Courtney Edmonds

Assistant General Counsel, National Security Leidos Courtney Edmonds is an Assistant General Counsel (National Security) at Leidos, Inc., and has been involved in professional activities relating to federal procurement law for close to 20 years. He decided to start his legal career after he fell short of his goal to be known as the best DJ in Washington, DC. While in private practice, Mr. Edmonds was an associate in the government contracts practice groups of Sidley Austin, Fried Frank, and McKenna Long & Aldridge. As an associate, he provided advice and assistance relating to procurement law, bid protests, identifying and mitigating organizational conflicts of interest, dispute avoidance and resolution, M&A, battlefield contracting, and public/private partnerships.

Jana Taylor

Associate General Counsel Radio One, Inc. Jana L. Taylor is grateful that her career allows her to indulge her passions for media and law. As associate general counsel for Radio One Inc., she handles legal matters in a field that focuses on entertaining and educating people, which affords her opportunities to help others. Taylor, who always enjoyed public speaking and helping others, initially found the idea of becoming a broadcast legal analyst appealing. “Court TV and attorneys like Star Jones were becoming very popular, and I saw that as an opportunity to blend both of my passions,” she says. In the Honors Program at Ohio State University, which she attended with a Carl Rowan Project Excellence Scholarship, Taylor started as a political science major but soon switched to broadcast journalism.

Mark Smolik

Vice President, General Counsel & Secretary, Chief Compliance Officer DHL Supply Chain Americas Mark joined DHL in 2009. He leads the company’s legal, commercial contracts management, compliance, and economic development teams, which includes responsibility for supporting the company’s Williams Lea TAG operations. Mark also serves as Global Chair of the company’s Supply Chain Legal Services Practice Group. The company employs 48,000 associates throughout the Americas and provides third party logistics, supply chain management, and contract packaging services to many of the world’s largest companies. The company also provides general management, professional backoffice support and creative marketing services through its Williams Lea TAG operations. Jeffrey Gee Chin

Filmmaker, Board Member of Little Tokyo Historical Society

Jeffrey Gee Chin grew up in Marin County. His mission is to share the untold stories of immigrant pioneers who came to the United States in the early 20th Century. In 2012, he completed his first narrative short film Lil Tokyo Reporter (2012) which stars Academy Award-Winner Chris Tashima as Civil Rights Leader Sei Fujii. The film has won over 21 awards and screened with the U.S. State Department in Seoul, Guangzhou, and Beijing. Jeffrey edited an Emmy-Nominated SFGovTv episode and completed a feature film adaptation of James Franco’s Actors Anonymous (2017) as a 2nd-Unit Director and Visual Effects Supervisor. Currently, Jeffrey is developing several long-form productions that will be announced shortly.

Stacia Jones, Esq.

Vice President, Associate General Counsel and Chief Diversity & Inclusion Officer Abercrombie & Fitch Stacia is an experienced labor and employment litigator, advisor and manager. She worked eight years as outside counsel to a number of large companies in a variety of industries, including food, retail, manufacturing, and health and social services. He has been called a “Transformational leader” by Earl “Butch” Graves, Jr., publisher of Black Enterprise magazine. Mr. Brown has over two and a half decades of experience; he currently is a Supervisory, Contracting Officer for the District of Columbia, and prior to that he was a small business counselor at the Howard University Small Business Development Center. Mr. Brown served five years as the Executive Director at the Center for Minority Business Development. Leslie Richards-Yellen

President - National Association of Women Lawyers Hogan Lovells, Director of Inclusion – Americas Leslie Richards-Yellen is Hogan & Lovells’ Director of Inclusion – Americas. She previously served as Hinshaw & Culbertson’s Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer, in addition to her public finance practice. Ms. Richards-Yellen has over 30 years of experience as in-house counsel and in private practice. Previously, Ms. Richards-Yellen was Associate General Counsel with The Vanguard Group, where she provided legal services and analysis for the Fixed Income Group. Ms. Richards-Yellen was a member of the National Association of Bond Lawyers’ Steering Committee. Karen Wishart

Vichal Kumar

President, South Asian Bar Association Managing Attorney, Civil Defense Practice - Neighborhood Defender Service of Harlem Vichal Kumar joined the NDS family as the Managing Attorney for the Civil Defense Practice in March 2015. As Managing Attorney, Vichal supervises the practice consisting of 13 other attorneys and advocates, representing clients in essential civil matters including: immigration; civil asset forfeiture; eviction prevention; employment defense; public benefits; and health care access. Jim Coleman

President & CEO Prince George’s County Economic Development Corporation Prior to joining the Prince George’s County Economic Development Corporation, Jim Coleman served as Executive Director for Westchester County, NY Industrial Development Agency and Local Development Corporation since being appointed in April 2014. In this position, Coleman was Westchester County’s premier business advocate and deal maker. Within one year of his appointment, Coleman infused nearly $1 billion in financing and tax incentives into the market, enabling Westchester’s Industrial Development Agency and Local Development Corporation to carry out their strategic missions and to create over 4,700 jobs for Westchester’s residents. Coleman’s successes included closing a $100 million deal within 30 days to enable Pace University to build two new dormitories and to renovate several other facilities, making Pace more attractive and competitive in attracting the best and brightest students to Westchester. Coleman also boosted Westchester’s hospital infrastructure by pumping over $250 million in tax exempt bond financing.

Founder & CEO FHG Media Enterprises / Minority Counselor TV Jo Saint-George, Founder of Minority Counselor TV, has been practicing law for over 16 years and was the first African-American woman in Arizona to become a non-equity “Of Counsel” partner at a large national law firm before leaving the practice due to health issues. Attorney Saint-George also had the unique experience of serving as a product liability, medical mal-practice and commercial litigation trial lawyer for the first half of her career and then leveraging her trial skills to serve as a complex commercial real estate development and acquisition attorney for the last half of her career. As a trial and transactional attorney (which she accomplished simultaneously for a few years), Attorney Saint-George served as out-side counsel for Fortune 100 companies and start-ups having landed many key corporate clients as part of her robust book of business.

Professionally speaking, Jim is a lawyer, but currently focuses his professional passion on serving as the CEO of new legal startup, QualMet. QualMet’s mission is to collaboratively transform the legal service delivery model to deliver greater value to both in-house and outside counsel. Prior to rejoining Frost Brown Todd where he was a lawyer 14 years ago, Jim ran R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company in Puerto Rico for three years.

Robert Raben Founder & CEO The Raben Group

Robert Raben is the founder and president of the Washington, D.C.-based lobbying and consulting firm The Raben Group, and was Assistant Attorney General at the Department of Justice under former President Bill Clinton. In addition to having a seat on the boards of several non-profit organizations, Raben is known as a bipartisan player for progressive change in Washington after being named a top lobbyist by Washington Life magazine, The Hill, and Washingtonian magazine. Raben started his career on Capitol Hill as counsel for Congressman Barney Frank. He served in this capacity for seven years, advising him on civil rights policy and Judiciary committee issues. His committee work for Rep. Frank eventually led him to his next role as Democratic counsel for the House Judiciary Committee on the Subcommittee on Courts, the Internet, and Intellectual Property, and for the Subcommittee on the Constitution. In conjunction with his service on the Hill, Raben taught as an adjunct professor at the Georgetown University Law Center.
