like going through public humiliation. It’s no more like a trivial teenage trend. This trend is actually causing deep trauma in people and has even led to suicides.

Hackers come in varied versions. But, here we are trying to know what a modern-day computer hacker is? Well, there are basically four types of hackers in the world and not all of them are evil. If you also tinker with your PC, then you might be considered as a lowkey hacker yourself.

Sexting I don’t know why this is even a trend. Sexting is not bad if you’re a couple. But, stay clear of this game if you’re doing it with any random guy. It might get you into a world of humiliation. It can either embarrass you or defame you. Trust me, the viral risk included is hampering the youth by putting them down in the eyes of thousands of people. Don’t be a sexter and never play this game even if you are lured to the core.

There’s also a new content including a new original YouTube series in VR, adding to the 250 Virtual Reality titles Google already offers. Daydream View now comes in charcoal, fog and coral editions. The VR headset is made up of a lightweight fabric for a comfortable feel. The controller lets you interact with the virtual world, letting you take various actions with help of motion and gesture sensors and physical buttons.

The new Pixelbook launch by Google comes with Google’s Chrome operating system. Chrome uses apps from Google’s Store and relies on primarily cloud-based features for storage. The 12.3-inch Pixelbook can be used as a laptop or rotate full 360 degrees and use it as a tablet. The whole thing weighs just two pounds which is quite lightweight compared to any another laptop available in the market. the movie star Ishq Vishq was the first film of your career; you were a heartthrob then and you are a heartthrob now. What has changed?

Oh, everything! I’m a very different person than what I was at 21 which is when I did Ishq Vishq. I was literally entering adulthood at that time and taking my first few steps on a journey I didn’t know would take me where. I was a complete newcomer, I had no experience and very little understanding. I was all things new and inexperienced. Even though my parents were actors, I lived the first half of my life in Delhi and lived with my mom who was a single parent when I came here. I didn’t have that much exposure into the film industry so it was this huge opportunity in front of me. I don’t think I was very formed as a personality; about the kind of work I wanted to do. I wasn’t very clear about the ways of the industry or how was everything was supposed to function because the film industry was a cocoon at that time; you cannot gauge what it’s like from the outside and when you enter, it’s a lot to deal with. I was just this guy who always wanted to be an actor and there I was doing this film so it was like living a dream. Today, I’ve been working for 15 years and I’m much more defined as a personality, lot more experienced as an actor, more aware about my strengths and weaknesses, the kind of journey I want to take as an actor, and the experiences I want to take to the audience. So, it’s a very large question but I’ve tried to answer it as well as I could. We saw your first look from Padmavati and you looked fab! What was it like working on the film?

It’s a bit premature to start talking about the film because we haven’t started speaking about it. But I’m playing Maharaja Ratan Singh, King of Chittor. I think it’s a great combination of a warrior, a fiercely loving husband and a king. It’s a very heroic, noble and dramatic character; very different from Haider and Udta Punjab which were very grey and intense kind of characters. It’s been a pleasure to work with Mr. Bhansali. I’ve seen his work over the years and been an admirer, and now to get an opportunity to work with him is great. It’s really participating in cinema being shot at its best! To me,

76 I

I NOV 17

it was just the amazing feel of the world that he creates. He made the entire fort of Chittor in Film City so it is stunning to see things like that. It’s a very special story, probably one of his best films. The last 1 year has been completely dedicated to this one film but it’s been a fascinating journey nevertheless. It’s been a very tiring film to do but an inspiring one to do, too. I’m really looking forward to the film coming out on the 1st of December and very excited to see people’s reactions. Which is- The one film of yours you love the most and regret doing the most?

There are quite a few that I regret doing but I don’t think that’s appropriate to name them. At this point, Padmavati is the most significant film in my career. Maybe if you ask me this question at another time I would feel differently but I’m so into Padmavati right now that it feels like everything in my life comes down to it. Name the singular most annoying thing about Bollywood.

There is nothing annoying about Bollywood but the one thing that I find most difficult to manage is finding a personal space and learning to be a public personality because everything is about prioritisation. One’s personal life has equal if not more importance than one’s professional life, so to find that balance is definitely a constant struggle.

If you could customise AR on your own, what would you do?

I would customise messages as per the need of the hour...maybe make my movie character pop out of a poster or even give brand communication a whole new level on consumer engagement. Which movie character would you bring to life using AR?

When it comes to movie stars, there are many legends. But I would love to bring back Michael Jackson. Imagine shooting a sequence with him; would be completely out of this world! What is the Future of AR in India and the movie industry?

As I mentioned, it would primarily be used in the marketing of movies like making the actors come alive on your devices via posters/ads, etc. Your current tech addiction and one tech product you are waiting to get your hands on?

My current Tech addiction are my various speakers. Music is a big part of my daily life whether I’m working or playing with my daughter. One gadget you can’t wait to get your hands on?

I can’t wait to get behind the wheels of a Tesla car. An electric car that drives like a supercar would be great to experience. If you had to make your own gadget, what would it be like?

I can’t waIt to get behInd the wheels of a tesla car. an electrIc car that drIves lIke a supercar would be great to experIence.

First phone was Nokia, and now I have an Android and an Apple phone.

up aNd close One thing that beats the shit out of you.

I’m a very chilled out person, I don’t have any fears or phobias as such. (pause) My wife, perhaps! (laughs) One thing you regret the most.

Not finding more time to be with the people I love. If there’s one thing I’d want to change is giving more time to the people who matter. A lot of times we end up giving time to things we think are important and later it’s just like, ‘Why was I giving it any importance? It was so unnecessary; it didn’t have any meaning.’ One thing you now know that your 15-year-old self needed to know?

It’s not as simple as it looks, buddy! One question that irritates you the most.

The question “What irritates me the most“ is what I think irritates me the most, haha! Just kidding. Before I got married, a lot of people kept asking me when I was getting married and things like that. It used to come from my mom, my dad, from everywhere! But fortunately, now that thing has stopped. What keeps Shahid Kapoor up and running?

Music, coffee and love for what I do! And the one thing that is an instant energiser is my daughter’s smile! When she looks at me and smiles, it makes my day; I get through the day. There are so many days we’ve been shooting in Film city and so many times I’ve thought about staying in a hotel closer as we know how bad the traffic in the city can get but I’ve never been able to do that. Whatever little time that I get to spend with her in the morning is the time is actually meant to energise me and give me the positivity and energy to go out and do good work. I think she is my energiser bunny! Youngsters today need to know-

What I told myself - ‘It isn’t as easy as it looks, buddy!’ If life has to go your way in the next 10 years, how do you picture it to be?

I don’t view life like that. I think life is great wherever it is. I’m very happy and thankful for whatever I have and wherever life takes me, I’ll learn to be happy. I’m not sitting here thinking - Mereko yeh chahiye, mereko voh chahiye; I don’t think like that anymore.

I’ve come to learn that it’s best to allow life to take you where it has to take you and to give it your best. And there’s always something to love, enjoy and be happy about! I just hope life gives me the opportunity to spend time with people who matter, do work that I really believe in and be able to make something out of myself. Seeing in hindsight, what would you have done differently in your life?

Oh many, many things! I think I had no idea what I was doing most of the time in the first 10 years of my career. Only sometimes I got it right. I think it was lack of information, lack of people telling you what to do, lack of exposure, all those things. When you’re working your way outside in, when you’re an outsider, when you don’t have any information, people you can learn from, experiences to take from, everything is mostly first at stake. Then you learn from that mistake and then try and get it right the next time. So, all those things; I could’ve been better at many things. Winning at relationships - what’s the secret mantra?

Always listen to the woman; they are always right! Shahid Kapoor : the movie.

You think you know me but you don’t!

the regular Joe What keeps you in such good shape?

I like going to the gym and training even though it’s tiring and demanding. I’m very passionate about it and helps me feel better about myself. You should find something that you enjoy doing, that helps you become fitter. Don’t do something you don’t enjoy. One regular day in the life of SK.

My days are very irregular. My job and the nature of my reality right now are different everyday. My work spaces, the characters I play and my timings are all different. Right now, I’m 2 years into marriage and 1 year into having a baby so every day is new. There’s something new that happens every day. One fashion trend you’d make obsolete forever.

The thing with fashion is that it needs to be rediscovered every few years and you need to have a new take on something that you like. Something I don’t like today, 5 years later somebody might do a different version of it and I’ll think

it’s really cool! So there are no do’s and don’ts in fashion; it’s just about timing. One song you can’t get out of your head at the moment.

I never listen to the same song again! I listen to a lot of beat house and techno and there are too many amazing artists in the world who are creating too many amazing sets. So I have an account on Soundcloud where I follow all the artists and am always listening to new music, almost always! One advice you’re thankful you got.

Well, as an actor, the one piece of advice I got from my father was that less is more and it’s better to work inside out than to work outside in which essentially means that learn to feel an emotion before showing it rather than showing an emotion and then trying to feel it. That was some amazing advice I got from him and it has always stayed with me. In a parallel universe, Shahid Kapoor would be excelling at?

Hmm...interesting...what would I be excelling at? There are so many thoughts! You know, I’m very bad at time management and I’m not very good with being politically correct. So these are two qualities I’d like to have in a parallel universe because I don’t think in this universe they are going to happen! One Movie you can watch again and again.

I love this movie of my dad’s called Jaane bhi do Yaaron! It’s a hilarious movie and every time I catch it, I end up watching the whole movie. You’d like to live his/her life for a day.

Nobody! That would mean I don’t have my daughter and my wife. However, I wouldn’t mind swapping my life with my daughter or my wife for a day to see how they view me; whether they view me in a crappy way or if I am really likeable from their point of view. That one thing you Googled last you’d be embarrassed we found out.

I don’t think I’m going to tell you that! What other project is Shahid Kapoor planning to blow us away with?

We don’t really have a title for the film yet, it’s by the director of the film Toilet : Ek Prem Katha. Everything else about the film needs to be defined but that is what I’m going to do next. Any sign-off thoughts?

Watch this space, lots more coming!

The basic idea is just to try new things virtually! Let it be a sofa, cupboard, study table or even the colour of the walls! It would give you a quick and better preview about the changes that you have made or the changes you are planning to make. Not only that but it will also help you to have accurate measurements of the new furniture that is to be placed. It will also give you a quick preview of your new setup. It would be great to have an Augmented Reality apparatus that has facial recognition technology built in to tell me in real time who a person is, how I know them and other social media information. The thought of everyone having this information would probably freak some people out initially, but over time I think it people would value it. Problem in the near future will be lack of time leading to low social interaction, but with the help of Augmented Reality, social interaction can be a lot easier for a busier world.

ar?

We asked a few people what they would do if AR was available at their disposal and here’s a compilation of their minds.

For the time being, I would want to have softwares such as Skype, Facetime and Google duo come up with their own AR applications. The U.I. (user interface) of popular video calling applications is pretty much same anywhere. Well, with AR, that simple user interface is about to change. Currently, in development, companies such as Microsoft are working on creating a hardware and software products which will make those video calls more interactive. One example is that instead of just seeing the person on your phone screen, you will be able to “project” them anywhere you like, such as your couch or next to you. Although nothing can compare to the person actually being with you, AR will help you see and communicate with the person as if they are right there!

05

AR is about adding to what we’re perceiving as reality. It’s added information or visuals to enhance the current experience. I think using it to watch live plays (assuming they can encode and render that quickly) would end really cool. You could watch a real play from your living room enacted right in front of you or even on the street with friends. I think being able to share an AR experience is the secret to it taking off- not social media sharing. Rather, you and I watch the same thing or are playing the same game or are reading the same thing where the illustration comes alive and we’re both able to interact with it at the same time and see each other’s interactions so that we’re both perceiving the projection at the same time to the point where it’s a shared reality that can be discussed and experienced in pairs or in groups.

hat is augmented reality (ar)? Augmented Reality is defined as an enhanced version of reality where live direct or indirect views of physical real-world environments are augmented with superimposed computergenerated images over a user's view of the real-world, thus enhancing one’s current perception of reality.

introduction to augmented reality technology (ar) Augmented Reality enhances the things that we see, feel and hear by bringing elements of the virtual world into the real world. Basically, augmented reality comes in the middle of the mixed reality spectrum and lies between the virtual and real world. The word ‘augment’ means to add something. As far as augmented reality is concerned, things like

sounds, touch feedback, and graphics are added into the natural world. In virtual reality, an entirely virtual environment is inhabited, but in augmented reality the existing natural environment gets on top an overlay of virtual information. The AR users get an experience of a better world in which virtual information is used as a tool for providing assistance in the day to day activities.

ugmented Reality Technology has several existing categories. Each category differs from the other as far as the objectives and the use of application is considered. We are listing below various types of technologies that make up the AR:

1. marker based ar Marker Based Augmented Reality, also known as the Image Recognition uses a type of visual marker and a camera like a QR or 2D code for producing a result only when the reader senses the marker. It uses a camera on the device for distinguishing a marker from all the other real world objects. Simple patters like a QR code are taken in use as the markers because it easily gets recognized and also doesn’t require loads of processing power for reading. It also calculates the orientation and the exact position for overlaying any kind of information or content on the marker.

2. markerless ar Markerless Augmented Reality, also known as locationbased, position based or GPS, is one of the most widely implemented applications of AR. It uses a digital compass, an accelerometer, velocity meter and a GPS which is embedded in the device for providing data based on the location. Markerless AR provides the wide availability of smartphones and features based on location detection. Mostly, it is used for location-centric mobile applications, to find business nearby, and to map direction.

onto real world surfaces. This category of AR application allows this sending light onto a real world surface for human interaction and then senses their interaction such as the touch of the light projected. The user’s interaction is detected by checking differences between the altered projection caused by the user’s interaction and a known or expected projection. The Projection Based Augmented Reality also utilizes laser plasma technology for projecting a three – dimensional (3D) interactive hologram into mid-air.

4. superimpositioN based ar Superimposition Based Augmented Reality fully or partially replaces the basic view of an object and brings in a new augmented reality view of the same object. In this category of AR, the object plays an important role. This is because the app can’t replace the basic view with an augmented view if the object is not determined. The best example of this type of AR can be found in the Ikea augmented reality furniture catalogue. This works in a way that the users can place Ikea furniture virtually in their home by downloading and scanning selected pages in the digital or print catalogue with the help of AR.

how does augmeNted realitY work? Before we start talking about how it works, it’s important to understand the objective behind the augmented reality. The main objective of AR is bringing computer generated objects into the real world which is only visible to the users. In most of the AR apps, the user gets to see synthetic and natural light both. This is done when the projected images are overlaid on top of a pair of see-through glasses or shades. It allows the interactive virtual objects and images for lying on top of the user’s view of the real world. AR devices are mostly selfcontained which means that unlike the HTC Vive

VR headsets or Oculus Rift, these are completely not tethered and also don’t need a cable or a computer for proper functioning.

The AR can be displayed on a wide variety of displays from monitors and screens to glasses or handheld devices. Head-up displays (HUD) or Google Glasses generally put AR directly on your face in the form of glasses. As technology is advancing every now and then, the augmented reality devices will need less hardware and start applying things such as virtual retinal displays and contact lenses.

proJectioN You already know that ‘Projection Based AR’ is already a category but we are talking about a miniature projector which is seen in an outward or forward facing position mainly on wearable AR headsets. These projectors can easily turn any surface into an interactive environment. As we already

discussed above, camera takes the information and it is used for examining the surroundings. After that, it is processed and then projected onto a surface in front of the user. This can be anything, a wall, a wrist or even another individual. The use of projection in augmented reality devices means that screen real estate will eventually become a lesser important component. In the future, you may not need an iPad/smartphone to play an online game as you will be able to play it on a surface in front of you.

might have “an array of many small curved mirrors” and some other might be having a normal double-sided mirror where one surface reflects incoming light to a side-mounted camera while another surface reflects light from a side-mounted display for the user. As far as Microsoft Hololens is considered, the mirrors are used for see-through holographic lenses which are referred as Waveguides by Microsoft. This uses an optional projection system for beaming holograms into the eyes. Some kind of a light-engine emits the light towards both lenses. These lenses have three layers of glasses of 3 different primary colors – red, green & blue. After the light hits the layers, it enters the eye at particular angles, colors, intensities and then produces a final holistic image on the retina. More or less, all these reflections have only one motive, and it is for assisting with the alignment of the image to the user’s eye.

The components mentioned here are a GPU, a CPU, Microchip, Global Positioning System (GPS), RAM, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi Microchip, Flash Memory, and more. However, advanced AR devices like the Microsoft Hololens use an accelerometer for measuring the speed in which your head is moving, a gyroscope for measuring the orientation and tilt of your head, and a magnetometer for functioning like a compass and figuring out the direction in which your head is pointing. All these in unison give an amazing experience.

A touch pad or voice command is the key to control the augmented reality devices. The touch pads are also placed on the device in such a way that it is seamlessly reachable. It senses the pressure changes which occur whenever a user taps or swipes a specific spot. Voice commands work just like they work for your smartphones. This means, a small microphone placed on the device will pick up your voice. After that, a microprocessor interprets the commands. Google Glass augmented reality device is one such voice command which has been programmed from a list of commands which can be easily used. here’s been a lot of noise about the Virtual Reality. That’s where people put on heavy and expensive goggle type headsets and see a simulated world around them. It’s considered great for playing games but somehow I feel its super isolating. If you ask me, Augmented Reality is a bigger deal. That’s because in AR, you can still see the real world with some superimposed graphics on it. With your movement, the angles, sizes and distances also change in real time as if they really do exist. Previously this year, Apple highlighted AR by releasing ARKit. This ARKit is a set of tools for software companies which make things easier in

developing Augmented Reality apps. Using these kits, Ikea just took 10 weeks to come up with Ikea Place. Ikea Place is an app that enables you to try Ikea furniture in your home and try it in different angles. Ikea’s Director of digital transformation, Michael Valdsgaard said, “Apple has solved things from both a software point of view and a hardware point of view, so they have the full spectrum. Nobody else has that.” Apple recently announced iOS 11 which is now required for using all the latest AR apps making iPhone the most significant Augmented Reality platform on the planet. Now, the AR apps are reaching the app store. I’m listing the most prominent 7 AR apps for iPhone below:

02. ikea place (Free)- Ikea Place displays a catalogue of all the living room furniture. Ikea’s Director, Mr. Valdsgaard said, “We know that people often struggle. They don’t know if they’re picking the right color, the right style. It’s an investment, so most people postpone the purchasing decision because they’re not 100 percent confident. We’ve focused on the living-room setting, which is where we think people need the most help, at the earliest.” All you have to do is to tap on the furniture you want, then pick a color and then click on the iPhone screen for plopping it down to the floor. After that, you can easily use your fingers to rotate, twist or move it around according to your preference. However, it doesn’t look that real, and some of the furniture look computer generated. Even the fabric and leather can’t be trusted with what it looks in the AR app. The metal and wood surface looks more believable. It is somewhere between a useful tool and a fascinating experiment as the angle, size and smoothness in the movement looks very authentic.

03. porsche ar - imagiNe (Free) - In my opinion, this app is pure genius because it enables you to witness the exact $90,000 priced, Porsche Boxter convertible would look like in real life. This app lets you move your iPhone around a bit by offering you three different Porsche models. You can click on it to drop where you want it. After you do all this, you get to see a cherry-red, spotless, shiny, detailed car in full size. You can lean over to look inside it, walk around it, stick your foot or hand beneath the body and do all such believable stuff. There are four big + buttons below which opens a side panel. It lets you change the car model, hubcap style, interior color, and body color of the car. People are even more prone to buy Ikea furniture than Porches, this app is definitely an amazing AR demo which will blow your mind.

04. shark (Free) - The shARk by Curioscope is very similar to the Porsche app. However, the difference is that in this app, you’ll see a tiger shark on your screen. This shark will be swimming through the air. You can move your phone; walk around

in search of the shark as it keeps going offscreen while swimming. To attract the shark’s attention, you will have to tap on the screen which will drop a small piece of floating food. With time, if you get bored with this tiger shark, you can anytime pay for installing a great white shark. There are similar apps like this such as the AR Dragon and the Walking Dead AR. Believe me, it’s a super fun experience to play this game.

05. measurekit ar - This is an app which can be very useful for the progressive modern world. It enables you to a virtual tape measure. All you have to do is to point at one corner of furniture, and then tap to anchor the ‘tape measure’. After that, point at the opposite corner and you’re done measuring that particular furniture. What you get is an onscreen line, drawn crispy in white showing that distance in exact feet and inches or meters and centimeters. If you want to use it for more purposes, you can shed some bucks and get additional features like person’s height measurer. 06. hair color bY modiFace (Free) - This is a nice app for the

fashion lovers who love experimenting with their hair color. It is simple and useful at the same time. With the help of this app, you can use your phone in the form of a magic mirror. Click on whichever hair color you like from the palette placed at the bottom of the screen. In this way, you’ll be able to see how you look in that particular hair color. The best thing is how beautifully it traces your hair. There are about 22 different colors offered for free. Red, Brunette, Blonde, Pink, Blue, Green, Purple, and more are offered for free. You can further pay to unlock more colors. If you like the way you look in any particular hair color, you can immediately take a screenshot for future or real reference or even freak your friends out by making them believe it’s real.

07. Night skY 5 (Free) - In this app, you can point your phone at the sky and see the stars in the form of a constellation. It conveniently connects the stars by line segments to form a constellation. Point your phone at the sky and see the stars—labeled and, in the case of constellations, conveniently connected by line segments. You can also try Sky Guide AR for a similar experience.

ugmented Reality (AR) is one of the most trending technology in the recent years. Even big companies like Apple and Google are investing a lot to integrate

AR functionality on their operating system. While Google called it an AR Core, the Apple named it ARKit. Both the tools are available to developers, so they can design AR apps especially for each of the operating system. There

are smartphones designed specially to support AR technology right out of the box. So we have listed down the best smartphones designed to support Augmented Reality.

Asus Zenfone AR A phone with three cameras! Yes, you heard it right. Asus launched Zenfone AR integrated with three-camera in a single phone and named Asus TriCam system. Three cameras system consisting of a 23MP main camera, motion tracking camera, and depth-sensing camera. This device is the first smartphone that will be Tango enabled and Day Dream ready. Tango is a set of sensors and computer-vision software by Google that enables unique AR(Augmented Reality) experience such as AR gaming, AR utilities, and indoor navigation. DayDream is a Google’s platform for high-quality Mobile virtual reality and support DayDream VR apps. Speaking about specs, Asus packs powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor that is optimized for Tango. And with the launch, it became the world’s first smartphone that features whopping 8GB RAM. APPLe iPhone’s Apple has been hard working on ARKit platform to take the advantage of Apple’s new camera and A11 Bionic chip on the recently announced iPhone 8 and iPhone X. ARKit was first announced back at Apple’s WWDC this year. Apple is working hard in bringing AR to mainstream consumers by baking it directly into the iPhone and iOS. Apple’s new ARKit perform well even on those phones without the same camera and sensor hardware that will be baked into the new iPhone 8 and iPhone X. Apple iPhone 8 & 8 Plus are updated versions of last year’s iPhone 7 and 7 Plus models featuring with faster processors, wireless charging, updated cameras and a slightly tweaked design. The iPhone 8 has a 4.7-inch ‘Retina’ display. The iPhone 8 Plus, on the other hand, comes with a larger 5.5-inch panel. Both smartphones offer a TrueTone display and 3D Touch. Both the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus comes with the newer A11 Bionic chip, which consists of six cores — four low-efficiency and two high-performance. While the iPhone 8 comes with an all-new 12MP sensor, the iPhone 8 plus comes with a dual camera setup at the rear with two 12MP sensors with apertures of f/1.8 and f/2.8.

Recently, Google has pushed its own version of AR kit for its own Google eco-system. Google is coming up with AR Core for Android-based operating system. Though the AR Core will be supported on most of the Android operating system, currently Google is showcasing their AR demo on a Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL that offers same high-end, bleeding-edge tech as the original Pixel phone. Both devices feature a mostly-aluminum chassis, complete with the glass panel towards the top of the device. As expected, the new Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL smartphone has a few differences between one another. The most notable difference can be found on the front. The Pixel 2 sports a 5.0-inch full HD OLED display with a more traditional 16:9 aspect ratio, while the Pixel 2 XL goes with a 18:9 aspect ratio with its 6.0-inch P-OLED display. Also, due to the difference in size, the Pixel 2 comes with a much smaller 2,700 mAh battery while the Pixel 2 XL sports a 3,520 mAh battery. The camera also scores a 98 from DXO Mark, the leading independent camera rating group. That’s the highest rating for a smartphone camera ever.

Lenovo PhAb 2 PRo Lenovo was the world first consumer device to be based on Tango, an augmented reality computing platform developed and designed by Google. It uses computer vision to detect position relative to the world around them without using GPS or any other external signals. Lenovo Phab 2 Pro comes with four cameras -- an 8MP front-facing camera, a 16MP RGB rear camera, a motion tracking rear camera and a depth tracking rear camera. The device is powered by octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 processor paired with 4GB RAM and 64GB of inbuilt storage and offers support for microSD card. The device has 4,050mAh battery capacity and supports Qualcomm Quick Charging technology. Also, the device sports a 6.4-inch QHD display and Dolby’s 5.1 audio capture technology. The Dual-SIM smartphone supports LTE, WiFi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 4.0 and includes 3.5mm audio jack. The smartphone runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system out of the box.

reaking into an existing market that is home to fierce, established brands isn’t a piece of cake. It may take a while, or many many years before that begins to happen. However, certain brands, with their unique product proposition, climb up the ladder only to become a major player. Under Armour is one such brand that broke in and how, and now eventually enjoys a healthy valuation of $4.8 billion by selling products in more than 60 countries around the world. To break into statistics and how the business grew to become what it is now, we spanned their journey to show you How Big is Under Armour and here is all the juice.

Under Armour was founded in the year 1996 and despite being a much younger player as compared to other established athletic brands Reebok and Nike, it has garnered an impressive standing for itself in the last 20 years and is home to over fifteen thousand employees. Being number 3 in a recent top of 50 sporting goods brands by share of lifestyle consumer purchases in 2014 and ranking among the top five most valuable sports business brands worldwide in 2016 also show that the brand is doing quite well for itself. Who is Kevin PlAnK?

Kevin A. Plank is a 45 years old American Entrepreneur and an alumnus of University of Maryland. He is the Founder, CEO and Chairman of Under Armour and the one who cultivated the business initially started in his grandmother’s basement in Washington, D.C to a global brand, and the rest is history as we know it. What is more interesting? Plank has a net worth of $2.5 Billion.

Under ArmoUr for dummies.

Under Armour, Inc. is an American sporting goods manufacturer which supplies athletic and casual apparel, as well as footwear. Its Global headquarters are located in Baltimore, Maryland and additionally has many offices worldwide in locations like Amsterdam (European headquarters), China, Indonesia and Canada.

98 I

hOW

Although Under Armour’s biggest market is in the US, it has had its biggest team deal with London soccer team Tottenham Hotspur.

3

How it all stArted?

Most successful businesses have an interesting backstory to tell and UAA doesn’t disappoint in this case. It all started when Founder Kevin Plank, then a 23-year-old former University of Maryland special teams captain, brought an idea to life that he got on the football field. Back in the days while playing for

5

his team at the University of Maryland, Plank was wary of changing out of the sweat-soaked T-shirts over and over again worn under his jersey. Knowing that there has to be a solution for this problem, he decided to do something about it when he noticed that his compression shorts remained dry.

4

Soon after graduation, Plank started his small venture in the basement of his grandmother’s house in Washington D.C and made a first prototype of the shirt which he gave to his Maryland teammates and friends who had gone on to play in the NFL. Thus, this was the beginning of a new industry that changed the way athletes dress forever. He soon mastered the T-shirt design built from microfibers and it was only before time that major competing brands including Nike, Adidas and Reebok followed suit.

Statistics

More than half of UA’s consumer base, 53% precisely, consists of male and 47% female. They fall in the age bracket of 25-34 with a household income ranging from $75,000 to $149,000. Its apparel segment forms the most successful product category representing a 67% share of total sales, while footwear and accessories sales account for 21 percent and 8 percent respectively.

Up & Up

Following a front page advertisement featuring Oakland Raiders quarterback Jeff George wearing an Under Armour mock turtleneck, more and more people began to take notice of the brand and that led Under Armour to its first major sale in the form of a request for 10 shirts by an equipment manager from Georgia Tech. This deal was a milestone for the brand as it brought more orders from other football teams. That same year, Under Armour launched several new apparel lines including ColdGear, TurfGear, AllseasonGear, and StreetGear. By the end

of 1996, Under Armour had sold 500 Under Armour HeatGear shirts, generating $17,000 for the company. Under Armour, that was originally renamed from Heart and Body Armour, actually came to be called so when Plank’s brother asked him, “How’s that company you’re working on, uhh... Under Armor?” Plank, unsure whether or not his brother was messing with him quite liked it and

hence the name. The company’s logo is also conspicuous and has become a permanent stay of many professional sporting events, right from football and boxing matches to snowboarding and gymnastics competitions.

6

So what makes Under ArmoUr the rage it is? We think Under Armour brought a strong USP to the table and that precisely was and is what puts it apart. Inspired by his problem, Plank went ahead and created a T-shirt using moisture-wicking synthetic fabric that kept athletes cool, dry, and light, the first of its kind. This highly innovative and super cool feature is a winner for us.

7

Then and Now ProdUcts

The success of Under Armour is attributed to its innovative use of fabric technologies, eco-friendly operations and high brand recognition, from both professional athletes and local communities. The brand product repertoire includes items like athletic shoes, t-shirts, jackets, hoodies, pants, leggings, shorts and accessories such as bags, gloves, caps and protective gear. Additionally, Under Armour produces American football, basketball and soccer uniforms, among other sports. The expansion of apparel lines TurfGear, AllseasonGear, and StreetGear further gave an impetus to the brand in the flourishing apparel industry.

the need to produce women athletic clothing to fill the gap it wasn’t serving, Under Armour worked to reframe its image as a malecentric brand. Thus, it launched their Women’s Performance Gear product line in 2003. Interestingly, Under Armour’s first patent was for a sports bra. Consequently, Women’s apparel grew to around $500 million, compared with total apparel sales of over $1.76 billion. The brand also faced a

challenge it needed to address when it was said that their clothes need to be more fashionable; to produce more clothes that people can wear outside the gym. The sportswear landscape is taking a shift, where customers want stylish athleisure and no longer want athletic clothes just for working out. Considering the fact that the company can’t rely solely on its performance wear,

Plank admitted,

“We need to become more fashionable with the products we have out there.” The brand, though in the fitness category, has also branched out to cover a wider range of services. UA is also a tech company and hence has launched its own fitness app called Record that has over 130 million users across its apps network. Moreover, UAA has spent $710 million on acquiring other apps, including MapMyFitness, Endomondo, and MyFitnessPal.

Under Armour essentially manufactured apparels for men, mainly for the bulky type. Realising

PromotionAl efforts

One reason behind Under Armour’s rapid upward growth is the way it promotes itself. In the year 2016, the sportswear company invested about 478 million U.S. dollars in marketing activities. It also believes in directto-consumer marketing by cutting out the middleman thus allowing the brand higher margins. At the same time, it also gives the brand the flexibility to freely experiment with merchandising and flow of products, and carefully craft its message to target specific groups of consumers both domestically and abroad. Under Armour focusses a lot on athlete endorsements and has had roped in Olympians Lindsay Vonn, Michael Phelps, golfer Jordan

Spieth, pitcher Clayton Kershaw, quarterback Cam Newton for its campaigns. In addition, Tom Brady, his wife Gisele Bundchen, and many more have endorsed the brand. The well-researched strategy has helped the company emerge as a leader in sports because of the success of the athletes that endorse the brand. The brand has been a sponsor for many events to increase its visibility. As of 2012, Under Armour is the sponsor of the Baseball Factory’s “Premium Video Program”. The brand is also big on social causes with UA Give Back - Under Armour’s effort to become involved in different facets of the world community. They have different branches in their organization that specialize in each cause that Under Armour supports consisting of - UA Power in Pink, UA Freedom and UA Win Global.

We think Under Armour brought a strong USp to the table-a T-shirt using moisture-wicking synthetic fabric that kept athletes cool, dry, and light, the first of its kind.

T

here has been a lot of debate about what you should really have in order to carve a career that will most likely last for a good amount of time. There are certain forces, which on adaption, will shape your work and career opportunities.

that is shaping your work and career. You need to always think about how every factor will impact on you and your close relatives. Eventually, making wise choices will form your capacity of understanding. It is better not to bank on governments or big businesses to make the decisions for you.

It is time to get virtual. We have entered a generation of major technological upgrades. If you are young and are already in sync with the boom of technology, you are fine. However, if you are over 30, there are chances that you somewhat lag in tech knowledge. Your work will become global soon, and you will surely be working with people in a virtual environment. It is very important for you to learn and get acquainted with these developments. Make sure you do not lack in terms of basic technological knowledge.

2

You need to research for the important skills. Sit down and think hard about the skill areas that will most probably be important in the future. Skill set such as health and wellness, sustainability, and social media are the areas where workforce will be required further in the future. Keep in mind that jobs such as hairdresser, coach, chef, and physiotherapist are very dodgy to shift to another country altogether.

3

We bring to you the following tips about the choices you make, your skills at hand, and your networks:

Don’t be a fool to just walk into the future with a blindfold. The more you know what to expect, the better it will be for you to meet the challenges and capitalize on your options. Make sure you are well-updated with everything

1

You need to become a master. Do not ever sprawl all your talents thinly across all areas. As they say ‘jack of all trades, master of none.’ This will in turn mean that you are striving with millions of people around the world who are somewhat familiar with something that you know. You actually need to master a skill or talent, which can be eventually be developed with some actual depth. Take out your time and effort to polish your talents and skills.

4

Be courageous enough to make the hard choices. An easy way shouldn’t always be the only way in your life. You will need to make the following tough choices: • You need to make such a career that allows you to work longer. For instance, your career should at least last till your late 60’s or early 70’s. Do not take an early retirement. • Otherwise what you can do is prepare yourself just like the way Chinese people do. The Chinese save roughly 40% of their actual income. If you continue to do so, then you will have saved a considerable amount of your income in store for you throughout your entire working life. • This is the most important one. You must keep in mind your ways to reduce your consumption and try to live a simpler life. • Doesn’t matter what kind of difficult choice you make. No matter what, you will have to make at least one of the above mentioned choices.

5

You must consider becoming a producer rather than simply being a consumer. The most important thing you need to know is about this old deal at work: ‘I work hard to simply earn more money so that I can buy whatever stuff that makes me happy.’ This saying is quickly becoming old-fashioned. With the changing times, you will also have to work in a meaningful manner. Soon, doing some significant work will quickly become a priority. Even though all these things are important, nothing can compensate for fair pay. So, you need to think really hard and consider sharing great experiences instead of just building your work life around consumption.

have spent years in fascination with how the Zuckerbergs and Musks of the world developed a whole new world for us with their ventures.

Don’t know about you, but moreover, I have also spent a sufficient amount of time wondering what else interests and tempts these brainiacs enough to catch their attention (and money spending power).

And if being a Billionaire/Millionaire wasn’t enough, leading world entrepreneurs decided they could do more by sending out their money to do the passive earning in the form of investments. With that idea in mind,

I tracked down investments made major entrepreneurs of the world and attempted figuring which direction their brains run in.

Not many have the stomach to work as much as Elon Musk does and that is evidently seen from the number of companies he actively contributes to. However, in addition to owning and managing rocket manufacturing, driverless car manufacturing and underground tunnel developing companies, Elon Musk also finds time to invest in many other ventures and perhaps be an active part, too. Musk has heavily invested in SolarCity which is USA’s largest installer of solar panels for household uses. In addition, he is an investor in the online questionand-answer site Mahalo.com,

online payment company Stripe and Neurovigil which develops products that can read brain signals. Musk is mentally invested in the idea of Hyperloop, the high speed travel system concept and might translate it into reality, soon. Despite his fear of AI, he has invested in quite a number of companies with Vicarious being one of them. He’s an investor in DeepMind Technologies and a stake owner in Surrey Satellite Technology. The Paypal co-founder has been an investor in Everdream Corporation in the past.

diFFERENCE BETWEEN

the DaRK web & the DeeP web

DeeP web he web is a much bigger place than you can even imagine. We use portals like Google, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Amazon, and sites like these on a daily basis. But, do you know there is a dark side of web lurking beyond these often used websites? The Dark Web and the Deep Web is a very shady place, to be honest. You can access these kinds using Tor, but the question is how and also do you even want to visit the Dark or the Deep web? We are giving you a quick tour of the Dark Web and the Deep Web which will help you decide on your own while explaining the difference between the two.

DaRK web

WhAt IS the dArk WeB?

The Dark Web refers to a collection of websites which can’t be found through traditional search engines or browsers. It exists on an encrypted network. These websites hide their identity using the Tor encryption tool. You might be familiar with Tor which is famous for the ability to hide your identity and activity. Tor is also used if you want to spoof your location. With the help of Tor, you can even show a different country from where you’re actually located. This is like using a VPN service. When you run a website through Tor it has more or less the same effect. In fact, it multiplies the effect. For visiting a site on the Dark Web which uses Tor encryption, all you need to do is to use ‘Tor’. The end user’s IP address bounces through various layers of encryption for appearing at another IP address on the Tor network, and the same applies to the website. So, basically, there are different layers of magnitude and much more secrecy than the already secret act of using Tor for visiting any website on the open web. This means, anyone can visit or surf the Dark Web but it is extremely difficult to know who is on these sites. Also, it is dangerous because if you’re not a pro and you make a mistake, your identity might get revealed.

WhAt IS the dArk WeB uSed For?

The first thing you should know is that not all the Dark Web sites use Tor. Some of the websites use similar kind of services like I2P. However, the visitor has to use the same encryption tool for knowing where they can find the site and things like typing in the URL to visit the site. An example of the Dark Web site is the Silk Road which was or maybe still is a website which is used to buy and sell drugs and also more scary things.

However, as I mentioned before, the Dark Web also has some legitimate uses. Users who live in closed societies can use the Dark Web for communicating with the outside world. Now, as the government is intruding our web space, you might feel it is sometimes sensible to do the personal communication on the Dark Web. Back in March 2015, the UK government rolled out a dedicated cybercrime unit for tackling the Dark Web. It’s main motive was to particularly focus on cracking down on child pornography and serious crime rings. In fact, the UK intelligence outfit GCHQ and the National Crime Agency (NCA) are creating together the Joint Operations Cell (JOC).

WhAt IS the deeP WeB?

People often confuse between the Dark Web and the Deep Web, but both are actually very different from each other. The Deep Web consists of all the websites and pages that can’t be found through search engines. We can easily say that the Deep Web includes the Dark Web. However, it also includes pages behind paywalls, all user’s database, registration-required web forums, and webmail pages. There are a lot of pages like this and most of them have no reason of existence. There is a staging version of all the websites which have been blocked from being indexed by search engines so that the stories can be checked before it is set live. This means that for the millions of publicly available web page, there is one more on the Deep Web. In online banking, the password protected bits are on the Deep Web. All of us are aware of how many pages one Gmail account can generate, just imagine the size of the Deep Web.

WhAt IS the dArk Internet?

We’re mentioning the Dark Internet here because people confusingly use this term to describe further types of networks, websites and even databases which are difficult to reach on the internet. The sites can’t be reached on the internet because of the properties containing niche information or any other technical reasons. Also, the reason can be that sometimes only a few people will want it or the data is private. One thing to remember is, while the Dark Web and the Deep Web are mostly used for referring to dangerous and explicit secret online words, the Dark Internet is a boring place which is used by scientists for storing raw data for research.

hoW to AcceSS the dArk WeB

As we already mentioned, it is not a very difficult thing to do. All you need to do is simply install and use ‘Tor’. Let’s understand the installation of Tor step by step: • Go to www.torproject.org • Download the Tor Browser Bundle – this has all the required tools • Run the downloaded file • Choose an extraction location • Open the folder • Click Start Tor Browser

To be noTeD:

We have no idea what you’re intending to do on the Dark Web. But, just to be on the safer side, it has been recommended to place a tape over your laptop’s webcam. This is for preventing prying eyes that might be watching you. One more option is a tinfoil hat. People generally don’t know where and what to look on the Dark Web. Don’t expect us to tell you that as well. We leave you right here, to your own devices and explorations. We can just wish you good luck and safe surfing. However, we do want to warn you before you take any further step. Once you enter into the Dark Web, you will be accessing sites which the tabloids refer. This also suggests that you’ll just be a click away from sites who sell guns, drugs and trust me even worse things. Sites like Reddit and various Wikis offer a list of links that can be surfed on the Dark Web. Browse to http://thehiddenwiki.org/, which offers a list to access some of the very bad places. There’s no harm in taking a quick look by all means, but please don’t take this as an endorsement from us. We are definitely not endorsing it! The Dark Web sites go down from time to time, because they are so dark in nature. If you are looking forward to a good customer service, staying out of the dark is the only option you have!

Voila! You’re all set to use Tor now! Furthermore, the Vidalia Control Panel will be handling the randomized network setup automatically. Also, when Tor is ready, the browser will open; just close it again for disconnecting from the network.

WArnIng:

This article is intended as a guide to what is the Dark Web and the Deep Web explaining the difference between the two. It is by no means an endorsement or encouragement for readers to get into any immoral or illegal behavior.

hybrid smartwatch incorporates a handful of smart features from the regular smartwatches and that makes it a bit more capable than other ‘dumb’ watches. The Diesel On Time Hybrid smartwatch thus allows you to experience the magic of a smartwatch while being as close to being traditional as it can. The watch is priced at `16,795 onwards.

what’s new?

The watch needs to be paired with the Diesel On app and connected via Bluetooth in order to be used. The app is user-friendly and lets you configure notifications- be it sleep and activity tracking, receiving calls/message alerts, alarms or play music. The watch dial is equipped with buttons on the side- the one on top is the quick toggle for alerts while the button at the bottom is the trigger button for phone functions. By configuring them as per requirements, you can receive filtered notifications, receive alerts on the wrist, take photos and play music. A major plus is the fact that the watch runs on normal coin-size batteries, and will go on for months at a stretch despite regular use and functionality. You can set the time with the help of the app and also set the time for a second time zone the same way. Moreover, the watch automatically adjusts time zones when you travel.

how Does it look anD Feel?

This hybrid timepiece is chunky with a round gunmetal case 58mm in diameter and 13mm in thickness, and refined metal and classic leather strap. The big lugs and a solid build highlight the raw and rebellious appeal that Diesel is known for. Amidst all positives, there are certain points that don’t quite hit the bull’s eye- step tracking is fairly basic and not completely accurate, while sleep tracking is also sometimes inaccurate. The industrial chunkiness of the watch can make it slightly uncomfortable to wear to bed if you wish to track your sleep. However, all in all, the watch is a great buy for those wanting the smartwatch experience but wishing to ditch the quintessential smartwatch dial face. 112 I

to stay

Safe Online

w

ith the increasing malware, scams and hacks, the Online Portal is getting a dangerous place to survive safely. We are going to tell you few super tricks for reducing the exposure to all these threats. Check out the safety measures you need to stay safe online:

Thoughts by Harsha Prerna

01 1. unIque And comPLex PASSWordS This is no new information, but very few people actually follow this. Creating a unique and strong password for at least some of your critical accounts is definitely one of the best ways to keep your data safe and secure. In the age of corporate hacks, where a breach of database reveals thousands of user passwords, this trick really comes handy. If by chance, you use your password again, the hacker takes the leak data from one attack and uses it for other account’s login. The best advice I would give you to use a password manager for helping you store and creating stronger passwords for all the accounts. Along with that, don’t forget to check if your account offers multi-factor authentication. This will make sure that multiple information pieces would be required for the identity verification. When you log into the account, a verification password will be sent to your phone and you have to enter that code, along with the paraphrase and password.

02 2. SAFe SurFInG & ShoPPInG While shopping online or making online payments, always make sure that the address starts with ‘https’. Not just that, it should have a padlock icon in the URL field. This makes sure that it can’t be intercepted by others and makes the website secure. Furthermore, don’t forget to check the spelling or bad grammar in the web address. They could be a copy of the original website.

03 3. ShAre SeLectIveLY Internet makes you share a lot of personal data these days. But, be very cautious about what and where you’re sharing your personal stuff. I am particularly referring to every individual’s identity information. The details like identity make it easier for hackers to impersonate you or even guess passwords.

04 4. StAY uP to dAte Always keep all your software updated to have the latest security patches. You just have to turn on the automatic updates and also make sure if the security software is all set for running regular scans.

05 5. keeP A check on the LAteSt ScAmS Web is full of threats and hackers which you should always keep a check on. Recently, ransomware was in the rise. In ransomware, the hacker threatens for locking you out from all of your files until and unless you agree to pay a ransom. So, just stay informed and safe.

06 6. BooStInG the netWork SecurItY When your logins are safe, make sure the connections are also secure. You obviously use a router which is password protected that encrypts data. But, while travelling or roaming around, you might feel tempted to use the free Wi-Fi. However, it’s not a bad thing, but

the public Wi-Fi is mostly unsecured. This makes a hacker’s job relatively easier to access your personal data. The solution to this is investing in a Virtual Private Network (VPN). A VPN is basically a piece of software which helps in creating secure connection on the web and can give you safe connection anywhere.

07 7. uSInG A FIreWALL Firewall is an electronic barrier which helps in blocking unauthorized access for your devices including comprehensive security software. I would suggest, even if you have a secure network, you should still be using a firewall. It will make sure; all the devices are safe and secured which includes IoT devices like webcam and thermostats. The Internet of Things doesn’t come equipped with security a measure which is vulnerable as it can give access to the entire network.

08 8. ALWAYS cLIck SmArt After you’ve put all your tech measures intact, make sure that you don’t carelessly click on something and invite danger. A lot of online threats nowadays are based on social engineering and phishing. This in turn makes people get tricked into revealing sensitive personal information by fraudsters. Online quizzes, spam emails, free calls, and more things like that are tactics for enticing people to click on risky and dangerous links or submitting your personal information. Be wary of these fraud offers that are too good to be true and don’t reveal your data to any random person whatsoever.

09 9.StAY cAutIouS WhILe vISItInG AnY SIte Always think twice before clicking any random site on the internet. What you do online, what you share and which sites you visit tell a lot about you. You can use comprehensive security software and keep backing up your data on a regular basis.

10 10. moBILe ProtectIon Not only laptops, but the mobile devices can also be just as vulnerable to online threats. Mobile devices are more prone to risks through risky apps and links sent on the text. Be very careful when you click on any link, and also while responding to any stranger. I would suggest you to download apps only from the official app stores after checking reviews. Furthermore, please enable security software on your mobile just like you do for other devices.

a

n average person using a computer along with an Internet connection can get access to a hell lot of information. Yet, there exists an entire world, which is unseen by your daily web browser.

Those hidden areas of the Internet are known as the Dark Web. Still it is not difficult to access the tools you can use to get to the deep web. Nowadays, more and more people want to use the Web secretly by signing in. All the ‘House of Cards’ fans may be able to recall the Deep Web used into the plot of one of the seasons. The character named Lucas, who is a newspaper editor by profession, was trying to find a hacker. And he gets a little crash course from one of his reporters as follows: About ninety-six percent of the Internet cannot be accessed through standard search engines. Although the majority of it is useless, this is the place where you go if you want to find anything of everything: Bitcoin laundry, narcotics, child porn, and hackers for hire ... Leading researchers believe that the show got it almost right. However, they should have shown a clear difference between what’s called the Deep Web and what the Darknet sites are. Simply put, the Deep Web is anything that is not accessible through the standard, commercial search engines.

Clearly, the dark web is all about being anonymous. In the end, anyone may be able to visit a dark web site, but it can be quite a task to figure out by whom such sites are hosted or from where they are hosted. Moreover, the dark web also houses several hacking groups and botnet operations. And they are universally linked with malicious attacks, spam, and fraudulent actions. And do not forget that various things on the deep net can disturb your mind. Surfing such web content falls directly under illegal activities. If you want to surf the dark web, then you should take your obscurity and security very critically. Do not fool yourself by thinking the Internet Service Providers and Law Enforcement are not trying to keep an eye on those who are trying to access the dark web. Always keep in mind that your deep web activities are tracked by the government agencies; don’t think you are fooling the whole world.

the internet is not all that Dark

In spite of the reputation the Dark Web holds, many people believe that there’s a lot more other stuff going on there apart from all the criminal activities taking place.

Then comes the Darknet, which is a specific part of the deep web where you can function in complete secrecy. People can access websites that sell drugs without being tracked. People can also get a hold of weapons, and they can also hire assassins!

The dark net also comprises of journalists, military, law enforcement, plus the normal people. The type of people you want to bump into majorly depends on what you want human rights activists, to do there.

Researchers also believe that the Darknet has another major purpose that usually doesn’t get highlighted in the news stories: the darknet helps the political discordant that wish to elude government censors.

TOR is like a jewel for all the Chinese dissidents who do not have access to social media websites like Twitter. Not to mention, TOR became a precious program during the revolutionary Arab Spring.

accessing the hiDDen internet

The darkest layer of the deep web is called the dark web. This place is believed to have maximum amount of criminal content. Obviously, you cannot find the dark web related content through regular search engines. Such matter can only be accessed after you install particular software on your computer such as TOR browser, I2P, Freenet, Subgraph OS, Tails OS, and others. These browsers will provide you a specialized encryption, thus preventing the transmission of IP address, which will in turn mask the user location or identity.

The usage of TOR skyrocketed in bare minimum time. For instance, in Iran, the usage of TOR went from 7,000 users in 2010 to a whopping 40,000 users in just the next couple years. In Syria, the number of people using TOR grew from 600 to 15,000 in just two years’ time. TOR has been able to host some charitable events. The executive director of Tor is working with the victims of domestic abuse, as they need to correspond without being tracked by their victimizers.

two separate seNsors Such kind of cameras produce a single image by using two sensors. This is further composed by the color image that captures the image. Then, the black and white image captures another bit. The same image captured by two different sensors have better light and more detailed colors. When you combine the shots, you will get an amazing result. The devices having separate sensors include Huawei P9 and the Honor 8.

3d cameras 3D cameras have been existing for quite some time now. They can snap 3D images, like how the Honor 6 Plus

Over here, the wide angle will let you take a photo, which is either more open or closed. It is not easy to modify the angle. The LG G5 lets us take photos with various different focal lengths. Cameras with different angles allow you to perform two different types of photos, like the portrait or landscape mode. The iPhone 7 does the same by generating a single photo, which lets you use the zoom or even alter the angle of the photograph. The South Korean tech giant, Samsung, has a lot to say with its Galaxy S8. The Qualcomm has worked actively on the camera module, which uses a solution that was used in the Huawei P9. The solution aims to rally the photo on the basis of its brightness and the depth of color. These are the things that you actually look for in a professional photographer.

cameras with diFFereNt depth-oF-Field You will find two cameras here. The second camera over here will capture a second shot, which will allow you to change the depth of field of your snap. Thus, this will eventually change the point of focus. This isn’t a bad option as such, but it isn’t exactly interesting either. The ZTE Axon cameras makes use of this function.

coNclusioN It is interesting to have cameras with different angles and an optical zoom. In conclusion, dual-camera phones consolidate the process.

in short, they can easily snap two photos at the same time for better clarity.

YOUR ANDROID UNLOCK PATTERN IS WAY TOO EASY TO GUESS!

STOP USING IT! NOW!

128 I

I NOV 17

O

f late, studies from all around the world and well-known universities have exposed that it is super easy to figure out any person’s unlock pattern on the device. And this can be done just by peeking over the user’s shoulder, which is popularly known as “shoulder surfing”, while they are unlocking their precious handset. A study was conducted over two thousand subjects, who were recruited to watch over-theshoulder videos of pattern and PIN unlocking. Then, these subjects were asked to attempt to reproduce each of the unlocking techniques. It was finally proved that attackers were easily able to enter another person’s phone after just observing the unlock pattern once. In 64.2 percent of cases, the attackers could easily unlock the victim’s device using the unlock pattern. PINs weren’t exactly infallible, yet they were safer than a pattern. Statistically speaking, on a single observation, only 10.8 percent of people were able to lead to a successful attack via unlocking the mobile’s pin. The researchers examined unlock patterns in the OnePlus One and the Nexus 5. The study found out that smaller phones with longer unlock patterns were apparently less disposed to this over-the-shoulder inspection. Just sometime earlier, researchers have also been able to find that the hackers are capable of using some exceedingly effective computer vision software that can easily seize your lock-screen pattern. Furthermore, researchers have also found that a pattern code can be easily figured out from the smudges on screens. 68 percent of the time, an attacker can figure out your lock from the blots visible on the screen.

Coming to the point: it is much easier for an attacker to peek over your shoulder and surf a pattern than surfing a PIN number.

warnings, security protocols, and data getting that are forced out of the companies that are unable to figure out how to keep the users’ data safe.

Apart from this, another largescale study was conducted, which involved showing participants the videos of mobile users entering in their PINs and unlock patterns. Then, the subjects were asked to act as attackers by simply reproducing what they’d earlier seen on the screen. Without any surprises, researchers found out that longer (more than 4 nodes) PINs are quite difficult to shoulder surf in the first go. Just about 10% of the subject who took one look at the video of a 6-node PIN got it right in one go. This went up to around one in four ratio with several viewings of the unchanged video. Now, compared to this, the Android patterns, which made use of 6 nodes, felt like a walk on cake for the attackers. The success rate of their attack was 64% and that too only by watching the video once. The success rate rose up to 80% when subjects were asked to view the video multiple times. The study also proved that simply disabling Android’s “feedback lines,” which are the lines that visually trace the pattern the moment you swipe your finger, reduce the success rate of the attack by 35% for viewing the video once, and 52% for viewing the video several times. These numbers are pretty high, but at least, this is a small reward to all those who just cannot dislike unlocking their mobile patterns.

What’s the solution? So finally, the best approach to protect your mobile is to use the longest PIN that your mobile allows. You must also use the shortest lock-out time that you can handle. The major studies conducted around this subject showcase just how susceptible PINs are, and especially, how vulnerable patterns are to this lowest form of non-technical hacking. Your final lesson here is that if you are using a lock pattern, then you should switch to a minimum six-character PIN. The least you can do is turn off the pattern feedback lines. This may not seem so convenient, yet it beats peeking over your shoulder every time you unlock your device.

Let’s be logical, having patterns to unlock phones is at least better than having no protection at all. Any which ways, users are simply exhausted by just rolling over and playing dead. The users have grown desensitized to all the security

o matter how against we are regarding the use of technology, honestly, none of us can live without the Internet. Since Internet has become such an intricate part of our lives, what’s the most important thing in your house now? If your most valued jewel isn’t a Wi-Fi router, then it is time for you to join all of us in this fast-paced 21st century.

diSTANCE YoUR RoUTER FRoM ThESE dEviCES Another major thing you need to take care of is that the router shouldn’t be close to any heavy electronics. Heavy electronics include a microwave, oven, refrigerator, or TV. This creates an issue because each electronic component has its personal frequency. This frequency may interfere with the Wi-Fi signals, causing fluctuation.

The first thing that anyone does after waking up is right away check the phone, along with checking the phone's connectivity to their home Wi-Fi signal. Sadly to this day, a lot of us go through the problem of poor Wi-Fi connectivity. This can get super annoying at times. You don’t have to worry; we’ve got some amazing tips to increase your Wi-Fi speed.

KEEp YoUR RoUTER iN ThE opEN, UNoBSTRUCTEd Wi-Fi frequency flows through the house in the form of waves. Now, these waves get obstructed between the walls and other elements in the home. So, you will have to make sure that your Wi-Fi’s router doesn’t have much stuff around it. The more open it’s surrounding is, the more freely the waves would flow across the entire home, delivering an uninterrupted flow. The best way to get the perfect placement is to simply make sure that the router is in your direct line of sight. If you can easily see the router, it’ll have a seamless connection.

FiRST, TEST YoUR Wi-Fi RoUTER'S FACiLiTY To MAKE SURE YoU'RE GETTiNG ThE BEST SiGNAL Whenever you change the position of your Wi-Fi router, you should make use of your smartphone to check the kind of signal strength your router provides. In addition, you can make use of an app called Speed Analyzer app, which you can download from Google Play Store (for Android), and check how well your router throws its signal. This is a simple test that you can perform whenever you change the position of your house’s Wi-Fi router. ALWAYS UpdATE YoUR Wi-Fi’S FiRMWARE A router’s firmware acts like its brain, actually. This firmware functions as elementary software, which permits the whole device to operate smoothly. Just as what all modern technologies are doing, the router manufacturers are in a constant haste to tweak out new updates to their products every now and then. These updates solely intend to add better speed and signal performance, along with repairing the previous security flaws. Today, majority of modern routers will allow you to update the firmware from within the admin portal itself. If you’re don’t know whether such a thing is even possible, or if you are somewhat unsure as to how to do it, then you must take a look at the router’s manual. If no such instructions are mentioned in there, then feel free to contact your ISP (that is, if you’re using an ISP-provided router).

pLACE YoUR RoUTER AT A hiGh poiNT Also, router’s antennas are specifically designed to lob its signals upwards. Placing the router at a decent height will result in a smooth connection. Hence, an ideal area to place you router is placing it high on a wall. The centre of a home is an ideal spot to place the Wi-Fi. poiNT YoUR RoUTER'S ANTENNAS ToWARdS dEviCES Usually, Wi-Fi routers come with two antennas that can be further adjusted. These antennas broadcast the Wi-Fi signals to interact with any device’s internal receiver. Internally, each device has a different placement of the receiver. Some devices use a vertical alignment. And some devices make use of a horizontal placement. This ordeal hampers your Wi-Fi signal strength that you receive on any device. To strengthen the signal, align one antenna vertically. Then, align the second one horizontally. Like this, each antenna gets a decent 50-50-percent chance to interact with multiple devices. If your router has a single antenna, make sure it is pointing to the direction that maximum users are using.

TIPS & TRICKS TO SAVE YOUR

iPHONE’S BATTERY LIFE

AFTER THE iOS 11 UPDATE

A

lot of people dislike what the latest iOS 11 did to their beloved iPhone’s battery life. In effect, a recent poll showed that 70 percent of users allegedly stated a lower battery life after the Apple’s latest software upgrade. Tech-savvy experts calculated that most of the iPhones would recover from their normal battery life within a few weeks after its mega release. Now, even after your phone tries to pull itself together, there’s a decent possibility that it may never be what it initially used to be. If you are one those persons whose iPhone is lagging battery-wise, then worry not; we bring to a list of tips and tricks that you can use to make sure your cell phone’s battery life lasts for as long time as possible.

First and foremost, you need to figure out what’s draining down your battery. Navigate to Settings > Battery. Over here, you’ll get an overview of how each app is using your battery power. What you need to do is close the apps that are consuming a lot of your battery power even when you’re not using them. You need to especially consider not using them when your phone is low on juice.

1

Disable your background auto-refresh A lot of apps keep on refreshing and updating their content in the background, even when you’re not using them. This ultimately eats up your device’s battery power. In order to stop them from doing this, all you have to do is navigate to Settings > General > Background App Refresh. Then, pin Background App Refresh off.

Use Airplane Mode when there’s no cell coverage. Just in case you’re in an area without any cell service, then your handset is spending a lot of power in searching for a decent signal. If you are sure you won’t be getting any signal back, then just swipe up the menu from the bottom and open your Control Center. Next, toggle the Airplane Mode button shown on the screen.

3

Disable “Push” on your email accounts. You have two ways where you can set your accounts to go and check for new emails. Your accounts can either “Push” (check and download your emails in real time), or your accounts can “Fetch” (check and download your emails every 15 minutes). Your aiding tool here is “Fetch,” as it uses less battery of your power because it does not notify the server that often. To turn on “Fetch” services, go to Settings > Accounts and Passwords > Fetch New Data and select “Fetch.” Do this for each account. If you wish to save every bit of your battery, you may select “Manual” to check your emails by yourself.

4

5

Never use data when you are using Wi-Fi. Apart from being expensive to use, cellular data also requires more battery power to access than a Wi-Fi network. We all are well-versed with how to turn on WiFi. But in case you don’t, just swipe upwards and tap on the Wi-Fi icon located at the top-left box of your Control Center.

You need to disable your location services There are certain apps that constantly track your location. They do so even when you’re not using them. This in turn consumes your battery life. So, to disable your location services, go to Settings > Privacy > Location Services. Next, select the “While Using” option for each and every app.

Keep autobrightness on. If your phone is running out of battery very quickly, then there’s a good chance that your screen is brighter than it should to be. Auto-brightness will eventually darken your screen as the day starts to set in. Navigate to Settings > General > Accessibility > Display Accommodations. Then, pin “Auto-Brightness” to ‘On’.

6

If you are charging your phone on computer, make sure it is on. Make sure your computer is on when you have connected your phone to charge it. Obviously, if your computer is asleep or powered off, your cell’s battery won’t charge much. This may instead result in your battery draining down.

8

7

Use Low Power Mode This Low Power Mode will help you when your battery reaches at 20 percent or below. What it does is, it suspends the background app refresh and the automatic downloads. You will be able to turn on the Low Power Mode by navigating to Settings > Battery.

9

Fix your auto-lock. Your device will consume battery whenever the screen is turned up. This is applicable even when you’re not using your handset. In order to decrease the amount of time it spends doing this, you will have to set your phone to auto-lock as often as you can bear. To fix your auto-lock, you will have to go navigate to Settings > Display & Brightness > Auto-Lock.

partners say they’re heading versus what the app dot notifies. The last thing that you need to do if you’re in any sort of relationship, be it long-distance, long-term or newly-met relationship, is going, ‘is she is at her family reunion or is she at some other dude’s house.’ You can’t always tell such things on the map.
